AUTO P O M S DO SOUTH WALES
Although P.O.M.S. Scooter Group are mainly a Classic Lambretta Crew, several of us also own & ride autos, we have my GTV 250ie, GTS's & a RA TG 300. Back in the spring of this year Glyn & Freda with Gisela & me, took our auto vespas on a six night tour of South Wales, looking at the photos & video bits on a wet horrible day I thought I'd chuck a video together recalling our trip. I know it's not on the Lammy but you might enjoy it. Cheers, John.

Переглядів 111Рік тому
While visiting my Son in Australia, his boss invited me to a trip up to North Stradbroke Island on Queenslands Gold Coast, turns out that he has a small plane at a flying club nearby. What a great experience, what an opportunity. I've put a short video of the trip together, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Plymouth Old Mod Squad & friends met up on Sunday for our second rideout after covid restrictions were eased, we rode to Seaton Beach Cafe on the south coast of Cornwall, it was bitterly cold by the sea, so we rode on to Cremell just across the river from Plymouth, taking a coastal route across Whitsands Cliff top & Cawsands Village. It's a beautiful ride through coast & country roads. I took a...
A LAMBRETTA SCOOTER VIDEO OR BITS FROM THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR RANDOMLY STUCK TOGETHER

Another wet day in lockdown, I thought I'd put together a video of just me riding my Lambretta scooter, but I hadn't been riding so I used odd bits from my hours of video taken over the last five or more years. Continuity went right out of the window, the roads don't join up, the sun is all over the place, I'm wearing different gloves & jackets, the paint on the scooter changes, & some time in ...

The weather getting there was awful, very...

On a Friday morning early in January 2020, a few P.O.M.S. rode down to Looe in Cornwall to meet up with another scooter group 'The Waiting For God Boys'. It was the first sunny day for ages so we grabbed the chance of a rideout. I took my Vespa GTV 250ie to give it a run, it's a delight to ride, smooth & quiet. After a lunch of Fish n Chips from The Coddy Shack we rode down into Looe. The lads ...

Plymouth Old Mod Squad made our annual long weekend trip to the Isle of Wight Scooter Rally 2019 with our Lambretta scooters. Thanks Mark, it was a nice ride, Lamy's up on the lift again for a while, stator, CDi or something not right & having the legshields painted.
Disaster at Clapton Sands:--- This incident happened on 28th April, 1944 when nine German E”boats broke our defences and attacked eight American landing craft in Lyme Bay on their 33 mile “D” Day training journey for a landing on Slapton Sands. Two landing craft were sunk and another limped back into Dartmouth harbour.
Worse than that, they changed the timing of the bombardment but didn't communicate that to the landing party who were storming the beach when the naval guns opened up! the whole disaster was covered up for years. There's a lot of info about it, just search OPERATION TIGER.
Muito top
Takes me back to my childhood we would spend many days of our holiday at whitsand bay sure there was a field used as a car park at the top and we would walk down a man made pathway down the cliff side to a lovely beach that had a little shop at one end . Great video as always
Cheers Mark, yes it's a lovely place for sure, I rode the same run again on Tuesday with a couple of good friends, we took our Vespa's, my GTV 250ie & Glyn's GTS 300 with the wives. we had a big fryup at the Boatyard Cafe in Millbrook, on to the pub in Cremell for a cold one, & then up over Whitsands Cliff road on the way home. The little shop is still there & there's a nice cafe at the top of the cliff path. Glad your enjoying the vids. John.
Great video that brought back some childhood memories
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Do you have a video of your scooter
used to park in that car park and make a brew when we used to go to Cornwall on our holidays many many moons ago . Great videos
Thanks for your comments, Chequered Flag is a really nice café now, much used by bikers.
wow this takes me back to my child hood summer holidays on the farm in Quethiock days spent in Looe Whitsand Bay Millendreth and Cawsand used to love going over the Torpoint ferry happy memories great video
Thanks Mark, yes I'm lucky to live here, so many great places to ride to with some good mates too.
great video
excellent video really good
I like your screen, it’s one of the nicest Ive seen does it help much with wind?
Hello, it's a VE supplied screen with a Halfords chrome trim added, I binned the awful clamp brackets & mounted it with under slung mounts with longer head set bolts, it's a much tidier look, as for protection, well just a little bit really, I just like the look of a fly screen on a Mod Scooter.
@@johnwilcox8883 yes back in 1970 I had a tall screen which was pretty good at keeping the wind and rain off but rattled like hell lol
Betterdays anthology double cd 48 tracks and comprehensive booklet including live recordings from the quay club in 1964 out for sale on cherry red\ grapefruit label in 2 weeks
Thanks Mike, (I'm guessing your the Mike Weston member of the band) I'll be outside Really Good Records when it opens, & like 'Backlash' I'll have the first one out of the box. I heard recently that we've lost Bob, very sad, he was a real talent & that Keyboard & Harmonica sound is still in my heart today. Like it says in the Blues Brothers, you had a sound that'd turn goats piss into gasoline! Hope your well & thanks for the music.
@@johnwilcox8883 hi yep I'm a betterday the Anthology is easily orded on the internet as cherry 🍒 red \grapefruit is a large independent record label and I'm not sure that really good records will stock it out 18th March
@@johnwilcox8883 I got a live recordings from the quay club set in August 1964 terrible quality spent some time searching for some engineering genius who could make it at least listenable found one! Its gritty rough and raw and a lot missing from the actual live performance due to the inadequacy of the simple mike and basic tape recorder but its the best that could be done with the latest modern equipment the Anthology is called HUSH YOUR MOUTH
@@michaelweston3177 Thanks Mike, I'll be getting one, be good to hear your driving Bass again, you were the engine room after all. Such great memories, I was still at school when I first went down the Quay Club, The Betterdays were the sound of my youth.
Got it.
Ha Ha, who's riding the rust bucket. Barn find looks the business.
Ha. that'd be Greme Lake's scoot from Cornwall Scooter Centre, don't let it's looks fool you, it has one hell of a motor, mechanically perfect, rides many miles on it. I think it's called Mr. Rusty.
Just watched your video John, you have a really nice looking scooter there...I am currently keeping my eyes open for a restored Li model, I have been keen on Lambrettas from when I used to attend a local Cafe in Bolton named the ' Can Can' back in 69' where all the scooter (mod) lads that I knew used to meet up and it was great, Li 150's Tv's and most notably the SX200's were had by a few of the lads I knew and when they were all lined up outside it was quite impressive as one or two were in outstanding condition.
Got to have a cream tea the Cornish way.
Plymouth is where the UK Column news team are based. Nice to see such distinctive classic scoots on a run.
didnt go isle of wight bought a sxts1225 instead green and white like yours mick midland scooter club
So good to c a video, hope you've got the lammy sorted by now
Got it on the dyno in Bridgewater last week, he got it as good as he could but it runs out of puff on every hill unless I rev the nuts off it, I think it's the new BGM V4 pipe Iv'e fitted, it's strangling the life out of the kit .
jam on top northwest england lol nice video
It was Alan who took the stills of us boarding not Kevin, sorry Al. Oh! & I've spelt 'Engines' wrong too, that's after proof reading two or three times. bone.
Ive seen a few engines since 1985 but none quit as slick, attention to detail and whaaaat...FACTORY LOOKING? I mean c,mon lads this looks like it came from the assembly line down at the old factory in milan!!! Hey mate did you work at the factory back in the day yea? ssssh we wont tell now will we boys?
Nice vid , i love to explore iow on my scooter , the needles was a trek tho lol
Makes me wanna get out on mine..GP150/175 Taffy.
beautiful ride and well worked video
Thanks, coming from you that's praise indeed.
Another good video-just a thought but are Vespa's nor welcome in your club? I didn't see any.
It's true we favour Lambrettas but we do have a few nice Vespas in the group, theres a PX lookalike LML Star 125 with a 185 kit, very fast & light, a beautiful GS 160 all original & a real looker, I have a GTV 250ie, we have two GTS 300's, one RA 300 (like a series 2) all of the autos are back up bikes & all the owners have one or more classics too. Cheers, John.
Enjoyed the ride out John , nice to hear the engines instead of music 👍
Hi John, not seen a new video in a while, hope you are all ok and doing well looking forward to seeing more videos very soon
Nice Video thank you for sharing it and I Loved the Jazz music what a brilliant weekend, Hopefully I will be attending myself in 2021 with own Lammy see you soon guys stay safe.
What a shame there's some plastic pigs in this video! What happened to our 2t rallies 🛵💨💨💨💨💨💨
great band
Nice one as always
Cheers, it's a great rideout, trouble is when I get there I could sit outside the cafe with a drink & settle in for the day, it's a beautiful spot.
Cool vid. 😁👍🍀
Lose the bolt on faff would be a nice scoot 👍
Well, I was a Mod in the 60's, I'm riding now pretty much what I was riding in 1966, I like the light Mod style scooter, I don't like christmas tree over the top scoots or race paint jobs on road scoots I also dislike murals & engraving on scoots but I wouldn't criticise any of the above or have the front to think it's ok to do so ! each to their own eh, if you like it, ride it, I like Mod & that'll do fer me.
Great vid again John👏👏👍
Great to see a new scooter video again after al this time. Nice one!
great
cool vid, what spec is your engine?
Glad you liked it, the spec varies throughout the video because it made up of odd bits filmed over about five years, it's a 'Bitsa' LI 150 frame, SX 200 panels, Indian GP 200 motor with a Mugello 225 kit, BGM 58/110 crank, MB Big Box V3 pipe, Dellorto PHBH 26mm with Ramair foam filter. in some scenes it has a 30mm OKO PWK carb & a Scoot RS expansion pipe, some times I was running with an Agusto 6000 ignition retarder so it varies. Sorry I can't be more specific. John.
0.52 King willy? Silly Billy!
Ah. a snippet of conversation picked up as I passed by, yes, King Billy or Royal William, but good enough for giving someone directions to a cafe'.
👍
Great...keep riding the legendary scoot.I m from India and a Lambretta owner...when riding, always miss these no traffic roads like yr video. Wats your location?
I'm in Cornwall UK close to the Devon border.
Thanks John I really enjoying watching your videos especially of your local area makes me want to get out on my scooter. I'm really missing riding at the moment can't wait for the better weather and the ignition to be sorted and then ill be out and about.........
Great job John, really enjoyable. We met at RAF Harrowbeer once and I live just a few miles from you so watching your films and guessing where they are is fun for me. It also saves me buying a camera lol! Keep up the good work.
First. Do people still do that?.

Thanks for your help John appreciate it, looking forward to watching more new videos.
Hi John, Its a 125 dauglas if u have an email I can send you a photo.
Not much knowledge of the Douglas Vespa from our lot, best they've come up with is Beedspeed or SIP in Germany.
Hi John, I've been watching your videos and appreciate the effort you have put in. Reading some of your comments about the fact you rebuilt your scooter, last year I was very lucky my wife bought me a 1985 125 vespa and I absolutely love riding it, the problem is I've only gone and lost the ignition key (I know I'm a right plonker) I was wondering if you have any advise on what would be the best way to replace the barrel? Thanks keep the videos coming they are brilliant. Nigel
Glad you like the vids Nigel, I'll ask the lads that run Vespas if they know where/how to sort your key problem, what model is it? John.
