Yanis Varoufakis & Slavoj Zizek | Indigo Festival 2021
Переглядів 76 тис.3 роки тому
Yanis Varoufakis is a top economist who was at the forefront of international media attention as Minister of Finance in the Syriza government in Greece. Today, he leads the left-wing pan-European political movement DIEM. The conversation with Varoufakis, led by Slavoj Žižek, will be far from a polite exchange of opinions by two like minded colleagues. It will address the issues faced by today’s...

from an episode of The Progressive Internationalist: fb.watch/3F9PSQ2A1A/ No radical transformation of the world is possible without radicality of love. But, with the Covid-19 pandemic and its ill-named social-distancing dictum, we find ourselves trying to build our social worlds anew amidst an accelerating digitisation of life. Big Tech is colonising - or even pre-programming - desire. The pop...
Zizek on Laibach, fascism, overidentification and ideology

Excerpts from Laibach: A Film from Slovenia - Occupied Europe NATO Tour (watch full movie here: archive.org/details/2013ThePervertsGuideToIdeology/1993 - A Film From Slovenia.avi ) Ft.
To me Laibach are the musical equivalent of ah horror movie
The conceit is to seduce the audience with symbols and motifs of politics that horrify , the problem arises when the audience thins out as their seduction and disgust can no longer co -exist , leaving only members of the audience who are worryingly comfortable with wot they see and hear , worse still , perhaps even unquestioning of wot they see and hear , at that point every body in the room has lost
In other wurds Laibach are just looking for attention
I think a big part of laibacs image is a german or germanised slovenia and slovenians, which was scary for the socialist yugoslavia and partizans. Trbovlje where the band started is very influenced by german culture as is most of slovenia. Most of there songs are in german and their name is literally the germinised word for ljubljana. This is rarely mentioned by anyone outside of slovenia.
I am under the impression that Laibach's method of exposing ideologies via overidentification is no longer possible as authoritarian ideologies have, just like the rest of capitalist societies, regressed from neurosis into perversion. Autocrats and would-be dictators from Orbán to Putin and Trump no longer repress their true intentions behind ideological veneers but openly parade them like fetishes. There is nothing left that could be exposed via overidentification because there is no longer a repressed unconscious. We are in the era of disavowal.
My favorite comedian
God bless you Slavoj Zizek.
yannis looks and sounds like he avoided saying what he means his whole life. the man is a pro
We must needs change our evaluation of our productive capacities.
...It's like an exercise in (and of) cultural memory...
That's a whole lot of words to say nothing at all. I don't think my problem is with whether or not Laibach are fascists as much as fascists believe that Laibach are fascists.
Laibach has demonstrated that fascism and communism are from one bird its two wings 🤷🏻♂️
This guy is so full of shit lately. I'm here for Laibach - and not this communist bullshitter
Resistance is futile....
It's strange how Zizek puts into words the obvious, and somehow struggles with it, because the obvious is so... untangible, strange, weird. Easy to understand, intuitively, but hard to explain. Points to Zizek for trying :)
« Inconsistent bric-à-brac » 😂😂😂❤
"Eccentric core" ! Me like ... However as long as keep pushing the idea of love along the line of degrees and levels these paradigms evermore will disturb the very act of loving. Loving in all it's spectrality. The concept always will.put limits to an operation which needs no description. The deeds PRRECISELY stand and fall for and by themselves, I claim. SORRY, I talk too much😊

They are losing me a bit with the discussion on China... it's Van who exactly?
Is there any chance of a political economy that the many can understand, not just the few? (Green Fire, UK) 🌈🦉 PS: This conversation is immensely illuminating. Particularly interesting on China...
PPS: Xi Dzjin Ping IS a Confucian, Yanis. Balanced, dialectical, one step at a time...
Please complete 5 time transection then video upload

Zizek is so fucking stupid, and still acts like wisdom shines out his ass. Laibach is too good for the likes of him, I suppose.
he just makes it hard to see trough the bluffing so people idolize him

Love does seem to be born out of our social-relations as an obstacle. While sexuality, on the other hand, as something that needs to be emancipated, does not at all seem correct, under the present social-relations.
Quantum mechanics are a treat
my two favorite contemporary intellectuals on the same stage... now that's a treat! Thanks Indigo festival!!
A similar observation can be made of Verhoeven's Starship Troopers (the sort of film that a fascist society would make), which is why it is brilliant satire, too. Laibach, however, turned the ambiguity up to 11
This is by far the greatest compilation of clips on Laibach to be found on the web!
Mr Varoufakis,always interesting 🤔
Wow
You don't get it.
Well; inflation has taken a bit of a jump of late.....
Love them both but Varoufakis' point about the supposed lack of Imperialism and Colonialism of China falls moot when he mentioned just sentences prior their atrocities in Tibet and Turkestan which certainly amounts to Imperialism, ethnic cleansing and an extremely thorough colonial project unseen since the American manifest destiny.
It's so weird to hear a public finance official speak in Marxist terminology.
Thanks a lot for mirroring this.
1:41:35 Zizek is so annoyed by Varoufakis's sudden bout of political correctness lol
It's funny to hear a greek man talk about how we italians used to always try and screw the germans at their own game, too bad that time has gone
Zizek is turning more and more into a marxist Donald Duck
There are so many reasons I love this, what a joy to watch

When verofakis says he has an ideological opposition to giving a shit about why the PM didn't go ahead with his plan I think he means that because this happened his plans were always untenable. The PM and syriza were never going to be able to buck all the pressure put on them, which is why he's looking for another avenue and not just thinking "well of our PM had more of a backbone it would have worked out"
When Yanis mentions that there's a 600 page book about his plan right at the beginning, which book is he referring to?
I think "adults in the room" but I am not sure
Adults in the room. I recommend it to read it. 🌎 .
@01:18:12 that didn't age well
“What has Capitalism ever done for us ?” …………. Fill in as appropriate!
With billions and billions and trillions and trillions everything will happen faster and faster
why is the audience constantly laughing, morons
It’s true that China’s influence in Africa isn’t as horrible as Europe’s. That doesn’t mean it‘s “just business”. There aren’t Chinese troops killing Zulus, but the economic relations (even if they are “voluntary” now) are still pretty similar to the imperial ones Walter Rodney wrote about - exploitation of African labour and natural resources in exchange for Chinese infrastructure, with the lion’s share of the profits ending up in foreign cities. Indeed, the Europeans also tried to claim that they gave Africans schools, hospitals and railroads as credits for robbing them. Nothing’s really changed.
Always nice to see a fellow Belgian spreading the good word of leftism :D
belgian?
Cameraad might also be Dutch?
Antifa are the only fascists I know
When Yanis said "North" in Macedonia all his talk about being a Marxist, Left-winger, Subversive, Communist just evaporates like a drop in the sand of hypocrisy....think about it Yanis, just think about it...Macedonia was forced to change its name by the neo-liberal establishment and right wing populism that you say is the biggest problem in the world today...
