Painting a VW Thing (Avocado Green)
Переглядів 1303 місяці тому
Aloha Friends! I recently got my VW Thing painted at an auto body shop. In this video I've detailed some of the things that will need to be done when you take your VW in to get painted (or if you do it yourself!). Mendo Customs did an incredible job, the car looks brand new! I'm stoked with the end result...I couldn't be happier. Thanks for joining me!

Installing Monstaliner Bed liner on a VW Bus Fiberglass top
Переглядів 555Рік тому
Hello, In this video I share the steps that I took when I applied the Monstaliner bed liner on the roof of my 1974 VW Adventurewagen. This is part one of two, I still need to paint the orange portion of the top. The color tint I used was "Man on the Moon", which matches the cream white of the VW quite well. All these products can be purchased through www.monstaliner.com/ Enjoy!

    Aloha from sunny Arizona! I started rehabbing a '75 beater last year. Used yer vid on Konis and man am I glad I have those. Now I am installing new window seals (after a whole buncha mechanical stuff, but that's another story). My poor channels were much more rusted and I used the fiberglass method to repair her. They are finished and I've installed the rear hatch and passenger side non vent window seals. So glad I came across another one of your videos! My vent glass frames were rusted beyond repair and boy is it a struggle to get all that mess back into one piece! But they are ready for install and this video is greatness! Beauty! Mahalo for the ohana you bring to this community. Thanks for the leg up!

      Thank you so much for the positive feedback! I'm happy to have helped a little bit in your adventure...it makes it all worth it to hear that someone found some useful information in these videos. I appreciate it! Mahalo and best of luck in your restoration project. I agree, those vent windows are a whole other can of worms....I removed one and found one of the pins that it swivels on rusted out, the window was just kinda hanging there (unbeknownst to me!). I ended up buying a used one to replace it with, that happened to have a good re-useable rubber seal already attached.

      Thanks for the positive feedback, I appreciate it! Yes, I have since added a B-hyve remote watering valve to the connecting point of this system. I can leave the hose valve on, and control the on off operation from my phone remotely. The one setback to this is if the power to your home is shut off, the B-hyve relies on your home wi-fi to send the signal to the unit. One option would be to connect your home wifi to a battery pack (Goal Zero, etc.) if you have time to do so when you evacuate your home due to fire. Here is the link to the B-hyve (I'm happy with the quality and would recommend this product). orbitonline.com/products/b-hyve-smart-hose-watering-timer

    The Redline rebuild kits for the 34 ICT have a brass needle valve vs the epoxy (or what ever it is) covered one. The non-brass one does deform and create a vacuum leak. Perhaps that's your issue?

    • @kekanipahu
      @kekanipahu 2 місяці тому

      I've heard that as well...I should probably get in there again and replace my replacement needle valves with the good quality Redline ones. Thanks for the suggestion!

    I just looked at my 72 bus and it doesn't look like your setup, can't see a hole for a coupler. Bentley manual says, on 72 models only, the flexible coupling is installed on a seperate extension rod that is bolted to the end of the rear shift rod.

    Hi there. It's been almost a year now. How is the bond between the bedliner and the fiberglass holding up? I'm about to bedline a custombuilt teardrop camper with a fiberglass roof and I'm concerned about the primer recommendations vs bare fiberglass under the bedliner.

    • @kekanipahu

    How long did you wait with the key back on after turning off for the light to come back on? If it comes on right away, that’s supposed to be assigned of worn out bearings clearances too high. If it takes a long time for the light to come back on after you turn the engine off that’s a good thing. some of those pressure switches are set at five psi seven psi and 10 psi.

    • @kekanipahu
      @kekanipahu 2 місяці тому

      Yes, I tried it every which way before I replaced it (again!). Switch the key on right away, or turn it off and wait 5 seconds before turning it to ACC. Nothing worked...crazy to get two bad switches in a row. I've been driving it for 2 months with the new pressure switch from JBugs with not issues. Hooray!

    Mine rood molding was loose but I caught in time before it fell off. I used 3M red tape which designed for outdoor body emblems which holds up very well for my roof moldings. I think the molding loosens up from all the vibration from the vehicle. I also feel that people who lost their molding in car wash. The molding was loose prior to the car wash and during the process the molding came off. Rarely does any one wax their car roof to check the roof molding.

    I had a similar noise coming from the engine in my Karmann Ghia. I ended up loosening the four bolts fastening the generator to the fan shroud and the two bolts holding the shroud down at the sides. Spinning the generator with the belt removed I could hear a definite metallic rubbing sound (slightly non concentric). With the pedestal holding the generator being in a fixed position, I gave the shroud a bit of a wiggle and it stopped rubbing. I tightened up the shroud end bolts and then the four generator bolts (in that order) and the noise was gone. 😄 I realise this video is 11 months old but your fuel filter is the wrong way around and should ideally be located away from the engine bay area. Over the gearbox (transmission) or under the fuel (gas) tank are the safest places to avoid a potential engine fire. Thanks for the video. Interesting to know that generator bearings don't always last for ever. 😉Hang loose! 🤟ATB from the UK
