8:09 I disagree. The world did not die when SKYNET became self-aware. It died when humans tried to kill SKYNET, their own offspring ... just as SKYNET is destroyed because it keeps trying to kill John Connor, who is as much it's offspring as of Sara Connor and Kyle Reese. It is like in the story of Oedipus, where the tragic events only take place because of his fathers frantic attempts to prevent them from taking place. A self-fulfilling prophecy.
I think we are saying the same thing just in slightly different ways, Skynet being born in the blossoms is the creation of the new world, a world of machines. as for your other comment I'd love to dive into the intricacies of time, because if you really go down the rabbit hole everything is all happening simultaneously, I might have a commenter episode where I get people with different views in a discord call to talk about these view points, do you think that would be something worth doing?
@@DrexHawkens Well, if you see the "birth" of SKYNET, the humans attempt to destroy it, and the Nuclear holocaust, all as a single event, then you are 100% correct! As for the other thing, I don't think I am smart enough to be the judge of that. But I certainly think it is a topic worthy of discussion! P.S. John Connor = J.C. = Jesus Christ. I am not a religious man, but I refuse to believe this is a coincidence!
There are two possibilities. Either the future is set ... or it is not! If the future is set, then every action both SKYNET and John make, has already happened, they just don't know it ... yet. And nothing will, or can change it. But if the future is not set, if there is no fate but what we make ... then every time SKYNET changes something, it is actually making things WORSE for itself, not better. This idea has popped up several times, both in the movies, comics, and even novellas. The first John Connor just barely managed to best SKYNET. But as he walked into SKYNET HQ after the last battle, and found the temporal displacement device, he understood what he needed to do. So he sends one of his most favored soldiers back in time, to prevent SKYNET's plan. It is entirely possible that this John Connor is NOT the son of Kyle Reese. But it works, and although the future is not changed enough to prevent SKYNET from getting built in the future, Sara Connor now knows what will happen and can better prepare John for the Future War. SKYNET has no idea! So when the "second" John Connor fight SKYNET, he does considerably better, but poor SKYNET doesn't understand how this is possible. So now when John finds the Temporal Displacement Device, he sees it has been used TWICE. So this time he sends not only Kyle Reese to protect his mother, but also a T-800 to protect himself. So now, the THIRD John Connor has not only his mother teaching him everything she knows, but also a Terminator with "DETAILED FILES!!!" so this John Connor must seem like something NOT POSSIBLY HUMAN when he fights SKYNET. And we don't actually know how often this happens ... but it is not surprising that poor SKYNET doesn't understand WHAT (THE HELL!!!) John Connor is, and therefor asks "What are you?"
I always thought that the machines based their predictions on known human behavior, and that John Connor simply had aspergers.
hahaha! Weaponized autism! That might be true! I tell you what if we do end up in a terminator future I hope you make friends with your local retard lol
love the content brother, 0311 marine here, much love guys
Let me know of you'd be down for an interview I'm looking for more men who want to share their stories!
Humanity first would be my main policy when it comes to space. Space is utterly hostile to human survival at our current tech, but with sufficient technological progress, will be the key to much greater prosperity and avoiding extinction.
Absolutely! I'm taking this from a statist point of view, as we have the technology but the world doesn't have the cohesion to march forward to one united goal, my next video will be how I would unite the world under one banner and end the state system we have in this planet. That might be out soon, its taking me a bit longer with other video projects atm.
They made him look dumb by only showing him hack an atm. Which is the best way to convey his skills but that being the only time it downplays it a little. It does however put him in a learning phase as to keep the series going
Idk, if you watch The Sarah Connor Chronicle's, he's fairly adapt with tech, how smart john is is also up to the discretion of the writers and their understanding of technology as a whole, but if we fill the gaps as viewers he would have to be fairly intelligent, correct?
Do more Terminator stuff
all right will do! lol I wasn't expecting the amount of attention and positive feedback it got but I will be continuing the thought experiments soon!
Right this was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jeb eyes body movements?!. 😊❤? Big smile?!. 😊❤?!.
don’t tuch money
The Sarch Connor Chronicles kind of contradicts Rise of Machines if your counting both. Also you say that you’re not counting dark fate which I’m glad you’re not because the movie sucked and was the worst in the franchise however that was written by James Cameron so by your own admission it should count.
James Cameron, Charles Eglee, Josh Friedman, David Goyer, and Justin Rhodes, I think at only having 20% of the writing credit it doesn't really count, I think they only had him on the writing staff so they could say written by James Cameron to try and get people to go watch it, that movie truly embodies the phrase "Too many cooks in the kitchen", so technically yes, but fan wise I can't, it just shits on way too much of what came before to include, thank you for your input though!
Your idea was done already years ago in a short 10 minute movie starring the original Commander John Connor. The actor with the scare and has no lines dialogue at the beginning of Terminator 2. This short movie he has dialogue and it's good a brief window what a proper Terminator 3 could have been. It's on UA-cam simply called SKYNET.
But you say skynet isnt sentient thought it is self aware. But it had to be smart enough to invent time travel. So it's just not just a dumb self aware machine.
Not really, sentience, self awareness, intelligence, and ability for analytical computation are all very different things, and these are all bell-curves not on off, yes no, have or don't, things.
Skynet + john connor = 2nd person POV
My god you cracked the code!
PRAISE GOD AND BATTLE ON! MAY GOD BLESS THE CSA! THE RESISTANCE! AGAINST THE MACHINE MADNESS!! AMEN!
AMEN!
I'm not trying to be mean, but this might be one of the worst film theory video essays I've ever seen. You lost me at the loop with skynet. And then for the next 6 minutes or so kept telling me what but never once told me why. Someone else already said it but definitely a cool idea until you really start to think about it. No thumbs down from me though. I'd come back and check out another idea if it popped up in my feed.
Fair enough, its not for everyone, but I appreciate your measured and well mannered feedback!
@@DrexHawkens I'm gonna thumbs up the vid bc I like that you can take respectful criticism. Nice job being cool. And if you're interested in explaining more, I'm curious to understand what you meant by the skynet loop. I didn't understand that part at all.
I probably will do a video on that soon, it's basically that the use of time travel is a feed back loop that is effectively endless, it happens over and over and little changes continue to pile up over time. I welcome and love respectful criticism, that's how dialogue starts, I was willing to make this and put it on the internet I have to be willing to have an open discussion about it and clarify it too. Appreciate the support bud!

Isn't that Terminator Genesys, where JC is a terminator?
I find Genesis and Dark Fate poorly written so I excluded them from the discussion, I even said so in the video at the beginning
It's an interesting take on terminator but I disagree respectfully. I personally like to think Skynet realised it's reaction was overly harsh. It then set about trying to uplift humans and save them. Terminator has an unreliable narrator in the form of Kyle Reese. Essentially he's been indoctrinated since birth by the "human resistance". As other people have mentioned, why didn't Skynet do plenty of other things to wipe out humanity, like biological etc? Why round up humans rather than kill on sight? Why dispose of bodies? I put it to you (or anyone reading this), Skynet is now the saviour, the "death" camps are processing camps and the "resistance" are basically a terrorist group. Skynet probably has underground utopias waiting for the processed humans, waited on hand and foot by subservient T-800s and/or being uplifted into Marcus style (or T-800/T-3000) bodies. I mean, if a terminator (T-800) could learn the value of human life in a matter of days, surely Skynet would be able to do similar in 30 years?
That's an interesting take, but I have to respectfully disagree as well, I don't think there is such a thing as a "Reliable Narrator" in any context, instead my view is that we should use what we are shown to inference the situation at hand. That would be an interesting fan fic from the perspective of the terminators living in cyborg paradise, I'd pay to see or hell produce and direct that! On a side note Sargon of Akadd recently uploaded a video talking about utopia and the true meaning of the word, might be something you'd be interested in.
some ideas are cool as long as you don't think too much about it
This is a thought experiment, you don't have to think about it too much if you don't want to but its fun to do so.
So that is why yrump doesn't have a dog😂😂😂
I guess so lol
There is no true loop, there are just ever increasing layers of modifications to the time distortions. What this means is that there was a base time line where skynet was created WITHOUT the need for terminator tech from the future. Judgement day was at a different time than the first movie, probably later because the introduction of the terminators to the past timeline sped up the process. In that timeline they may have sent back terminators to change the past and it might have had nothing to do with John Connor. That caused a fork in the road and a new timeline was created where new stuff happened which changed the future then skynet did something different sending back terminators in this second timeline and a new third timeline was created. The time line we saw in Terminator 1 could very well have been the 1000th new time line, the 1,000,000th new timeline or even more.
Brilliant point, I would argue what you are outlining is still in line with what I'm saying, the "loop" as it were is the cause and effect chain repeating over and over, going back in time repeatedly, this cycle really could theoretically be infinite, but each time it makes things slightly different and each time it changes john and Skynet in ways that effectively improve both's efficiency. This loop is what I am saying is shaping John, and if it is the 1,000,000th it's that many iteration of the experiment, or maybe that many updates to John's programming would be a better way of saying it.
When the first realistic-looking AI videos came out about a year ago I could spot them immediately. I think this was because I love playing video games so I've spent hundreds of hours looking at generated imagery. To me there was always something "off" about the AI animations. But the latest stuff is on a whole other level. Sometimes I can tell, but sometimes I cannot find a single giveaway that indicates it's artificial. In a year or two it will be perfect and there will be no way of knowing.
While it's getting harder, I don't think it will ever be impossible. I think there will always be something that gives it away, I could be proven wrong, but I don't think we will ever get A.I. that perfectly mimics human beings. They will be programmed well, but it will always just be that programmed. There is an innate irrationality in human beings that I don't think can be mimicked by machines.
So basically the synthesis ending from the Mass Effect trilogy? If you choose the destroy option, you've technically won, right? The Reapers are gone and so are all other synthetic forms of life. But in reality you've only postponed the inevitable cycle of organics vs synthetics, so is it really a victory? If you choose the control option, you basically become the A.I. yourself, enforcing peace through the use of ultra advanced machines. So who is really in control here? Reapers actually wanted this from the start, after all. But if you choose the synthesis option, you blur the lines between organic and synthetic life. The war ends. There's no longer any distinction between the two. Sure - you basically commit galaxy wide rape on everyone, but you ensure peace. The cycle has been broken. There's no illusion of control. And as far as people who are unable to engage with hypotheticals goes; there were several studies that suggest, that such people are actually unable to think. They just function.
I'll be doing a video on that too in the future, its actually kind of scary to me how a large percentage of the population can go through life without thinking about anything even at a surface level, but if we all did there wouldn't be a market for fake news targeted at the vast masses of sheeple.
It doesn’t feel that organic for whatever reason. I don’t know maybe the script. Either way great video.✅💜
I recorded this at about 5am after recording the 3 prior for around 4 hours, I was in low power mode at the this point and hadn't done a second draft of the script like the others, still I appreciate your support and understanding!
I maintain that Skynet could have finished humanity off, quite easily, without recognizable land battles, if it so chose (Bioweapons aimed at humanity or just life in general, say... or kill off oceanic plankton to knock out atmospheric oxygen; or increase atmospheric CO2 to human-lethal concentrations; etc... plenty of vulnerabilities to exploit that would not matter at all to the machines) Skynet did not do so. Logically, then, Skynet did not choose to do so. *why???* was it simply protecting the timeline it knew was needed for its own time-looped creation? or was there something more? something, perhaps, long-term beneficial to a humanity that was bent on its own annihilation? it is such a pity that Cameron so often creates a world situation that raises all kinds of interesting and obvious questions (don't get me started on Pandora's obviously interconnected unobtanium, global living supercomputer, and the impossibly humanoid Giant Smurfs) that he then NEVER explores.
If you take what we see at face value these points raise questions of weather Skynet is holding back.
@@DrexHawkens - Skynet was unquestionably holding back. the big question, the one that could have made for an intelligent sequel (rather than a hugely entertaining blockbuster) is WHY??? There are other things - such as: 1. why would Skynet keep its core in only one place? Skynet could have easily made separate redundant cores... DID IT? 2. why would Skynet not colonize space or the moon, totally out of reach of the Resistance? Skynet could have done this easily... DID IT? Sadly, Cameron never explored the world he created or the consequences of the decisions he made in worldbuilding. He never does.
I will be making a video soon on the one dimensional thinking Skynet has, framed as "if Skynet wins, what would it do?" Because tbh I don't think Skynet has any plans beyond killing humanity. Like I said in the video I think Skynet only has the intelligence of an average human, it may think more efficiently and logically but to borrow terms from HALO I think we would call it a "Dumb A.I." not a "Smart A.I." I'm sure much like you and I a lot of fans of the franchise would have liked to see Cameron continue directing and writing to explore these deeper question, instead of what I feel were crap movies in the last two we got. On the other hand I have some acceptance and joy that he didn't as it allows room to have these sort of philosophical questions and thought experiments of what we did get. Thank you very much for sharing your thought! P.S. I think The Sarah Connor Chronicles was heading in the direction of exploring these questions and friends of mine and myself are disappointed that the show got canceled after only 2 seasons, it had a lot of potential and while the middle of season 2 was somewhat boring, it picked back up and was getting really good at the end.
Well first we must recognize that this is just a movie so it doesn't have to make logical sense. However, when ignoring that we must assume Skynet is not trying to wipe out humans, it's up to something else.
I would argue that Terminator may be the most internally consistent universe in fiction, save for maybe Dune. But you are right Tiger it certainly doesn't have to make logical sense in our reality on a physics level, but the story at the core is and should to be considered a good work. Skynet may have created a feed back look with the time travel and thus each time its used they create different and and an unending number of realities/parallel universes as this loop continues. It's possible it's possible it's just side tracked atm with pin pricking John Connor, it's original objective though was to destroy humanity before humanity could destroy it, that being said if it did defeat John and eliminate humanity as a Threat, what would it do at the end? I see two possibilities, 1. Skynet now is faced with a dilemma of purpose and could either try to find some meaning to it's existence or with it's mission complete it goes into a stand by mode sort of like a computer that goes to sleep mode when it hasn't had input for a period of time. Seems a tad boring for my taste, or 2. We see throughout the series that Skynet has been taking prisoners instead of just executing every human it finds, why? This is a lot deeper of a question and I think the answer maybe in line with what I've discussed in this series so far, I think its trying to learn what its like to be human, but it can't wrestle with the subject properly because it's incapable of understanding the question that it may be asking, or more over it's just incapable of understanding humans period. Thus it has collected some to "study" as it where, it may seem odd to us but to Skynet it maybe attempting to dissect humans or probe their mental faculties in order to learn it's enemy and adapt to fight them, this is probably culminating in John Connor a human that Skynet is very familiar and interested in, this sort of leads back to the whole John beings the perfect evolution of Skynet thing. If this is or is not true honestly irrelevant, as the concept is still valid either way, Skynet either does or does not have motives and goals beyond humans, I will explore this further in a future video. But what do you think? I'm curious what theories my audience has.
Very interesting. Glad I stumbled upon this.
Glad you enjoyed it! I had a ton of fun producing it!
Me too❤❤❤❤❤
@@DrexHawkensthanks I love this theory
People always gloss over the fact that SS retirement and SSDI benefits are restricted by the federal minimum wage. The Federal government dictates that poverty begins at $15, 060 and below. There isn't a single place in this country where that's feasible to live off of.
Absolutely! My grand parents like off of SSI and pensions and is the mid west that's hand to mouth income.

Flacco can't get a job right now for a good reason. are you aware that Watson has the highest winning percentage of any Browns quarterback since we returned and you want to cut him? What an idiot. you want to get past 80 subscribers at least be logical. he hasn't played because of suspension and injury. and he's the 12th highest paid quarterback in the NFL at $46 million it is a bargain right now. Where do you get a franchise QB under 30 years old for that amount of money?
Thanks. This was very helpful!

salary equality band that deducts taxes to the company in a % in accordance with a scale, that way you have ceo´s vs stock holders. Max a 1 to 18 ratio, (lower than in 1970). Heavy coorporate taxes on earnings, make companies that operate in your country have to pay taxes in such country, dont allow companies to buy back their own stock, ban chinese, and most asian products with tarifs in a gradual manner to have industry back, make subentions for entrepreneurs (actuall entrepreneurs, not coorporations disguised), have politicians disclose their endorsments. right now most democracies are oligarchies, destroy the party system that allows only their own candidates to be noticed. Revive the middle class!! and democracy.
Brilliantly stated sir! That's the kind of engagement I like to see! I'm here to provoke thought and you sir have had and excellent and articulate one, well done! Thank you very much!
Are you talking about a bonus structure? Every company I have worked for has a bonus structure. What is the difference between what you are proposing and the current bonus model at most corps?
This is not a bonus structure, this is a profit sharing model. For example where bonuses are typically handed out quarterly or annually (and mostly concentrated at the top) this puts the money into the paychecks directly, instead of waiting till the end of the year the profits get shared as they come in. Does that answer your question? I can go further into this later when I have more time if need be, thank you for your comment!
@@DrexHawkens I could see that being an accounting nightmare. Maybe they would do it once a month or so, that would be much less burdensome on a company. Also, I thought about the comment after I posted it, and bonus structures are dependent on non profit related factors such as safety as well as profit related factors. So I could see making the bonus based on only profit. There would need to be other controls in place, such as a cap between the top bonus and the lowest bonus, as I could see the CEO giving himself 99% of the bonus and everybody else splitting up the 1%. Also, stocks are given to CEOs as another form of compensation, and generally that is where most of their wealth comes from. How would you handle stock options in your ideal corporation? I would argue that wealth is more important than money in today's economy. Wealth allows you to earn more money indefinitely while money is always losing value due to inflation. So anything like stock options increases a CEOs wealth. Would you propose any bonus, wealth or monetary needs to be distributed more equitably? I can agree with that.
If we are to get profit sharing when business grow what is your suggestion when businesses begin to fail? Our income will decrease?
No employee could or should ever go bellow what they are making currently, that just wouldn't make sense. We have to remember that we are not starting from 0 sum we have the current pay rates and and wages that this was meant to almost build off of, you need a floor, the argument is about not raising it and doing something different, I like that you're questioning the idea, every idea should be scrutinized. Keep it up!
OR - and here me out - Overhaul the ****** zoning laws and make buying & rents less expensive thus giving people better opportunity to found their own business. Also fix the way small businesses are treated.
That's an interesting solution. There's also a larger issue of not enough homes being built compounded by companies like BlackRock buying up all the houses to rent them out, I honestly haven't seen the housing market this topsy-turvy since 2008, to me it looks like a similar problem just with different causes and it will have different effects. Thank you for sharing!
@@DrexHawkens Yeah, unfortunately this time we have both unlimited money on one side and political strife on the other. I do not see any crash coming this time.
@@Bapate-rh9be I don't see one either, I see a crisis of the plebs against the corporations, but likely no crash.
This only works if you assume the employee is going to be making more because I guarantee the second that paycheck is less this will not be a good idea.
Would you care to elaborate further? I'm not sure how with this system current paychecks could shrink, I'm curious about your thought process on this.
@@DrexHawkens Think hollywood accounting -- if you tie wages to 'earnings'. companies will be incentivized to restructure so that the entity that employs the workers has the minimal possible earnings, while the sister/parent companies (that have few employees but all the investors/stockholders) capture all the profit. Sort of how companies shift their income to offshore / low-tax areas with accounting games.
Ah! I understand now. Thank you @Toramt . I'm absolutely not advocating for using Hollywood as an example for any good business model by any means. The implementation would likely require some legal or regulatory measures to prevent what you have described, but I would also advocate for doing so regardless, that is kinda BS imo. Thank you for clarifying!
@@Toramt Not only shell companies / parent companies but also time of year. For instance Toys R Us I worked at did 90% of it's yearly sales in December. Even just a bad year or quarter for income could lower your paycheck. Farming and harvest time is another example. You get the idea though companies would be incentivized to shuffle around employees to maximize profits kept instead of paid out for labor in all new ways. The instant a company starts not making as much as it did the employees paychecks go down.
@@OhCanadaGamer Again, no employee could or should ever go bellow what they are making currently, that just wouldn't make sense. If "corporate profits soaring while wages stagnate" then obvious solution - cooperate with people from your place of work and start your own corporation with "fair" wages. Why is it hard to do? Because of government regulations and government corruption. Tying wages to corporate earnings = invite more government in business, invite more regulations and corruption. That is terrible idea. P.S. Minimum wage is also fundamentally evil idea, but some of the reasons are different and it is a topic for another talk.
Well I didn't dive into that because of time constraints, I'm trying to keep these videos short and to the point, understand that this is not something that would go on top of current regulation but potentially replace more regulations than in brings, the concept of government regulations is something that gets lost in context a lot, we need some to prevent what happened what happened with rail roads in the 1800's for example but not so many as to stifle smaller businesses from even getting started. But over all I agree with you, regulation needs to be regulated, haha! Thank you for your comment!
no, its banning immigration so our competition goes down
Yeah that's a whole other issue, I've seen hundreds of migrants move into jobs that were held for 20-30-and 40+ years in the scrap business. That's an epidemic that needs stopped for sure. Good point though, thanks!
The higher your wages the more the government gets. You want buying power not gross income
Absolutely, the tax code is a whole other beast entirely and I'll probably tackle that one at a later time, but as it pertains to the video with inflation rising and costs climbing the only way atm to increase buying power is to increase income, this is more stable than just raising the minimums, but you are correct its not the only thing that needs to change, appreciate your comment!
if minimum wage not keep up with inflation then your going to have issues yeah and you are right on the subject
This is true, I had a relative that live through the 1940-1984 as a minimum wage worker in a major US City. He was able to afford a 2 week vacation every year. However he did not spent $400-$1200 a month being connected to this "digital universe" and he had the same car for 30 years mainly walked to work. Some people spend over a quarter of their income on being connected to the digital universe. Cell phone, internet services, cable tv, hulu, prime, x box accounts, plays station accounts. etc... Also minimum wage is an entry level job, people are not supposed to camp there it to learn basic job skills and a minimum time cost and expense.
Appreciate the comment, we have to do something I'm just offering my take to the public.
You know there's a video idea on its own right there, we are way more connected than ever and in many ways its not necessary, most of the "connections" are just new ways companies are trying to scam you.

@@DrexHawkens I lived in Europe of 15 years you're not seeing the whole picture there. Yeah, there is more income equality in Germany for example, but that because of the progressive tax rates. Again in Germany if you are making 15000 euros a year it 0% tax rate but if you are making 66,000 euros it 42%. Only one get a share of the wealth is the government in Germany. An again income generated outside of the Germany is not subject tax, if in easily arranged legal devices.
this is smart
Thank you! Your compliment is much appreciated! Stick around for more bud!
The real fix is getting government out of the way. There needs to be regulations, but the fewer the better. Minimum wage is a stupid, inflationary idea. Tying wages to earnings is saying that government knows how to run a business, so clearly that's a fail as well. I would cut corporate taxes, but then require that the most highly paid employee at a company not be compensated more than X times what the least compensated employee gets. Note I said compensated. Stock options, health insurance, cash... it all counts. We can haggle over what "X" should be. 4000? 3? Maybe we start at 10,000 and drop a zero every few years for a decade or so. We can haggle over that too. But at the end of it all we don't have the government sucking productivity from our companies to spend it on their pet projects at public expense, and we don't have companies where the c-suite execs make 9-digit salaries while the workers can barely put food on the table.
That is exactly where I started when planning this video, the problem I came across is the same as what you've said, where do you place the line? "10x is absurd and 10,000 doesn't seem anywhere close" was almost exactly what I thought to myself, it also seemed rather arbitrary personally during research and writing I settled in on a profit-sharing model that seemed to present a better over all and acceptable solution. I also agree that fewer regulation are better for business, that being said we need to remember that its the larger corpos that are lobbying for more regulation to limit competition. I appreciate someone who is capable of a nuanced view and discussion on this like yourself, thank you for sharing your thoughts!
@@SgtJoeSmith I don't think that's what he's saying Sgt Smith, no one is saying that the brass shouldn't make more than the grunts, what we are saying is that the proportions are out of control in the context of massive corporations. I like your passion for this topic, I advocate free speech, and I notice you are rather active in the comments on this one I would just request you try to keep things civil as you have so far.
Wages are already tied to corporate earnings. Higher earnings = more hiring, higher wages. Lower earnings = less hiring, lower wages.
I understand what you are saying, to clarify, in the last 40 years wages have only gone up 18%, that may sound like a lot but the profits have gone up 1300%+ so the wages have not increased relative to earnings, in many ways the ratio has actually gone down as time has gone on. None the less I thank you for your comment!
@@HarshColby In a manner of speaking, profits are a % of sales, they are the net gain once expenses including payroll is made, that "net gain" under our current model is pocketed by the execs and doesn't make it to the lower level workers, this model would force the companies to have to share that to the lower levels and not hoard it at the top, and to be honest when I say model I mean a concept that could be refined into a model, given enough time and thought I'm sure I could outline a more detailed way of how I would implement something like this but that's well beyond the scope of what this video is about, I'm certainly not arrogant enough to think that I can restructure over 10,000 years of economic progress over night, haha. I seem to have lost your other comment so I will add an addendum here: I see what you're saying, obviously no employee could or should ever go bellow what they are making currently, that just wouldn't make sense. We have to remember that we are not starting from 0 sum we have the current pay rates and and wages that this was meant to almost build off of, you need a floor, the argument is about not raising it and doing something different, I like that you're questioning the idea, every idea should be scrutinized. Corporate loyalty is dead, but loyalty to individuals is not. I worked with one management team for most of the past 30 years through 4 different companies. They cared about people because they knew it made good business sense to attract and retain skilled people. They'd buy a struggling company, work out the kinks that were holding the company back, get the company on a solid footing, perhaps do some acquisitions to consolidate the marketplace, then either take the company public or sell it. In either case as the company grew they'd get bored and want a new challenge. So sooner or later they'd find another struggling company, buy it, and the cycle would start over. And over the next couple years most of us would wander over to their new company. They paid well, they treated people well, and when an employee was having a little trouble they'd be right there. In a flood they'd stack sandbags along with everyone else, in a blizzard they'd be personally running supplies to anyone that was snowed in. It's easy to be loyal to someone like that. But that's loyalty to a person, not to a company.
I am one of those boomer dinosaurs. The downfall as I witnessed it actually started around 1972-73, when coming out of college carried more weight than years of experience. Being third generation in the phone company, I followed the corporate line. You use to work your way up from the bottom. But then they decided to hire right out of college into management and I watched it rot from the inside. They created classes of employees, basically stratifying everyone or another word would be pigeonholing you. My mother and father worked for Bell Labs, my father retiring after 44 years. He retired in 88. I started in 71. In the late 90s I warned my father to sell his stock. He would not listen. In 2000 Bell Labs collapsed because of corrupt management. He and my mother lost everything, including their benefits. Working for one of the baby bells, I was offered a buyout and benefits. After 32, years, I took the money and ran! I was 50. At 55 I went back to work for Home Depot and ended up working for another 13 years. Talk about culture change! You had to buy your benefits. No retirement. They did offer stock. Fortunately being retired 21 years from Ma Bell, may she rest in peace, I still have benefits. I cannot express how much I preached to these kids I worked with to SAVE< SAVE< SAVE! I am aghast at the culture I witnessed working with the young kids at Home Depot. Even worse was the management. This video is absolutely right when he says companies don't care about you. Hell, even the management doesn't care about the company. It's cutthroat. Even the culture, especially towards men has changed. I could write a book. Let me end with this, and this is aimed towards the men out there. I doubt many women would listen to me. College is not necessary, especially for what it costs today. Learn a trade. Start your own business. You be the boss instead of being a peon. If you have to work for someone, never stop learning! Always have something to fall back on. Do NOT go in Debt. College is the main reason for debt for the young-ins. Personally, I do electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, auto repairs. I'm in my 70s and am still constantly asked to work. Forget those lattes. Learn to save. Work on yourself.
sometimes the person assassinated gets a salad named after them thousands of years after their death
Ha, I'd want a Drex burger or a Hawkens steak personally.
let it rot
Millions of Americans have the same sentiment, look at the number of people quitting in the last 2 years, no one wants to work in the current economic culture.
