To be honest I'm more impressed by the fact that this guy has SSO Sumrak suit than about the GP-5's features
It's not SSO Sumrak, it's a KZS)
@ProjectSparkPC , oh, sorry. Anyway, this camo pattern is cool as hell. Thanks for correcting me
The camo pattern is called beryozka
@@ProjectSparkPC, yeah, I know. There are two types, as I could spot: the one with white stains and the other with yellow stains
That's right
also gas mask from ww2 ( and all polish produced) was named szm-41m
900 million. Even with masks lost to wear and tear, stolen, sold to communist countries and other losses during it's years of manufacture, that still would leave a metric f-ton of masks for Soviet population to use. Maybe it was part of the plan. To oversaturate the country with masks, so that even after nuclear war there would be masks left. I wonder how many filters were made? A spare and then some? Filters would be used more and would spoil/get clogged, so the numbers might be in multiple billions. Makes you head hurt to think the scale of those numbers.
Yes, the point of oversaturation is exactly that. No matter where the big pizdets catches you, there are probably several masks in your proximity and you still have a higher chance of survival. Every gasmask was supplied with a single filter, not more, not less. A crate has 40 masks, 40 filters, 40 bags, and 40 antifog kits. As far as I know, GP-5 filters could have been supplied separately, but that was pretty uncommon. It was presumed that filters were not to be changed, you used your gasmask with the filter to get to a safer area and then you disposed of it entirely. At least that was the plan.
@@ProjectSparkPC Ah, ok then. So GP-5 would be used more like how FFP-3 masks are used. If that was the plan, it would make sense if there weren't spare filters. But the plan kinda falls apart when you are required to use the mask longer and the filter gets clogged/damaged. Then again you do have more masks in storage. And maybe for those that needed a mask more than a regular citizen, there would be possible supply shipments of spare filters (and spare masks) from civil defence or military chemical protection supply depots? Discarding the whole mask sounds so wasteful, as you could just change the filter. Thats what they teach in the Finnish army. Discard the filter at the decontamination station, wash the mask and issue a new filter. I dunno, am I overthinking the logistics and supply side of an old Soviet gas mask?
The GP-5 was primarily a simple civilian mask to GTFO of the contamination zone, that's it. People who needed to wear the mask for longer periods of time as you said and potentially carry out some tasks in it are the civil defense personnel. And they had access to much more stuff such as CBRN suits, isolating gasmasks like the IP-4, they were prioritized to get better filtering gasmasks, such as the GP-5M when that just appeared and so on. They would also of course have access to spare filters if needed, be it from cannibalizing unused surplus gas masks, which there was always more than people needing them or from actual factory crates with spares. And military gas masks are a whole different story, they never got mixed in with supplies meant for civil defense purposes. Different models, different logistics and different accepting agencies.
Lovely video
i have a real TT33 from 1953 with the original holster and magazine (2). its a shame because i stored it for a while inside its holster. the leather caused the pistol to rust. also the ammo is corrosive and even storing it for a single night after firing cause the whole barrel to rust brown... i guess it is more authentic. lol
Well, just like many older firearms it takes more oil and grease, even for storage. The holster should be thinly greased inside as well. And I hear that modern 7.62x25 ammo is trash in terms of corrosion, so extra steps should be taken to clean it. But it's just what I heard, I am not very knowledgeable on firearms.
@@ProjectSparkPC my ammo is from Czechoslovakia from 1956~ i think. it is original ammo for PPSH machine gun i think. it is surplus from a military wooden crate. now i keep the pistol alone in a box it there is nothing to keep moisture around it. i also use motor oil to protect it. Thank you for your videos! i wish there were hundreds of them to watch! maybe a new video idea: survival kits? like for planes and such? water purification or cookers?
Well, I am planning to do a modern RUSFOR sustainment gear video and perhaps something similar but with old school Soviet gear after that. Glad you enjoy our content!
Bruh how are you wearing the filter without getting asbestosis
This is pretty much a FAQ by this point. We have a full video on the topic, you can check it out.
Наконец-то кто-то глянул ролик Большого П, разжевал и выпустил на английском, чтобы и до ангоговорящих зрил дошло. Молодец
i bought a full GP-5 kit with the bag in the past for 15$ shipped to me. i need to wash it because it has been sitting for 20years now. do you think bleach solution is OK or it will destroy the seals and rubber?
Bleach is not a good idea at all. The face piece should we washed under warm water with a little bit of regular soap and then dried well. After washing you need to apply talc or talc based baby powder to preserve the rubber, as the water will remove talc applied from factory. The filter you can only wipe with wet cloth while it is sealed. And as per the bag, you can wash it in a washing machine with other clothing on regular (delicate-ish) settings.
@@ProjectSparkPC Thank you!
Thank you Cheeki Breeki-san.
gp-5 yes
Great video, I love my gP-5 and my danish filter fits it surprisingly good.
I got a gp5 for my cousin for his birthday and now I’m planning to get a black version for myself
What is the movie called that you got the clip of the man yelling "babushka" from?
That is an episode from a Soviet and early Russian kids TV series called "Yeralash"
Project Spark my beloved
Interesting video. Thank you. My sister in law knows how to use the GP5 from school. She was born in the Армянская Советская Социалистическая Республика.
I wonder if there are any in-between masks, there's a GP-5, and a GP-7, but is there a GP-6?
No, there is no GP-6 for some reason. There are GP models 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 21 if I didn't miss anything.
I dont have much surplus however i have a East German pilotka. Produced around summer 1966 in Dresden.
Nice
Lecombine ahh mask How get one pleas

Had a buddy known as the Saladspoon that always turned up to lan-partys wearing a GP-5 mask.
Gp-5 is my favorite gas mask and i cant wait for the discord server to be open for everyone❤️
Soon, comrade, soon!
What a good day it is when you turn on youtube and the first video you see is a Project Spark one from 1 minute ago). I find the black ones are quite a bit rarer for the normal gp-5s, but apperently not for the m versions? Just got a black one cecently, great to see that ny collection is growing along with your channel.) On that note, do you have any idea when the discord server will become public? Thanks already for making a lot of your infomration avaliable for free, of course, and I believe "free to play" users like us will gladly wait for you to release everything in its own time.
What a good day it is when you get a nice comment on your video within 12 minutes of it being up xD I heard about regular GP-5 kits coming with black ShMP masks, but apparently that is a very rare exception. Something like grey rubber GP-4s. As per GP-5Ms, black ShM-66MU masks are the standard. As per the discord question, yes, it will become public as soon as we hit 5000 subscribers. I imagine it will happen pretty soon if this video does as well as the previous GP-5 video.
Managed to snag a polish production version of this, they're an excellent piece of kit!
When's the episode about your backpack mieszok?
