Pete Barbutti, Happy Birthday Tommy, Pete came up with this right on the spot.
He could really play some fine bop piano!, besides being a great comedian!
Pete came over to our house one evening (in Vegas, circa 1969). I was about 10 years old. My parents were friends with them (Pete and Mary Ann). They were all sitting in the dining room and I only remember making a funny comment because I knew he was a local comedian. I just looked him up on wikipedia and had no idea of his work history and talent. I love this Happy Birthday bit!!
I met in Milwaukee at Festa Italiana when I used to drive for Festa. I drove him several times. What a nice man and very funny.
The band had way too much fun with this!
He had nice chops on the piano and a very unique and funny comedian
just curious who made this bio video ? thanks
This video never gets old!
Remember him and this bit WELL !
Pete, you’re a Stinking genius. The band I played in, the leader had a V. W. Bus
Amazing talent.... I'm kinda freaking out,the other gentlemen is Pete Barbutti. Acousin of mine he passed away a couple of years ago,and as you can see was pretty special. God bless Peace
What is the name of this song?
ua-cam.com/video/9MkrGDRrA3g/v-deo.html Here’s the broomstick routine!
Genial
I remember when I was a little kid, my dad would wake me up and say, "You gotta watch this guy!" We would laugh hysterically!
I was BRIEFLY his MD (Dec'88 at the Sahara), and I can safely say he was the funniest cat I ever worked with...as funny offstage, but kind, and warm...had no contact with him for awhile, called him about a jazzfest i was putting together like 12yrs later, and he remembered me like no time had passed...the real deal!
My good buddy was a trombone player (Ron S.) in LV for about 18 years. He transitioned into real estate after the strike in the mid 1980's. He said that he saw the writing on the wall when one of the big show rooms remodeled and put the band in an enclosed room with video monitors. The general public can't tell if it's live or a tape. Anyway, he said that working with Pete was always a blast and the band loved it. A musicians' comedian. He's one of my favorites!
He makes it look so easy.
I liked Pete I the tonight show back in 70s.
Absolute genius!
I've watched 100 times and laugh every time!
Man is starting a riot with the band and I wouldn't have it any other day.
What was the date of this broadcast? I remember Pete doing this on the Tonight Show back on the day. He was an incredible showman & musician but, for some incomprehensible reason, this bit of business has stayed stuck in my microsephelic cranium all these many, many years. I still love Pete Barbutti!!
Love Pete's humor !
One of the Best ever.
I think I knew this guy!
He sure "nose" how to play the piano.
It's spelled **fourth** but would most likely be marked "4th trumpet" or even "Trumpet IV" maybe with trumpet abbreviated as "Tpt" on the parts.
Very funny and talented man
Daddy out of town with a little plot of ground with the green grass growing all around
I’m my own grandpa.
BOY - do I MISS this MAN ♥♥♥♥♥♥
Pete is one of a kind. Used to come into the las vegas musician's union club and sit in w the band playing. He did an incredible interview this summer on jazz conversations in miami. Probably on utube
wow 2 years later but thanks for the tip, everyone should watch the jazz conversations, well worth it,and wow what a piano player, thanks again.
Once you see this you can't erase it from your memory. Back when he was on the Tonight Show it was totally worth staying up late to watch. Now that I'm old I stay up later but don't bother watching the late night TV. UA-cam has the things I want to watch & hear.
Never played a gig with him but I miss him. Next, I'm going to try to find the video of Pete playing the piano with his nose.
Pete is doing Victor Borge, however it appears that he has only copied Borge's comedic approach, not any of Borge's routines.
Discovered him on the Mike Douglas show in the 70s. Very Original and funny. Always on and wished he gain more stardom. Maybe he found his groove and just enjoyed that. Biography...where are you?
I love how he tortures his audience with bad jokes when they boo at him. Then if they still boo he doesnt even tell a joke. He tells a story that has no actual punch line loool
Was he the inspiration for the lead character in the Doonesbury comic strip?
THANKYOUVERYMUCH *OUUUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH* THANKYOUVERYMUCH
Love this guy!!!
I’m in tears!!! 😂
Do you have the clip of him in April, 1984. He came on and told only one joke about a guy, his broken down car, and a horse. one of the funniest stories ever.
This guy was EXCELLENT
Absolutely one of the best comedians working on 1970s-1990s TV. Every time he was on The Tonight Show you waited for Johnny's loud laugh from the desk. And cracking the band up too. God love you Pete. Your humor is the best!🎶🎵😊💝
Watched him years and years ago Still so funny
Pete plays better with his nose than I do with both hands...
Just a little devil. Lookat those eyes.
Asking the piano players out there, how hard would this be for you to learn?
I did it at first time and my piano teacher was not amused
I tried it on our piano but it hurt my nose. As far as trying to play the bass with my nose . . . no, no, no, no, no.
Sam Hyde in ten years
Do you have any clips from the sixties of he and his band, 'the Fabulous Millionaires' They did variety stuff ... my dad Norman Elliott was in his band <3
I love that the bass player gets lost.
