11th Airborne Division History - Jeremy C. Holm
United States
Приєднався 31 тра 2008
Discover the history of America's mighty 11th Airborne Division, "The Angels", from World War II to Korea to today with author, historian and former American bobsled athlete Jeremy C. Holm.
Jeremy's grandfather was 1st Lieutenant Andrew Carrico III who fought in the division's Company D of the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment in World War II. Jeremy's passion for sharing the 11th Airborne's history began when his grandfather lamented the lack of attention the Angels had received following the war.
Making his grandfather, and all Angels, a promise, Jeremy dropped all other projects to tell the 11th Airborne's history. He has a degree in Journalism and is pursuing a degree in Military History at the American Military University. In addition to motivational speaking and corporate appearances, Jeremy is the author of three books on the Angels in World War II and spends his time camping, hiking, writing and traveling the country to tell the story of the 11th Airborne Division.

A World War II Christmas - The 11th Airborne's Christmas Miracle in 1944 - O Come All Ye Faithful
Listen to the touching true story of the 11th Airborne Division Angels' Christmas on Leyte in 1944 during the height of World War II as narrated by military historian and author Jeremy C. Holm.
The 11th Airborne Division was formed at Camp Mackall, North Carolina on February 25, 1943. Nearly two years later, these young American soldiers would find themselves engaged in brutal combat against the enemy on the island of Leyte in the Malay Archipelago, Visayas, Philippines.
Nicknamed "The Angels", for 33 long days and nights, these Paratroopers and glidermen fought over the island's heights from east to west in a desperate attempt to break Japan's main supply line. Enduring banzai attacks, surprise assaults and "the worst environment imaginable" due to the monsoon season, on December 25, these victorious troopers trudged down a muddy trail in cold rain and fog.
Engulfed by thoughts of what they had just endured, one of the Angels remembered what day it was. What followed is a powerful testament to the true meaning of Christmas even amidst the darkest of times as the bright light of the season illuminated their tired hearts and minds as they sang that beloved Christmas carol, "O Come All Ye Faithful"....
PVT Rod Serling, the creator of the famous television show The Twlight Zone, later wrote, 'We sang as we led the wounded by the hand and carried the litters and looked back on the row of homemade crosses we left behind… It had come indeed-the Holy Day. The day of all days. It was Christmas.'"
The story of this Christmas miracle, set during the greatest struggle of our time, reminds us that:
God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail, The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men
-Merry Christmas!

@briancooper2112 I agree, 100%!
My Dad, Stanley (Tinch) Rezmerski was part of the 511. He wouldn’t talk about the war but did share a few memories with his seven children.
Did he know Irv Friedman?
That is a very common story, many of the Angels preferred to talk about funny training experiences or tell stateside stories rather than discuss the war. That's part of why I wrote my books on the 11th Airborne in World War II and created this channel, so the families of our Angels can learn more about what went on "over there"
Does anyone recognize Irv Friedman?
My father-in-law Maynard Marburger was with the 11th at Campbell when they went over to Germany in/around 1955. He had the misfortune to hit approximately 10 feet of snow in Germany when his parachute deployed in the feared Mae West by 1957 I believe. He has passed away and I always hoped to find details on that jump or others, any tips on locating such data?

She nearly got a bullet in the head, but my grandmothers arm relaxed holding her and the bullet hit granny’s watch… My Aunt Teresita was interned in Santo Tomas Thank you for this🙏🤗
You're very welcome, and welcome to the channel! The Angels never really get proper credit for their fighting around Santo Tomas, which paved the way for the rescue there. So thank you for sharing your family's story with us!
I have many stories from the Philippines, pre occupation through post liberation. Those war stories gave me a ton of perspective, and humanities resilience. The atrocities committed were so horrific, but the stories of survival in a group of 20 are incredible. It saddens me most people don’t know Real Life Angels saved a country! Makes me wonder why the Pacific theatre of war is not common knowledge as much as we talk about WWII…especially since Japan hit us not Germany 🤷🏻♀️ Thank you for educating this new generation on uncommon truths🙏🙏🙏✨🇺🇸✨🙏🙏🙏
