It’s very hard to describe being in Blue Knights and hearing this from a mile away and trying to rehearse properly all summer.

I’d be willing to say that this is the best fielding of Adagio for Strings ever - including marching band as well. Just absolutely stunning.

Thank you for posting this. 2000 was my favorite year for DCI hands down. Scv, Cavs, devils, cadets. I loved those 4 shows so much and about wore those vhs tapes out lol. Special year that was🤧

LOVE this! SCV rocks. Always has. Always will. But.....the guard work and choreography for this piece makes no sense! Like S. Barber on crack! lol

@andy9ajc9 haha, that is where we stayed! oh, I'm way too old to still be marching, but I did march SCV cyms 01,02, and now I'm the cymbal tech at Legends

i know this was in Rome, NY, but do you remember where the rehearsal site was, I think we stayed at that same place this past summer

it takes genius to take something called adagio for STRINGS and do it with brass... I don't wanna admit to damp eyes... but yeah... I heard them do that in one of there shows that year. It was incredible then and it's so nice to hear it again... the chord progressions at 2 minutes in... jeez...

Let's put it this way; they played a similar enough arrangement to have to pay the SCV arranger (I think it was Key Poulan) or he could've sued them.

you didn't play that arrangement unless you marched only brass.

Love it, love it, love it! I just wished that the conductor wouldn't keep bending his knees, it threw him off that year. I aged out in '01.

this show on top of 97.98.99 cemented me marching in 01. One of the best (and hardest!) Vanguard shows ever in my book.

I love, for me at least, that you don't even realize this amazingly slow crescendo and push into triple forte... and you don't even realize how darn loud it is until the climatic cut off... and even through a not so great quality UA-cam video the chord still rings in your ears after the cut off... eerie and spine chilling.

this is what made me love drum corps, as well as SCV

I had the privilege of hearing this played right in front of me in 2000 in Texas outside of the Alamo Dome. We (Southwind) played our ballad from that year (Legends of the Falls) for SCV, then SCV played Adagio and Send in the Clowns for us. It was the most amazing thing I have ever heard.

Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings will be played at my funeral. Period. End of story.
