Getting Things Done with Matt

Приєднався 15 лис 2015
This channel features work I do on the sawmill, woodworking in the shop and maintenance and home repairs.
A little about myself: I am a Carpenter / Welder / Pile-driver by trade. On the weekends, if I’m not at work, I spend time on the Sawmill, in the Wood-shop, making House Repairs or doing Property Maintenance. I am a husband, a father and a grandfather. I built my house when I was 30 years old, while also working full time. I made the kitchen cabinets, kitchen island, window/door trim, baseboard moldings and bathroom vanity, along with other furniture pieces, from the Red Oak trees I cut down when I cleared the property. When I built the house my original workshop was in the basement until I could get the garage built. Needless to say it was a work in progress for a few years after we moved in lol. Growing my UA-cam channel keeps me motivated to get my projects done at the end of a long work week and knowing my Granddaughters are watching “Poppy” on TV at night keeps me going!

Log cleanup with Kioti Tractor
Today I’m doing property cleanup with the Kioti Tractor and Stihl Chainsaw, removing logs from trees taken down in our side yard. Most of the trees were rotted or diseased and near utility lines so we had a tree company take them down and leave the logs. We will be replanting landscaping trees in this area, like green giants, dogwood, Japanese red maple and a river birch. Have a great day and thanks for watching!

Переглядів 226Місяць тому
This video is the condensed version with alternate viewing angle, of the previous “Cutting posts from firewood log” video. For those who prefer videos with less talking and more sawing! I am cutting up an old Red Oak that’s really more of a Firewood log than a sawmill log but should be good enough to get some posts from it. Thanks for watching and have a great day! #sawmill #wood

Today I am sawing up an old Red Oak that’s really more of a Firewood log than a sawmill log but should be good enough to get some posts from it. This is the longer version video. I will put out a shorter version of the video too that just shows a quick milling of the log. Thanks for watching and have a great day! #woodlandmills #sawmill #portablesawmill

Big foot strikes again
Mine's still in primer, haven't decided on paint yet. Been 29 yrs. now.
Is yours a 8 foot stepside 4 x 4 as well?
@@GTDwithMatt yes, it is. I've owned three '76's. This one is my plow truck.
Nice!
@@GTDwithMattit was a municipal reinforced plow truck for a small town on the Grand Mesa in Co.Was my daily for 10 yrs. I rebuilt the 390 that it came with and replaced rear fenders. Just rebuilt front dif axles and drive lines. Have parts as this is my 3rd '76 h.b. It's Halloween and snowing in N.W. Mt. She's ready for service.
That’s cool. Mine was a one owner. He used it for camping. He had a bed camper in it. This one had a 360 2 barrel I put in a rebuilt 390 4 barrel.
i got one that size or even bigger on my property
That is awesome. Such a big tree.
@@GTDwithMattyeah i love big trees that are very cool
Great video, it will help me doing the clutch on my 130MAX. By the way, in your video at 3:22, in the background behind you on your left there is a hunter in a camouflage suit, get's up and leave's !!!!
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching and nice catch at 3:22 😉!
Big Foot?
Nice Catch 😉. Thanks for watching!
Just put off pipping over back stops
I do use piping over the backstops as shown in several of my videos, but on the big logs it doesn’t help much and creates other issues. The wheels make it much smoother flipping these big logs. Thanks for watching!
Actually, the Bald Cyprus likes upland soil and a deep solum. They are however fire intolerant and tend to only survive in the water.
Thank you for the info. We planted it about 2 years ago where it stays fairly wet most of the year, seems to be doing well so far. Thank you for watching!
From other videos I have watched from others, that pinging that you hear is a sign that your idle is set too high, which will wear your clutch prematurely (and which might be why you are having to replace it in this video. Simply adjust your idle down so that it is not engaging (or pinging) and your clutch will last longer. Loved the Sasquatch!
Thanks for the tips! I really appreciate it.
The berries appear to be 'Jack in the Pulpit'
Thank you for letting me know. Have a great day!
nice bit of oak in that 3" slab you just put on the firewood piles son. cut it up and save it it will come in for something Les England
It was an old firewood log that was very punky on the outside. I had to cut deep to reach the good wood. The outside cuts were not in good enough condition to be used for anything else. Thanks for Watching.
Great video, thanks for sharing. Probably should have hydraulics for that big a log.
It would definitely make things quicker and easier, but I enjoy the process. Thanks for watching!
just to prove that an old log can still be hard, i won't comment on your berries.
😂
That water shows what polyurethane will look like beautiful ❤💪💰🧐🙏
Thank you!
@@GTDwithMatt yes sir you welcome it’s hard to beat oak
sasquatch nice surprise as well lol
Nice Catch! Thanks for watching!
Bla black bla just the fucking log
Good video. I like your work area. Dave
Thank you have a great day
How’s the mood mizer blades
It’s a good blade I like the way it cuts. Thanks for watching.
@@GTDwithMatt did you buy it from woodland mills
I think I got these Wood-Mizer blades at Cooks Saw.
Excellent work. How strong is the railing once the top is in place? Any worries about a kid running through?
The top railing is made of white oak very strong, and no worries about kids running through it.
I am just so bothered that it doesn’t look like you have any head gear on to cover your eyes
That grain is unreal lol
Wow, that's pretty!
Thank you! Cheers!
That certainly is a great big log for a hobby saw mill ?
This sawmill will cut a 30 inch diameter 16’ long log, but it isn’t easy. That was one of the bigger logs I had in my pile.
What an advertisement for that Milwaukee chain saw 👍! Good job Matt!
Thanks 👍
😮💨😮💨😮💨
Millin just straight millin
Great Job Matt❤❤❤
Thank you!
Good job
Thanks
How much do you think that wood would’ve cost if you sourced it?
Red Oak not kiln dried rough saw probably about $1.30 a board Foot
On high it looked you opened a door way to another dimension.
😂 Yeah, it’s really bright! Thanks for watching
Looks like you have a good place to go "Squatching"! Oh and the slabs look good too!
😂 we call it “sawsquatch”. Good catch and thank you!
Great Job Matt!!❤
Thank you!!
Is it better to paint or stain the deck?
I personally prefer stain, a penetrating oil type stain. I used Ready Seal for the first time after I built the new deck and I am very happy with it. Everything I tried on my old deck just chipped and peeled.
@@GTDwithMatt thanks
Hello.how many is this machine,
I’ve owned this machine for over three years. At that time I paid $6,800 US dollars
Looks like you could use a carbide blade.
I definitely could’ve used a carbide blade on that log. But I used what I had and those blades were at the end of their life for the sharpening cycle so I used them up on a tree that I knew had some metal in it barely made it.
Why did u cut that 3rd slab so thick u could have gotten at least a nice 5/4 board out of it so now it will be fire wood what a waste of nice oak
That log was on the ground for a while, so all the sapwood on the edges was really punky so I had to cut deep into log to get to the Good wood
Yeah fuck no
Lmao 🤣
@@GTDwithMatt can never go wrong with pineapple though. :)
Yeah, the Pineapple balances out the saltiness of the Anchovy……but you need to like Anchovies lol.
after i run the slabs through the mill to cut them for firewood i don't have to split them afterward cut them into lengths dump on to the pile of firewood
That’s a great way to stay ahead of the mess and end up with more firewood. Thanks for watching.
whats that passing in the Woods? Looks like a Big Foot? wkoko wakoko wakooo at 10:27. ehehehehe
Good eye! Keep a lookout, it comes around now and then 😉 Thanks for watching.
@@GTDwithMatt Peaceful co existence thus far.. BTW just be extra careful .. GB
Cool truck 😮
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
Saya sangat mengagumi video ini
Thank you, I appreciate it! Thanks for watching.
Beautiful truck I'll take that truck over a new one any day.
Thank you, I agree 👍
Great Job Matt!!
Thank you!
Beautiful wood, Great job !!!!!
Thank you very much!
was concidering buying one of these when they were discontenued.
It’s a nice mower. I like mine a lot.
Sir, how do you like that sawmill? I’m looking hard at getting the exact same one. I like the idea of it being on a trailer. I’m fortunate enough to have a 3200 square foot garage, so I would be able to keep it out of the elements. Thanks for any input.
It is a very nice sawmill for making your own lumber. Woodland mills also has terrific customer service. Have a great day!👍
Get the 136... can always saw small logs on a big mill but no big ones go on a smaller mill
The best pieces for our wedding 😁
Great Job Matt!!
Beautiful work and creativity. ¿Do you sell these works of art? Thank You.
Thank you, I am not selling them. I am giving them to friends on my road.
hi there that stuff adds up fast , best to all john
It definitely does!
