I have a 1983 280ZX, bought 3 years ago. Mine runs 90% but always something else comes up. They are challenging and over 40 years old. Does it have spark? Is fuel following out all the injectors? Taking it to modern shops down the street will not help much, modern mechanics know nothing. They want to plug a car into the computer and let that do the work. Unless you can find a mechanic that's about 70 years old and remembers these cars, you'll just be running around for nothing. Get it to California Datsun or Godzilla Raceworks (I'm assuming you're in CA) bite the bullet and pay them to get it running. 2 years of trying, go to a pro. Sometimes it's the ECU by your left knee, capacitors / flux wear out. I have a guy in Alabama (expert) has rebuilt 2 ecu's for me. I can give you his info if you want.

When I attempted this on my f30, the acrylic would bubble if I let it heat up too much, is there any way to prevent this or does anyone have any advice? F30 is tough because there’s a bad angle on the lights I have to shape the acrylic around.

17 year old trying to be a mechanic. If you took the distributor out or moved it make sure you put it back in the right position . Sounds like when it was trying to start it was to into timing I’ve had that issue with my 300zx z31 Ik urs has a lp mine is a vg but timing goes the same with all cars. If the distributor is off by a tooth will make a big difference. Try replacing the rotor and cap on the distributor if u haven’t. Really sounded like a timing issue. Has gas has spark. Does it have the right amount of fuel pressure? Or a good amount of it. If u were to spray cars cleaner or starter fluid down the intake will you have the same outcome? . Get this fixed man love these cars no a lot of people do the hood opens like my 74 ford courier love the reverse hoods💪🏽

This is my first time seeing any of your videos. I dont know your background or story. But I hope you don't give up just yet. I'm not a mechanic. But I do love cars and have had a couple of projects myself. My advice will be limited but I would like to offer a couple of ideas. 1: You got the timing set back to the proper configuration, it appears. But nothing was mentioned about the distributor. Did your friend set the timing on that as well once he set the rest of the stuff? It's possible that an adjustment needs to be made with that. 2: You mentioned that the car was sitting for a handful of years. Gas can go bad. If it's the same tank from back then you need to syphon out what you can and get some fresh stuff in there 3: Also in regards to it sitting for an extended period. I dunno where you live but no car is safe from creatures who want to make a shelter out of some random compartment in a car. Mice and rats love to chew through wires. If you have an issue with that, that'll be a bit harder to pinpoint. You'll need to follow the various wires and make sure they aren't frayed or chewed through. I understand your frustration and wish you the best! Edit: I glanced through your page and noticed the plates. Now I understand why UA-cam suggested this video to me. I'm from the same place lol. Just shove some green chile in the gas tank and it'll be right as rain :P (jk please don't do that)

from what I can see it looks like the car has an EFI system, (not what im experienced with personally) but maybe try swapping a carb on quickly, something you know that works in case there are any electrical gremlins. Also check if injectors are clogged first. I just found this channel today through the gas tank restoration video (saved it away for future reference lol) and Im super interested in this build now. Im not a youtuber, but maybe during the monologues you could put some mundane background footage behind it, like doing some interior work or cleaning the car cause attention spans are so low now 😭 keep up the content, hope to see the z running someday!

The first thing you need to do is make a list of things to check. 1. clean the injectors, fuel filter in the engine bay, passenger side. 2. check that each one is firing (use a screwdriver to the base of the ear, to the body of each injector). You should hear a click at each one. 3. voltage at the pump and injectors and distributor. 4. fuel VOLUME, pressure and freshness. 5. check the color of the spark in the dark as you crank the engine. Remove one plug at a time, ground it and check the color of the spark when it's dark out. I think blue is the color you want. 6. start checking the sensors. They are based on resistance. 7. throttle position sensor has connections inside, check those 8. Air Flow meter, check the resistance change on that. 9. Your starter is dragging, replace it or rebuild it. The EFI controller is in the drivers left foot side panel. One of mine was all rusted and had bits falling off. You should remove that and clean the connections and check the insides for shorted caps. A can of connection cleaner is a good idea. One thing about a car this old, is that you can remove, test and replace things without worrying too much about wasting money because it's a 40+ year old part that you're replacing. In other words, just keep checking and cleaning every single thing. It's over 40 years old, wires, hoses, belts get worn out.
