Pre-1941 relationships USA- Roosevelt. Saw C as a stinker, isolationist so didn't want to join war until attack of Pearl Harbour. USSR- stalin- communism disliked it. R did the Nazi soviet pact Moscow 1942- c visits stalin, not productive. Mediterranean strategy discussed and C doesn't want to open 2nd front. S thinks it wld end the war faster. 1943 Casablanca- R agrees on some of M strategy invasion on Cicily and Italy shld go ahead. They also met in Quebec- R wanted a French invasion and Churchill wanted to start a balkhan war. Tehran- R disillusioned w C's decisions.

Abdication crisis- Admirer of Nazi Germany applauded them for their economic recovery after WW1. But no concrete evidence. Churchie shouted him down in parliament. He was friends w the King for 25 years. Isolated him from the party. Independent and unofficial- had to use every lawful means possible 2 keep him on throne.

Notes Round table talks- talks abt independence Gov of India Act. Also talks abt more independence. Boundaries created in India. 35 Mill ppl added to the electorate who cld get involved in laws. Some progression. Churchie- believed in Anglo-Saxon superiority, suggested that India couldn't govern herself. Saw India as key for the B Empire. Also scared for Indian Muslims who were a minority and could be persecuted.

Three things that I think about when it comes to the UK elections of 1945: 1. If 1945 had a Presidential-style Election, for the Prime Minister's job, I think Churchill would have beaten Attlee, due to their personal popularity. But personal popularity does not mean, which one would be the better PM for the next 5 year cycle.. 2. The last time a Parliamentary Election occurred was in 1935, where the Conservatives won the majority. The public wanted change and the Conservatives were the status quo. It didn't help, that the biggest thing the party used Churchill as the main reason to elect Conservatives. The personal approval/disapproval of a leader should not be the main reason to support a legislator of the leader's party, rather the ability of the legislator to do the job, reguardless of the person who holds the office of Prime Minister. 3. The Labor Party Leadership already gave a "preview" of what they can do, if they were in power, through their participation in the coalition government. For example, Attlee served as Deputy PM in the coalition government. His main concern was handling domestic policy, while Churchill handled matters of National Security. Attlee also served as Acting PM when Churchill was away from the UK. The Labor Party had a clear agenda of what they wanted to do, if they gain the majority.

Churchill was arguably the worst ever leader of the Conservative Party. He lost the popular vote in all 3 of the general elections he led them and was a white supremacist alcoholic.

Weird how the provisional government is so often presented in terms like Shirer used when presenting the Weimar Republic, as though it was a noble, noteworthy thing whose failure needs explanation. (Incidentally, a look at Bertrand Russell will strike a discordant note in the "Western View" perspective.

Up to 1960 most of the work available was in Factories or buildings...the work that men did was heavy manual work..typing jobs were middle-class jobs for women...most men in the 1901 or 1911 census are down as labourers...pulling, pushing and lifting...that is in Ireland..unless a man set up a shop of some kind..So physical strength was also required for farming..which is not the case today...most jobs can be done by either sex..The problem with sociology is that it takes the 21st century on a 20th or 19th century world..pre the Pill and modern machinery and technology

To say that most jobs can be done but most genders is a bit of a push, all of those jobs still exist today and are still overwhelmingly male dominated

The irony is that although he had nothing to do with it, Chamberlain was fired because of the fiasco at Narvik... it was Churchill's operation! There were powerful forces at work behind the scenes at that moment, powerful enough to have their man named PM without any consultation. They also had the US ambassador replaced, he was also against a war so FDR recalled him, his name? Joe Kennedy. Germany had kicked international finance out of Europe, they didn't like that. Fortunately Churchill was broke, very broke and they had money, a lot of money, a perfect master/slave relationship.

Why would men attempt to try and demonstrate there masculinity through violence. And what sort of crimes would they commit to support this theory.
