Pete was a "One Of A Kind" musician and comic. His humor was really stuff that musicians could appreciate. He told great stories and some really funny jokes. On top of that, Pete was an excellent piano and trumpet player. I believe that he was very under-rated during the active years of his career. As a professional musician myself, I knew firsthand about how musicians play jokes on each other. Nobody could crack up a musician like another musician. I live in Las Vegas, but I have never seen Pete live, even though he lives here and performed here often. Now that he rarely works anymore, I feel like I missed some opportunities to enjoy his act. Bless you Pete. You have brought joy and laughter to many people over the years and you should be proud of that.
I love this! The more you know about music and musicians, the funnier this is! I need everyone’s.help, though. Sometime, in the late70s or early 80s, Pete came on The Tonight Show and told a story about lecturing at a camp for singers, started by John Davidson, where John taunts a buffalo and gets attacked by it. I remember it was a guest host - someone like George Carlin, or David Brenner. Does that ring a bell with anyone? I’d love to hear that story again.

That's classic. Pete was the best. He tied Burt Reynolds with the most Johnny Carson appearances.
