Bullying shouldn’t exist because it harms mental health and can have serious consequences. Recently, I’ve received many hurtful comments from some fellow Filipinos for speaking English. I often feel judged for not using our native language, and they make fun of my accent and how I express myself.
It’s sad to see this kind of thinking still around. It feels outdated and unnecessary. I try to speak English with confidence and fluency, but some people act as if they’re smarter than others. I wonder if they really are successful enough to look down on people. In reality, many of them haven’t achieved much in their own lives.
It's disappointing that in our culture, speaking perfect English is sometimes seen as a sign of intelligence. But English is just a language; it doesn’t define who we are or our worth. What truly matters is how we connect with others, no matter what language we use.
