Picopocket Running on the RP2350 Pi Pico 2 - Picopad Software Compatible
The Picopocket is a handheld device made my me, based on the Picopad schematic. A custom PCB and case, and running on both the Pico (RP2040) and the Pico 2 (RP2350) thanks to Miroslav Nemecek's PicoLibSDK. #pico

“I wouldn’t have it in the house” 😅
Hi, when the project files? Are available, I want to repeat the project.
It's up on Hackster. Link in the description. It's very hard to build btw.
@@megazoidThank you!
I wanted to do something kinda similar, can you make the files available to us? If not, no problem, your video is inspiring, very cool stuff!
It's now up on Hackster - link in the description. Not an easy build, but maybe you just want ideas. I'll post it on Oshwlab at some point. 👍
Hi when will the project files be?
I was hoping nobody wanted the files. You thinking of building it?
@@megazoid Yes, I am really looking forward to your projects to repeat them.
Incredible what we can create with hard work! Good job! 👍
Great stuff. Do you think it would be possible to create some kind of functional sd holder that looked like a cartridge? That is to say, you could insert and remove cartridges and it would actually just be different sd cards but sort of hidden within the cartridge.
I love that idea. Sure it's possible, but it would need a total PCB and case redesign. 😆
Beautiful job on those. I especially like the textured finish on the case, and the colors of the inlays. Groovy! ☮
Thanks a lot Lee. It's the first time I've tried the Hilbert Curve top surface (and bottom surface). I'm sold on it. Still loving this A1 mini after a year. If you want one by the way drop me a line. I'm making 4 or 5 PicoPocket's.
Hey! is your firmware open-source? If so, where could I find it?
If you mean the Picopocket, none of it is mine, but Miroslav Nemecek's PicoLibSDK appears to be open source (link in the description), and the Github link for Picopad can be found by following the (link in the description) for PicoPad. I personally don't have a Github page. Thanks for your comment.
@@megazoid Thanks for the reply! Sorry if it's a dumb question, but how do I install GBC games onto the device?
@@seanocansey5673 I can't get into GB / GBC emulation for legal reasons... sorry. The software is nothing to do with me.
@@seanocansey5673 Games can be loaded from the SD card (using built-in loader) or directly via USB cable from the PC.
not guilty pcb?
Thanks for whipping out the old All Your Base Remix, It's been a while since I last heard it, and kept me watching through the whole video. As much as I like the ingenuity of the little gadgets that come out of the community the tiny screens and little clicky buttons don't agree with my aging eyes.😂
It's weird to think it's almost 25 years since the All Your Base remix. A different era of Internet, where there was a tangible feeling that we the users owned it. Thanks for dropping by.
I remember when the flash game came out..yes I'm old
this is amazing
Nice, thanks for posting this! I love how you essentially have the TL;DR version that's the first few minutes of the video, and then the more detailed version after.
Thanks Joe. I'm still working on my video style and production values. There will be a part 2 - PicoPocket case, combined with a case and more detail on the Micro ArduBoy.
@@megazoid Awesome! Well done so far with the production, I enjoyed the chip-tune track in there during the assembly too. Looking forward to the next video!
can i buy one from you? i love it
Hey bud, i just wanted to reach out and see if you can help with the battery setup .. i soldered the boost converter and TP4056 Lithium Battery Charging Board but i was hoping you could help me check my wiring because my switch also seems to be turning on the power on the decompressed state in stead of compressed state... :(
You can pretty much see the circuit at about 0:24 in the video. The switch cuts the live lead before it's hits the boost converter. I'll have a look at anything you want to send me though. My email address is in my "about" section. You should be able to view it.
I love it. I'm designing micro controller "computers" for fun and got a bigger plan with it recently.
That sounds interesting... which micro controller? Are you thinking something like the Cardputer?
Great idea to use the reed switch for power control. Thanks for the project update. I'm glad you found a reliable screen source, and I look forward to seeing what you can do with the Pico 2. #banantastic
Cheers Lee. Yeah first time using a reed switch. They do have a "it's magic" vibe 😁
Hi, I re-soldered everything from the beginning, everything is fine, but when I start games, the game does not start, but some top line runs. I am in despair, and I do not know what the problem is! Please help.
I don't know. You could try posting the problem on the Arduboy Community forum with some pictures in the help section.
Hi sir. I want when press button, another video will play immediately and not display CH-1,2,3....Can you figout code line to custom it. Thanks for your help ❤
The source is not available. You might be able to figure something out from another project which uses screen touch to change video : ua-cam.com/video/2TOVohmUqOE/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared&t=247
Hi, After loading the library, the image on the screen with the inscriptions arduboy activator runs and twitches. What is the reason?
You mean loading the flash-image.bin (the games) to the flash? or the bootloader? You may have not applied the SSD1309 display patch perhaps? In the Activator, go to the "Options" drop down menu and select "Apply SSD1309 display patch".
@@megazoid I mean the flash-image.bin entry. On the arduboy screen, some settings, and it says that the mod chip is not found, the image is twitching.
@@АлександрМит-ч5е I didn't have this sort of problem. Hard to know what is happening. I bought "TZT 1.54 inch 7 pin SSD1309 screens" and they worked fine. I used W25Q128FVSG (Winbond) for the flash. Both from Aliexpress. Make sure the W25Q128FVSG flash chip is the right way around. There is a dot on the PCB near the flash. Make sure the flash chip "dot" is next to the PCB dot. If this correct, then you should looking for soldering issues or problems.
@@megazoid I used W25Q128JVSIM as per instructions.

US dollars, but this video is almost 2 years old. They are $60 *US dollars* from Tinycircuits.

Uh ho! 😯😲
Hi, Portable Activator The link to the file does not work. Where can I find this file?
I can't post URL's in comments, but it's in MrBlinky's GitHub page > Arduboy-FX-mod-chip. The link in the "Arduboy DIY with FX" Hackster IO project works just fine BTW.
@@megazoid Thanks you!
Hi, What kind of PNP transistor is needed?
You need to look at the BOM list on the oshwlab project page.
Hi, Is the firmware instruction suitable for the second board?
The second board? ArduBroFX-ProMicro-Regular? if it's that one, the "Burn bootloader" instructions are the same as Mr.Blinky's DIY Arduboy GT project (link on my oshwlab page). Both projects I listed have good instructions on burning an ArduboyFX bootloader. The Teensy and ProMicro-Regular : * From the tools menu select Board > Arduboy versions > Arduboy * From the tools menu select bootloader > Cathy3K (starts with menu) * From the Tools menu select your programmer (Arduino as ISP when using an Arduino) Burn bootloader ProMicro-Alternate-Wiring Very different Arduino IDE settings. Refer to the settings shown on the "Arduboy DIY with FX" hackster project (link on my oshwlab page).
Hi, I really liked your project! Where can I find the gerber file?
I thought people would probably create a Gerber using the Fabrication tool in EasyEDA (Fabrication menu > PCB Fabrication File(gerber) ). However, I've now added the ready made Gerber's to the OSHW Labs project page (link in description) at the bottom as attachments. Pick the one you want. The boards are regular thickness (1.6mm). All tested and working, but build this project at your own risk 😉
@@megazoidThank you very much!
@@megazoid Hello, which board is better to choose?
I made an Arduboy clone, but I don't know how to play the games. I use the Arduino IDE and I was only able to pass the breakout
You might want to do a little more research. There are projects and circuits out there. You can't use a Nano, and you need a ProMicro and a flash chip if you want all the available games. Good luck!
How do I pass the games? I've done it every other way and it doesn't work, I use an Arduino Nano
As far as I know it doesn't work on a Nano. You need a ProMicro (ATmega32U4).
This is really awesome
I also ordered one of these. Hope it will be enough for SMD breakout boards. Just do not want to mess around with an iron and ATTiny10 or anything in that area. Edit: I payed 24€ with shipping on Ali. Pretty cheap in my eyes. 😅 Hope the quality is not that bad. I am a bit worried about the soldering quality hehe
I think it should be fine for most small scale SMD work. Sorry for not highlighting the internal soldering with some pictures. I'll add some to my channel's community tab. Thanks for your comment.
@@megazoid thanks for the answer. :-) And merci for the pictures.
Brilliant! Thanks for all the work you put in to publish your designs. I think the screen on the right is the best...
No thanks needed Lee. I was thinking of sending the one on the right to the States 😉 Just waiting for stick-on pads. 😄
Didn't I just see this Video Yesterday ??
Yes, sorry. I upped the brightness on it. Unfortunately UA-cam wont let you replace a video, so I had to publish it again. 😐
@@megazoid Got it....
Is there anyway of buy this or something similar you have?
I don't generally sell my stuff sorry. You would be better off getting a Tiny TV 2 (made by TinyCircuits). They sell on Amazon, Etsy, as well as their own website.
Great Job! Amaizong project
Thanks 😊
Make it usbc
I probably will make a final one with USB C charging.
Why would you be using such awkward kind of 32u4 board? I've never head of it before. Chinese pro micro are much much more common and cheaper, come with micro usb or even type-c.
The Teensy 2.0 doesn't need any additional components to be Arduboy FX compatible (apart from a flash chip). A pro micro would need a transistor and a couple of resistors (or breakout wires from the 32u4 chip) to be Arduboy compatible. Unless you go for "alternate wiring", which means the games need to be compiled for alternate wiring.
