    The short film starts strong with duality between two characters and above all I think this is the most important. My grandmother made dresses, and for this filmmaker to reach within to describe an understanding "within" and "out" through the language of dresses was a delivery of information. Also, I appreciated the filmmaker's reflection of dual characters with the artisans who did the designing. From Creator to Creation, there could be a carry-through. Whether we were talking in the light of Ariel/Mary Poppins, etc versus Ursula/Cruella, I felt the filmmaker weighed each character in opposition fairly. For example, by mentioning the Mickey Mouse outline in Cruella's dress gives a little confidence for the forwardly erring character. The filmmaker's mentions of design-detail and embroidery (intricacy) to fill any gaps of opposition in the characters' persona was a fair treatment. In her few final scenes, some character-opposition is broken in the mentioning of Cinderella's stepsister combination. By "celebrating" them as characters, we leave straddling the "good vs bad," and within the Director, find peace and humility and acceptance within story platform (and perhaps real life??) Thanks for the great video. It brought back some memories of my family's interest in dresswork.

    Hi. I think you painted a good picture of how to connect or reconnect to something in "recession" when comparing to the more vivid, and vibrating Japan. It also seems that when you had proximity with a singular, neat, and the advanced idea of your relationship with the Japanese lifestyle, in 1989, you could create yourself as more of an attraction. Still, I entirely bow down to your ability to find yourself in America, in shadowed ways, in order to survive. But above all, that you did this for your mother (the replacement for Japan) makes me wonder if you can acclaim a height of of comparable satisfaction as you could when you were away. Thank you for this video. It prepares me for anything that may occur in my life and how to fit into the unpredictable tomorrow.

    Interesting way to describe it . I left for Japan when Reagan got elected for the second time. I knew things were not going to get any better. I’m so thankful I lived here when I had my heart attack the hospital bill came to grand total of $2,000 including the ambulance ride and it would have been only half that had I not had a private room once I got out of the ICU. 17 days in the hospital. And my work insurance covered that $2,000. I can’t even conceive of how much it would’ve cost me in the states. When I left my employment after 35 years my School gave me two years of full pay! Yes there are downsides in living in Japan like it’s really hard to find grits.

    • @39JAPAN

      Thank you for your comment! I loved reading it. I understand completely about the health care and company pension system over there. It is so much better. Even all kids have free healthcare until the age of 12. My son had a few operations and I walked out with no line to wait in, no insurance papers to sign, and no letters with payments due. So much easier and less stressful. I am sorry about the grits.😭 I know they are hard to find. I think the only place that had them was online store FBC, which is now gone. Thank you again. I am glad you are well and have great care in Japan. I miss it. 😢

      @@39JAPAN I’m sorry you had to experience the health system here in such a scary fashion, we’ve been lucky with our son. When you mention FBC so many images & emotions flooded through me. I don’t know how many Christmases, thanksgivings, when her son was little Halloweens were made special with FBC’s help. We live in Sakai, so they were easy to get to. And of course their delivery. They were super nice as you well know. I hope your adjustments are going smoothly. When my. Brother moved back in 1991 after 12 years his reverse culture shock left him in a bad state for about 2 years, but he also had other issues.

      @39JAPAN 6 місяців тому

      Thank you for your comments. My son is fine, and I was so lucky to be in Japan with the surgeries and care. I am not sure I would have been able to pay for it all. FBC was a great store for us. I remember when I first found out about them, I was so happy. It is was way before Costco came to Japan. That store gave us a little bit of home to us. It was the first place I found pumpkins for Halloween. I was sad to see them close up shop in Japan, but I could understand why with Costco and other stores bring in the foreign goods. I am trying to navigate my path here in America. I am not sure of my course. But my mom is at ease that I am home with her. Thank you again for watching and your comment. Take care and have a wonderful week!

    What a FUN trip!👏 Great video. I've never seen cherry blossoms in person. I wanna go next time.😁

      Thank you for watching and your comment. I so much appreciate it! This year it was a spur of the moment thing to do because it had been raining a lot this year so not only were the cherry blossoms delayed but we were thinking it might not be possible to go. But we were so lucky. Actually I have never seen them in full bloom before. I was so impressed with their beauty. ❤️

      Yes. Some of it. My grandparents lived there a long time and would tell us the stories behind the places that we would visited.

      Thank you for your comment and letting me know that I mislabeled it. I will ask the Kendo teacher about shadow kendo. I had no idea. Thank you again.

      @@39JAPAN I made up "shadow kendo" term with idea it is something similar to "shadow boxing". But to my knowledge, suburi is dozen of specific swings with specific form, they are intended as training exercises, and those on video are not them.

      Okay. I understand but according to the Kendo Master what I filmed was Suburi. I just edited and applied music to it. Thank you for your comment.
