Harley Benton ST-20 Standard Series Stratocaster
Переглядів 515Місяць тому
Fiddling with this cheap Strat. When I got it, it was in a factory setup. That means no setup, horribly sharp fret ends, action sky high, no intonation done, just a depressing state if you try to play these without doing the whole works for it. After a few hours, it plays nicely. A good budget guitar, certainly a nice mod platform.

This is one job I wanted to do, but did not have inspiration for it until now. A cheap way to make a guitar feel and sound different. I had this HSS pickguard laying around, so why not? Those original single coils were quite lame anyway.

Too bad it's not available in left-handed.
@@Shadow-Kevin-f9y true!
I will take the TE-20HH I hope not to be disappointed
@@Shadow-Kevin-f9y I had one and it was a fun guitar. Still have the pickups waiting to be put on to some future project.
Thanks for the info, I plan to replace the electronics and maybe the mechanics, it's especially the full black side that interests me
@@Shadow-Kevin-f9y I painted the pickguard black also, looked cool.
I just saw a beat up white one at a pawn shop with hard case for $80!
Go get it! It is a good base for some modding. First you have to get rid of the bridge, it is meant to be intonated with wound g string and that should be plain if you want to bend the g string. Otherwise you can let the guitar be as it is.
Hola!!! Donde te puedo contactar! Tengo la misma guitarra 80/90s. Gracias por el video
Excelente! es una buena guitarra. Mi página de UA-cam tiene mi dirección de correo electrónico.
Great video. I wouldn’t know where to start.
Thanks! Probably it would be best to play the guitar first, that will tell you a whole lot of what to do next...
@ I’ll try that and watch your other videos too
Why are the frets green and filthy.and no gold hardware.i just don't see deluxe.i thought deluxe means the best u can do.is that it.tones of work is all I see.junk no thanks
This was used guitar. Deluxe is the series that Thomann chose to name it. It is what it is...
Deluxe.where?puffed up word
In the name of the series!
Harley Benton cannot make a Tele, only Fender can. Even HB does not call it a Tele, so your title is click bait.
I think TE kind of hints to certain direction... Click bait removed.
It's a really nice looking telecaster you have there, don't let trolls put you down
@@craigchandler5153 thanks my friend! Looks and plays good for sure.
Lovely guitar. Had one and more or less gave it away to auction shop in Ruotsi because I already had to many guitars....common problem I guess. 😅 Chunky D-neck but cool and very good sounding.
Agree, it´s a nice guitar. With this setup with the Artec Hot Rail in the bridge, the middle position is some what quieter than bridge or neck. I´m going to play it live with my "Power" trio tomorrow in our practise session. That reveals the potential of using this guitar at gigs in the future.
I can see myself getting one of these soon, great video!!!!
@@robertparker3580 thanks, it sure is a fun guitar!
I play my bumblebee daily. One thing about mine, the volume pot sucks. Don’t know about yours. It should be a non linear pot so you can better roll on the volume. The guitars I get into the electronics I swap out the pots. Last time I used a Jim Dunlop Super pot audio taper. Not sure if they make the push pull but if you like the Van Halen progressive volume switch. Hate the ramp on a linear pot. You did a good job on your video
Thank you! I have to test the pot some more to say how it works. I know what you mean by the ramp...not good.
It needs black markings like a real bumblebee.

Ja je imam,odlican 335 gitar!
@@dgaborov great! It is a good guitar.
Why did you shim the neck?
Because I didn´t want to lower the bridge saddles so that the screws would be carving the skin of my palm. I tend to rest my palm on the bridge when I´m playing. The saddle screws are quite sharp on these cheap bridges.
This was brilliant but it'd be better if you slowed down and explained via text what you were doing in more detail.

Can you fit an edge zero trem for replacement?
I don't know. If you carefully measure the post holes, do they line up with Edge and possibly re-drill larger post holes you could...
what size drill bit did you use?
@@dingo2083 it was 10mm, the largest I had. The post is about 11mm if I remember correctly. I think you should drill the holes a little bit under 11mm anyway to ensure tight fit.
@@jukka9333 I just finished the job ended up using a 7/16th bit and the inserts still felt snug. My Ibanez wasnt as lucky as yours to have a good cavity for it though I had to do some extra trimming to widen the cavity a bit.
@@dingo2083ok, you had the job done anyway?
@@jukka9333 yeah just traced the trem where it was interfering with the cavity. Then used a Dremel and sanded to the lines I traced.
@@dingo2083 Great, it is coming together bit by bit!
I have just gotten the same bass in red...it has been decades, but it is coming back.....just want to kick back and play some jazz and this is a great bass for that.
@@TheWolfsnack great! Good luck for your new adventures with the red one!
Yea sloppy playing 😎 sounds awesome! Never had a locking trem, thinking of picking up an rg370dx. I assume there may be issues with it. Thanks for the video. Can you give me an idea of what to look for when I get the guitar, as far as parts that are worn that create the issues in the stock trems. TIA
The trems on these are usually cheaper ones. But that does not mean there should be issues with them. I just bought a Pegasus, entry level Ibanez, but that guitar stays in tune really well. Played a gig last week with it, was raining heavily, we were outside, obviously not in direct rain but during the two hours of playing I didn't have to tune it once. You really can't tell how the trem keeps tune before it is properly set up. Usually knife edges and posts suffer after time. It is a good practise to lube all moving parts with sewing machine oli regularly.
YES!
Nice Floyd Rose you put on there been thinking about doing that to a guitar that I got as well...
@@patrickshannon4516 it was a test, I was wondering if you could build a "proper" Kramer out of that, and the answer was "yes".
@@jukka9333 got a Jackson Rhodes guitar that has a string though body and basic tail piece and I'm thinking about putting a chrome Floyd on it just had to watch a couple videos about how to do it I've done it before already once but not on a Jackson Rhodes yet.
@@patrickshannon4516 Nice guitar! Go for it and good luck!
Could tell the bottom part of the body is a little bit wider than the real one looks decent thoug and bye the way the real one has EMG active pickups and active pickups sre better than passive lower noise.

Perfect!!!! Im doing the same upgrade with a edge zero 2 (soo weak bridge) i have soo many problems i hope the gotoh makes my guitar more stable
Great! Gotoh is my number one choice for its reasonable price and very high quality. It will make your life easier if you are careful about the post drilling process and a proper setup. Good luck!
No bro don't, making a clearance for the bridge might seem easy but once the wood cracks, you're done for. Also Edge Zero 2 is one of the most stable bridges on the market.
Aren't the blades on the Edge zero 2 replaceable? And if not, just find an authorized ibanez dealer and buy a replacement for all the parts you need.
Like ten years ago I bought a used Ibanez RBM 10 with a Lo-TRS and I wanted a original floyd. I tried to do it myself but when I realized that I had to change the studs I looked for professional help (because is a rare guitar hard to find). Time after this happened, I realized he didn't do a good job, the 6th string at the 22 fret was at the side edge of the fretboard. I still have it and am looking for a real professional to do it.
Sorry to hear that someone has screwed the positioning of the trem. But it is fixable by a pro luthier. Hope that job didn´t cost you too much. the Ibanez RBM 10 is quite a rare piece of artwork, never seen one for sale here in Finland.
How heavy is it?🙏🏼🎸🤘🏼🎸
Thomann says that the weight on these varies depending on the wood density... this was really heavy, I'd say over 4kg...
@@jukka9333 Thanks Jukka! That's a bit heavy for my taste, i think i'll pass. My preference is 3.2 kgs, a bit under or over(max. 3.7kgs) and i'm good! Have a nice evening, love from Switzerland, Josh🎸🤘🏼🎸
@@gearViewmirror I prefer lighter guitars too. Thanks and have a nice evening also!
Nice one! Anything EVH is great by me!
Same here. This is maybe number four or five of these striped guitar mods I have done. Fun stuff, I have managed to keep zero...
@@jukka9333 I’ve got a 1983 Ernie Ball Musicman EVH Signature in Amber. I wonder what that would look like in stripes!?

I have had one of these for years, but never did a live show with it. I might do now, though I prefer 10’s gauges.
I like Ibanez guitars, although I don´t have any on my rack at the moment. Why haven´t you used your RG live?
@@jukka9333 I have always played original Kramers from the 80’s, and it is hard to change a lifetime addiction to them! For me, the Stagemasters and the Barettas are simply the best. The Ibbo has always been hanging around the house, but I might take out next gig. Black body, Maple neck. Looks cool! Good luck Jukka. Keep on rockin’!
@@lesbois53 ok, understand cause I love Kramers too! Yep, let's keep on rockin.

Your tone is my favorite out of all the reviews!!!!!
Thanks! There is a lot of potential in this guitar.
Looks awesome. These videos always make me wanna order something new. Terveiset Rovaniemeltä 😎
I know the feeling! Espoossa jo täysi kesä, kuinka Rovaniemellä?
You might as well order a b-stock cause that's what they send out most of the time
That's right...i ordered a cs 500bk new...and it arrived b-stock, full of scratches and a chip. If i were to send it back it would doubled the price.
That's odd! Do to the tilt back head angle, these guitars usually don't need a string retainer.
I like to see people using a hand drill vs a press. It shows that if you're careful enough, you don't need a drill press. Great work.
Yes, got to be very careful though. Thanks for your comment!
what is the right block height?
This was 40mm, a little too tall for this guitar but it played ok.
I’ve heard 36mm or 33mm
Bro!!! What is this song it's fucked up I love it ! 0:05
It is just some random backround music, don't remember the song title, sorry!
Boomers just love hanging a vaguely native american feathers from their guitar for some reason. I just don't get it. I play open mics with regularity, and everyone over 50 has one. Even on mic stands. A trend I will not be following. But hey, do you. I'm just trying to understand how and why the trend started. It looks like a child's craft from summer camp on the best of days. It's truly baffling.
You do as you see best. Where I live, nobody has these feathers hanging from guitars, let alone mic stands. I´m over 50 so guess I´ll keep the habit...😂
Dude what an awesome video!!
Thank you!
It's very surprising that Thomann didn't act on the reason for the return. Not only does it look unprofessional, it's also a source of repeated returns.
Hey, usually all returns are being repaired. It seems like this might've slipped, or wasn't even the actual reason for the return and nobody noticed it. After all our return rate is very low and we're really proud of that.
@@HarleyBentonOfficial It's true that it looks like an intermittent breakdown, which is a real pain to repair, because you have to spend a lot of time before you can diagnose the fault. Your store has an after-sales service with a reputation for listening to customers, so don't change a thing! 👍
@@jaunianise4172 Yea, took some time to find out where the problem was, but now it works just fine. Another reason for returning this guitar could have been the weight. This is really heavy...
Old Harley Benton?
Could be, similar headstock shape.
The way the trem was installed, it could only dive bomb? Thanks for the video.
It had a little bit wiggle room, but not recessed.
