DCC Sound Speaker Upgrade - getting great quality sound without breaking the bank!
Переглядів 2 тис.Рік тому
With the ever-increasing cost of everything these days, for many, the idea of DCC sound is too expensive to consider, as a decent sound decoder will set you back £120 . However, by using a far cheaper Hornby TTS decoder and a speaker upgrade, a good DCC sound experience can be achieved at half the price! This video demonstrates upgrading the speaker on a Hornby TTS decoder using a "Volcano" spe...

Demonstration of my Ringfield motor upgrade kits which are available from the links below, for use in upgrading Hornby and Lima locomotives that are fitted with 3 pole Ringfield motors (circa 80s-90s). Excellent video and clear explanation. I am attempting this but my wheels are insulated at both ends of the axle. I think I will try conductive paint.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. I am tring to fit lights into my Hornby R103 - BR Class 142 Railbus. But I have difficulty removing the windows. Is it possible to fit lights into this railbus? Thank you.
Great video with some very useful information, not only on upgrading the Ringfield motor, but also on cleaning and lubricating a locomotive.
Excellent video. I wish I had seen it before buying some of the cheaper Hornby DCC decoders
Excellent video with some very useful information. I will certainly be buying your kits and following this video when I do my Ringfield motor upgrades.
I’ve barely started to watch this video and already I’ve been over to look at the motor upgrades and I’m not even a model railway enthusiast! I’m getting up to speed for a friend who wants to recreate his model railway. I have been providing him with buildings and platform structures that I design and print in 3D. Thank you for this video, I am going to be fascinated by it and you deserve a like and a subscribe!
Well done, my friend!
Out of curiosity, has anyone ever attempted to fit two power bogies to a loco? I’m no electronics expert by any stretch, so I was simply curious if it’s possible to fit say, two 6v motors, potentially for more traction.
Excellent tutorial, I bought a couple of kits off you after this and fitted, old HST runs like a treat! Great stuff.
Hello friend, I'm from Brazil, from the state of Rio de Janeiro, and I would like to purchase the adapter to replace the old 3-pole motor with a more modern one, as per your explanation above! How do I buy the adapter for my Lima locomotive? thanks! Luiz Rodrigues
Very well explained, thank you. Might well have a go at upgrading some of my own locos now.
I have a Hornby class 47 CO CO Configuration . so If I buy a slimline which is the only option for my loco is that working with my controller which is 12v ? any harm for the motor which is 6v ?
Excellent, really clear tutorial thank you
Can you please send me the value of the resistor
I’m going to get one of these for my old Hornby HST’s. Can you use these motor kits on equivalent Lima models as well or are they just For Hornby models?
16:37 would be much safer to take the bottom plate off and fix the wire, then thread it back up into the chassis. This is a very creative cleaver solution well done. I've got loads of X04 spares but am tempted to try one of these
Thank you for these wonderfully informative videos. Believe me, much appreciated ! Hope to see videos on how to fit a second motor to locos - two motors in one unit such as diesel/electric/gas turbine/ tender locos - both DC and DCC. All The Best !
Brilliant instructional video. So clearly explained and demonstrated. Nice steady camera work with excellent lighting makes even detail so easy to see and understand. The close up still shots were very useful, too. Completed train train looks awesome running in the dark! Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you very much.
Sacrilege, getting rid of that old Fleischman motor.
you will find that if you remove the two screws under the chassis the collectorplate will come away and you can solder the wire safely without damage to the nylon gear
How can I get one of these in the U.S. ?
I have a tender driven Duchess class. I noticed the locomotive seems to have placement for a motor, bracket and gear (on the from axle. Are parts available to convert the loco and eliminate the Ring motor ?
Simply put ideal thank you
If only Hornby made enough TTS soundchips to meet demand, but sadly they never do and consistently fall short in most things they do.
I added new moter dose not move , took moter out works ??? Help needed Will not drive grear wheel 08 shunter R152
Will you be adding more stock? A very interesting and well explained video. Just subscribe 😊
I enjoyed that
have you got more on order ?
Hi, I’ve just messaged you on eBay. Can I please ask if you offer this service to do whereby I send my 4 coaches and you do this work? Please let me know your thoughts. Many thanks, J
Do you have any motor kits for an 08 lima shunter
what is the current draw compared with the triang motor?
Hello, very nice demonstration, clear and sharp, please, can you, but give a name or a company, where I can get this engine. Sincerely Raymond - Bonjour, très belle démonstration, clair et net, s'il vous plait, pouvez-vous, mais donne un nom ou une société, où je puis me procure ce moteur. Cordialement Raymond
great video. if you put heatshrink on wire before stripping, uts a lot easier
What better way to learn about hard wiring than to see an expert demonstrating it. This video is absolutely excellent and since my local model shop is no longer converting locos, and has converted 8 of my old locos already, I shall be able (I hope), to do this myself. All I need is some heat shrink cable! Top drawer.
any idea when you will have them available again?
I'm extremely sceptical of your Motors if you can prove they will be quieter and they work on DC ok in a Duchess I require in and indeed Runner a good scale speed I will buy some off of you would like to see my Duchess's run quieter and they don't burn out at a drop of a hat on DC
Hi Mark I have an old lima shunter that needs re-motoring and converting to DCC. As a shunter is more power less speed does it take a different motor to that of a loco? If it does I hope you can supply same in your ebay shop. Cheers Tim
im gonna have to buy one at somepoint
Great tutorial. Hello from NZ
Way to much talking
So why didn't you solder the red wire to the bogie and connect black to black ?
Very impressed - the older models are much more fun and with a replacement a new lease of life is possible for a reasonable cost.
Bloody brilliant. Very detailed explanation. Gives me the confidence to give this a bash! Cheers and thanks.
Mine has metal wheels, but both sides have the plastic bush to insulate the shaft
Same here, I am getting some conductive paint to see if that helps.
I think quite a few of my models have an XO2/3/4 motor in them. The problem with them isn't that I'd want to "Upgrade" them, but many of them just don't even work any more. I end up canalising motor parts from one to fix another. So this would be more useful for me for repairs.
Hi Mark yet another fantastic video, if possible can you do a video of fitting your conversion on the Hornby apt with the ringfield motor as I am about to purchase another kit from you, my virgin HST 125 is now running fine thanks to your help
Very good tutorial and I have a similar loco but not the Silver Seal version. I would like to point out that the original motor is the Flieschman motor adopted by Triang Hornby. This is a superior motor to the other Ringfield style motors used by Hornby. Looks like the armature needs a good clean and that is what I have done with mine. I am in the process of replacing the alloy pinions on some of my locos with new brass ones but they are proving difficult to get on to the shaft. Another point is the small caps which retain the springs/brushes are hard to find, at least here in Toronto. Using two screwdrivers to remove the wheels is an excellent piece of advice and should be noted by all. Thanks for taking the timer o produce this very helpful video, I know the effort it requires Regards Charlie
Hi is there any conversation for the hornby class 58 cheers
What an excellent tutorial. And we appreciate you sacrificing ease of working for a better video view.
Thank you. My biggest worry doing that is burning my hand when soldering but so far, so good.
