Randomness and other nonsense ...
Installing a New Power Pole
The work utility linemen perform when replacing a power pole. On this day, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), Northern and Central California’s electric service and natural gas provider, replaced two (2) poles. PG&E was incorporated in California in 1905 and one of the largest utility companies in the United States. They provide electricity and natural gas to approximately 16 million people.
The poles date back to the mid-1940s (per PG&E records). Since then, I can remember the transformer and one (1) crossarm being replaced.
The power was out for approximately six (6) hours, 0830-1430. They mistakenly cut my internet cable which took twenty-four (24) hours to restore.

Water for the Birds - October 2024
Переглядів 1512 місяці тому
It’s a party around the water cooler! LOL I set out a water bowl for the birds (or any other critters) after a couple of extremely warm days in October. A wireless camera I had available was utilized to capture visitors. I was pleasantly surprised to see species not previously observed by the Birdfy bird feeder camera. Like the bird feeder, the House Finches dominated. Who visited: House Finch ...
How Long Will the Anker SOLIX F2000 Portable Power Station last?
Переглядів 2,1 тис.3 місяці тому
Determining how long the Anker SOLIX F2000 Portable Power Station will last when managing my LG refrigerator. Testing was performed on a planned power outage day. The original 1947 power poles were scheduled to replaced. The outage was to last 7-1/2 hours. But the work ended early without the poles being replaced and the power remained on. Which only means there is another planned power outage ...

A giant sunspot, AR3664 is approximately 120,000 miles (200,000 km) wide, or 15 times the diameter of the Earth. This sunspot emitted multiple X-class solar flares on 10 May 2024. X-class is the most powerful solar flare type. These flares triggered a G5 level geomagnetic storm warning. G5 is described as “extreme” and is the highest-level storm. This caused auroras around the world and in area...

Thanks for creating the video, it answers the basic question many need for emergency outages.
Did I hear Hey… hey… you guys shut up over there ?
Excellent video. Most people have no clue about how much work is involved in keeping the power on. Even a simple thing like a branch falling on power lines requires many steps and safety checks before power can be restored. One thing though...I can say for sure that the modern power transformer will not last anywhere near 80 years. In the distribution sizes, they are designed for a 25 year max life span, very few go past that, most will barely make 15 years. It is all due the cost cutting typical of modern goods. Aluminum secondary windings, thinner steel for the cans, and newer safe insulating oils don't have the same moisture resistance and insulating properties of the older, (bot toxic) PCB based fluids.
@@mxslick50 Thank you. Appreciate your insight.
👏🏾
I thought the idea was to have it plugged into solar pannels to keep it charged
That is an option, but a lot of variables. What if the weather outside is overcast? Number of daylight hours during the winter vs the summer, etc. My goal was to keep the test simple and see how long the refrigerator could run solely on batteries. If the power outage was to last more than a day, then the solar panels and gas generator would come into play. Thanks for the comment.
@@EdfromCaliforniaI see ok. I'm new to solar and inverters so doing alot of research at the moment and frying my brain with it all. This is a good video though and interesting. I'm looking for a simple soloar setup to run my house. I see you can get an extra battery for this unit that fits on top which they say would be enough to run a small bungalow with all appliances. Thoughts on this?? What sort of solar sytem setup do you have.
It would depend how energy efficient those "small appliances" are and how long you plan on running them. Anker has portable solar panels available to charge their power stations.
Do you happen to know the power draw in watts of the refrigerator?
The only data I could find was an estimated yearly energy use of 716 kWh/year. I was not able to find any power data for the linear compressor.
@EdfromCalifornia Typically there is a sticker inside the fridge near the top shelf, right side. It will mention the running volts and amps. Multiplying those will give the running wattage, which should roughly correspond to the power draw the Anker is reporting while the fridge is running.
Ah, yes 🤦... the label reads 115V ~ 60Hz, 3.2A, 450W. Thank you. 🙏
@@EdfromCaliforniaThank you for checking, and thanks for sharing this video!
I like your post. I use a long plus bird feeder cam and would like to get another camera but don't want to spend a whole lot of money. Can you recommend anything for me. I would also like to share my birds.
Thanks. Not sure I can help you with an inexpensive recommendation. If you already have a home security setup, buying an extra camera is probably the least expensive way. My water bowl setup is using a spare security camera (Arlo) I had. The one drawback is the motion detection alert notifies me every time something is detected (bird, squirrel, cat, me ...). Most annoying. I haven't found a way to turn off the notification for just 1 camera, its all or nothing. If you don't already have a home security camera system, purchasing a simply setup is probably the next cheapest (Eufy, Blink, etc). Another option I can think of is using a trail camera setup. Don't know what they cost. I also heard that Windows 11 has or will have the ability to use a smartphone's camera. Its only at 720p and for using as a webcam conferencing. But perhaps a spare smartphone could be adapted to be used as a bird cam. Good luck. Hope this helps.
Thanks for this advice.
Yay birbs!!
They like the bowl better
Love the music
Not long enough *boy.* The Anker F2000 is more than 1 year OLD and they need to update it with more capacity!

Remember the Charlie Brown's restaurant?
I think the conference center used to be the steakhouse and the kayak place an Italian restaurant.
@@EdfromCalifornia Maybe, I was just a kid and moved in 88. I looked it up and I think the Charlie Brown's is now Club America Air Conditioning and Heating. I also feel like there was a general store in that building? It was like a general store geared towards nautical lifestyles? I also remember there was a mini-golf/arcade/go cart fun center right off 101 at the Seaport exit.
Kobe!!!!! ❤️
Nice straightforward informative presentation. Good job!
Thank you.
Nice video. What did you use? A camera or phone ?
Both. And you can tell which pictures were taken with what camera.
Interesting. Not just passing through. Kept stopping and looking around.
Cool video
Thank you. Turned out better than I thought.
