Awesome
These 3 guys are nowhere near good enough. Sonnys dad is a horses ass
How many titles did Sonny Pavelchak end up winning in his career?
Great Movie😎
Er war der Beste❤
can't find anything about Sonny online . . . .
Where are they now??
We all had the dream
Bowling and gambling go hand in hand. Not good.If you can't adjust and are just a house bowler then don't waste your time and money.
I bowled with Del Ballard when we were teenagers for about 5 years. At age 15 he was the best bowler in the whole house, I'm talking all leagues and adult bowlers, he had the highest league avg. At 15 I was carrying a 210 league avg and Del was like a 225 avg. Those were good times, I always knew Del was going to do well in the PBA.
Vespi came off as such a jerk
Not as much as sonny's father
Walter Ray looks like Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds in this.
I love every time I come across this movie and Sonny’s father is explaining how they think Walter ray is terrible……I think Walter continued to do just ok. lol!
It was all fun and games until the two handers came to town!
@@BrianGreenwood1352Aren’t there some kids on your lawn you need to go yell at Gramps?
Sonny's father is an a$$.
58:24. Norm Duke smoking. I honestly never knew he did, or did at one time. He doesn't strike me as the smoking type.
Sehr gut und interressant !
God, this documentary cuts so deep. <3
One of my absolute favorite artists. I still play all the albums....again and again. Thank you...from Norway.
I am not much of a bowler myself, but have loved watching this game on TV from my boyhood in the 1950s until now, almost 70 years of it. The early matches, Don Carter, Dick Weber etcetera are still so thrilling to watch on UA-cam. It is the consummate TV sport. All the action is on the TV screen. It's so geometric, so mathematical. I have always loved numbers, that will go on as long as I can see and think. Even duckpin, candlepin and 5-pin bowling are wonderful to watch. When I tell people that bowling is among my favorite sports to watch, I can see they think I'm a bit strange. Well, l'm not alone. I love this game,
It amazed me how his enormous talent could be kept under wraps in the U.S. til I realized, Willy couldn't play by their rules. Their rules suck. They thought we wouldn't notice, but we did and more are discovering him all the time.
I wish Willy had been included in the Rumble documentary, or at least mentioned.
Jump ahead to 54:55. This is why straighter is greater when it comes to spares, as told by Walter Ray Williams Jr himself! If Bob Vespi had stopped hooking at his spares, he could have been more successful in the PBA, as opposed to falling back into Regionals the rest of his career.
Bowling goes to show how flawed and imperfect we humans are. Pros come in with beautiful, precise techniques, and they still find themselves throwing a lot of 9's, and sometimes worse. Even the top pros are not flawless in their single pin spare conversions.
Fact check: in 1994 Vespi and WRWJ did not make the show in Cali. They made the show in Harrisburg. They met in the first round of the stepladder not the finals. And Vespi beat WRWJ, climbed the stepladder and lost to Randy Pedersen. Why did they lie?
That was my question too
Now that I've been recently watching the 1994 season again, I'm beginning to think that most of this is fake. The footage of the pros and Vespi are real, but I think the other two never bowled in the actual competition. They probably filmed a road trip that followed the tour and bowled in the Pro-Am's that comes with most professional tournaments and then arranged footage to make it look like they were actually competing. Too much doesn't make sense. But it was entertaining anyways
@@XenoGuru they definitely bowled on tour. I know one of them and knew him then.
@@XenoGuruTony Rosamilia definitely bowled some actual PBA tournaments. He just missed making one of the TV finals in 1995.
How many titles did Sonny Pavelchak end up winning in his career?
Everyone thinks they are good enough to be a pro because they averaged good on a house shot but reality shows its ugly face when you step out in the big leagues. Lol
Walter Ray Williams Jr rightfully criticized Bob Vespi for being one dimensional. That guy was WAY too dependent on hook for his spare. USBC has said it for years: when it comes to spares, straighter is greater.
I love seeing "house pros" come to try my sports shot league. Always boasting their 210+ average, then they can't break 120 on the patterns we bowl on. There has been only one of them who didn't quit right afterward and came back the next week. Instead of making excuses, he stated: "These patterns have definitely humbled me. I wasn't as good as I thought I was."
Sonny yells at his mother, next scene sitting on the couch next to dad with a black eye.
Mr. Daly: This presentation on Pleasure Beach is well done and especially well written. Many thanks. I grew up on the east side of Bridgeport in the 1960s and visited Pleasure Beach regularly. I have wonderful memories of those days, really, especially of the WICC-sponsored record hops in the ballroom on Friday nights n the summer, the roller coaster, the fun house, and the clacking of the wooden boards of the bridge when cars or buses drove over them .... Thanks again. Jim Hargett WHHS Class of 1964

Watch League of ordinary Gentlemen
A MUCH better film. This film is the epitome of low budget. And it looks like it.
@@pumazpawz To be fair, not every filmmaker has the same funding, and also "League of ordinary Gentlemen" is about the state of the entire Tour and how the top players and PBA management were reacting to the changes in the popularity of the sport. This one is mostly about what it's like for young guys going on tour and getting slapped around when they realize how tough the competition is.
who is THAT at 1:15:35 ?!?!?!?!?!
Prob one of pete webers ex
Jeff Morin ladies and gentlemen!!!
Del Warren happy about his Dockers!!!!
When was this made?
1994
@@irishpogi I just looked up the bowler stats. The fat guy doesn't even register in PBA stats. Bob Vespi had moderate success from 1992-1994, but then he dropped off the face of the bowling world after that.
@@ianandersen265 he limited himself to regional competition after this video was released
Thanks for posting this, it was really interesting. I was really rooting for Tony - seemed like a nice kid. It's also interesting to see the enormously long shadow Walter Ray cast over the PBA at this time, and how dominant he was. The guy was just held in reverential awe and it seemed like he was murdering the field on a weekly basis. I remember him being CONSTANTLY on TV. LOL
Unfortnately, Bob Vespi is the only one of these amateur bowlers who have career stats on the PBA, and he only lasted 3 years. The others are well established pros.
Yes. in case people didn't know, the Tour is TOUGH. lol
I'm not surprised that Tony didn't make it. His body type is not quite the best, and many of the top pros are at least a little muscular. Even Chris Barnes' son Ryan is in great shape.
Thanks for making this available on UA-cam. I had it on VHS back in the day.
Sonny wasn’t listening to his father that’s why he wasn’t successful. He is way too cocky and that’s why he wasn’t be tour material
I feel like sonny was realistic after a few tournaments. He realized holy shit this is not like back home where I average 240. Felt like he got humbled out there
Erik Hill true
To be fair, Sonny's old man was kind of a cocky know-it-all too. But he was right about bowlers needing to have the right mindset to be successful, and the importance of the mental game. If you're already defeated in your own mind, you won't win. "Every battle is won before it is fought".
Sonny is such a turn off. I have bowled many a games with the likes.
sonny never had the makings of a varsity athlete
@57:13
this was interesting. Thanks for posting.
I think it was 2007.L
Larry, what year was this video done? Must have been before 2009 when the carousel was demolished.
That is so sad! :(
Great video, my daughter has taken thousands of photos of this - she's numbered the cottages that were and is fascinated with its history - I just finished a book with Arcadia called "Roton Point" which was an amusement park in Norwalk, CT that closed in 1941. I am sad that now even the remnants of the Pleasure Beach that you show here is now gone, but I'm glad I joined her on one of the explorations there and took photos, too!
