Just found this. Are there more of these episodes online? This is wonderful. I love Antonio. Cheers to the Hasirci family!
is it possible to reach you via email?
Yes, of course. My first name and my last name @ gmail.
I'd call your teaching style - peace-maker. Calm, gentle, protective.
That's very kind. Thank you for the kind words. Learning a new language is an incredibly brave thing to do and language learners put themselves in a vulnerable situation, taking risks and making mistakes. Our job, as I see it, is to provide that safety net to ensure they don't hurt themselves and are excited to have another go.
ANTONIO, thank you for sharing your love of preparing and loving to share food wh other cultures. Your are a good will ambassador to all who view you videos. RIP the world needed n misses this humble man ♥️♥️
Hi Billy , first of all I am non speaker english and I want to take CELTA courses , do I've a chance to be accepted ? , I wish u can replay to my question thnx.
Hey Mira, thank you for the comment. So sorry I'm late in responding. You have every chance. Just be aware that the language requirements to join a course are a high CEFR C1 level (iELTS 7.5) and above. Apply to a centre and they will guide you. Don't be scared. Go for it! :)
Antonio forever
Hi! I liked your lesson. But would you explain in more detail what is "echoing" that you mentioned in your self-evaluaton paper?
Thanks for the kind words, Ramin. Apologies for the delay. 'Echoing' is when the teacher repeats what the learners are saying. It often happens when the teacher is asking for something from the learners. This might be while the teacher is eliciting or conducting feedback on a task. An example would be: Teacher: "Where are you from?" Student: "I'm from Italy" Teacher: "You're from Italy". The teacher talks needlessly here. It would be more appropriate to respond with another question or just show interest. Echoing can be helpful as a technique of error-correction but it's usually more of an unconscious response and unnecessary.

I will miss u Antonio FOREVER
What an absolutely wonderful and passionate man he was. His excitement when watching these dudes cook is so obvious.
thank you for this! It gives me a general idea of what to expect...
Glad it helps :)
The second recipe is based on Greek cuisine
Please tell me what the word in "Greek cuisine" means (Dolmadaki, dolmades) and I'll tell you what it means in Turkish (Dolma). Then we'll let the UA-cam community decide who is correct. You can't hide etymological roots... I'm sure there is an original word in greek for "that which is filled" (an accurate translation of the word Dolma which is used in general Turkish speech, and the main verb is Doldurmak "to fill". Other versions of the verb are "dolmuş"(it has been filled), "dolmak" (to be filled), etc... ) Please show me a usage of "dolmades" in Greek that prooves you didn't just call it the same thing the Turks did. Similarly, there is no such thing as Greek Yoghurt, as "Yoğurt" (Yoghurt) is a Turkish word.... ask any etymologist. (What is truely hilarious here is that the etymogical origins of the word etymology is actually Greek)
@@Paltheus Turkey has influenced cuisines in the Balkans a lot because of Ottoman empire and Greeks just cant accept that they drink Turkish coffe for example so they call it "Greek coffee" but everyone knows that its a Turkish way of brewing a coffee...
It is said that in 335 BC when Alexander marched into the city of Thebes, to a grand welcome by his generals and soldiers, he was taken aback by the platters of stuffed vine leaves. For a kingdom that was suffering from acute shortage of food, the food intrigued him, and he walked into the kitchen. It was here that the Greek warrior discovered the secret to the constant supply: the cooks, with whatever little bits of meats they could find, were cleverly combining it with fresh produce and then wrapping in grape leaves. Impressed, Alexander made it a part of his military food. Many believe that this was how dolma travelled and was adopted by the countries that Alexander conquered.
Billy, I'm a native English speaker (U.S.A.), my new home is in Izmir...how can I get certified to do something like this?
If you want to take the CELTA, have a look at celtadelta.com for a list of schools running the CELTA in your region. If you're in Izmir then you should look at IH Izmir and Izmir Ekonomi University. Good luck with the course :)
Hello Billy, loved your video thank you so much! I'm about to start the CELTA and I was wondering, how much do I need to know about the phonemic chart? is it required that we know how to translate every single word in phonemic? thanks in advance...
You don't need to memorise the phonemic chart to get through the CELTA. You do need to know how to handle it, though. You'll be guided by your tutors and expected to be able to refer to it when necessary. Good luck with the course.
Dear Antonio, we will miss you so much.
Take it easy, Antonio.
I always learn from you :) the best tutor ever :)
Thank you soooo much! I learn too! :)
To be honest with you, it's under level teaching. You didn't use ICQs nor CCQs and you presented the vocabulary without using MPF. You criticized me a lot for not doing so!!!!!!!! Now I know it was racism.
Thanks for the comment, Ibrahim. I'm saddened that you feel this way. The level of the tasks were about right for the level of the learners on this occasion. I know as I was monitoring and observing their performance. You're right that many of the CCQs could have been improved and that perhaps greater depth of clarification could have helped. I'm not convinced ICQs were absolutely necessary with this level of learner with these tasks, however. Meaning (M) was covered by definitions and then some CCQs (though, could have been a little more thorough). Form (F) was covered on the slips of paper which clearly indicated spelling and part of speech. Pronunciation (P) was covered in the drill and also on the slips of paper where stress was indicated on the written form. No teacher's perfect and no lesson is perfect either. I learn so much from every lesson I teach and much more from every lesson I observe. Any feedback I gave you on the course was intended to help you improve. If it was taken as criticism without constructive intent, it's a reflection of my performance as a tutor as it certainly wasn't my intention. I will, as ever, continue to reflect and work on my techniques. Thank you for your feedback. I do, however, take issue with the accusation of racism. Being of mixed-race myself, I find it hard to accept such a comment. If you look at my previous candidates, you'll notice that grading follows a trend and that's one that corresponds directly to the spread of nationalities. There are far more candidates coming from countries whose L1 isn't English. There is a misconception that L1 English speakers have some kind of advantage on the CELTA, this is simply not the case. Please be a little more careful with your choice of words as accusations of this nature can be extremely hurtful and damaging.
most amazing entertaining lesson i`ve ever watched i hope to be like you in the future, but without being overweight :P
Hahaha thank you for the comments. Never say never! :))
That was really good. Thank you for sharing this and all the best with your CELTA career.
Thank you for the kind words :)
Inspirational stuff.
Thanks for the comment. For better or worse, I hope it inspires in some way.
Hi Billy, An amazing video, thanks for sharing it. Currently i'm taking my celta course @IH Izmir. I was wondering if i could use your lesson materials, and i'm also wondering where did you get James Arthur's fake conversation picture, he looks so funny :)
There should be a link in the description. Hope you got on well at IH Izmir!
Hi Billy - thank you for sharing this, I think it is very generous of you. I just wanted to say that I absolutely loved the re-grouping exercise - I have never seen it done using adjectives before and I think it's great. I'm definitely stealing it. Thank you!
Thank you for the kind comments. It didn't quite worked as I'd hoped. Tip: remember the adjectives you've used! :))
I tried to download your Google doc, but apparently it no longer exists.
That's strange. Is it still happening? It seems to work for me.
nice!
Thank you :)
Amazing lesson! Your way of teaching is wonderful! Very encouraging:)
That's very kind! Thank you so much :)
I love Billy... I love Celta... I love International House İzmir ...

What country are you from Mr. Teacher? :)
I'm from England but I've never worked as a teacher there :)
To anyone who was interested in the materials, you can now download the hand-outs, lesson plan, language analysis and self-reflection here: drive.google.com/file/d/0B2k2kOukAkyEODZZWTZJSkV6ZlU Thank you again to everyone for the kind words :)
Can you tell me what was written on the papers for the song? Since I didn't understand what they did after you paired them up after the second listening. Thanks. I assume they were doing fill in the gap? or did you have actual question?
There should be a link to the materials in the description. Basically, there were some multiple choice questions.
Hi Billy, I like your teaching stile. A really good lesson, a really inspiring one. Have you found a way to share the hand-outs? I'll be very happy to see it.
Thank you so much. There should be a link in the description.
Hi Billy. Thank for this. Nice lesson:). Was wandering. The first group finished early- so what can be done for early finishers? in order not to leave them waiting yet not disrupt the lesson plan. I have problems with this quite often, and since am having an observed DELTA lesson, was wandering how can this situation be handled?in yr opinion? and I ve got a question. Did they have the whole song or just a stanza? It was inserting to watch how they reacted when 'fantastic' which was a praise overlapped with the synonym.:)..Thanks
+Dragica Jordanoska Hey Dragica. Thank you so much for your comments. You raised a good point about early finishers. If you noticed, in the video, I used them to support the other groups. By dividing the finished group into human answer keys (assuming you've monitored well and you're confident they have got the right answers), you can encourage some peer-teaching. To answer your other point, they listened to the whole song. Thanks again for the comments :)
+Billy Hasirci thank u:) Looking forward t watching more of yr lessons.
Billy Sevki Hasirci hi billy
Great lesson! I had a quick question. What did they have to match at the 6 minute mark? Vocab and definitions? Please post more lessons, you have an excellent teaching style. I learned a great deal from watching this lesson a few times.
+Freddie Orozco Thanks so much Freddie. That's really kind of you. Yes, they had to match words and definitions/images. I will try to find a way to share the hand-outs so you can see what they were doing. Thanks again :)
Really good lesson. Em entertaining.
+Paul Maguure Thanks Paul :)
As usual ,perfect ,enthusiastic ESL instructor .Billy
+Ashraf Hanafi Very kind of you Ashraf. Hope you're well :)
