    Must I remove the Connect seat to re-tighten the hip pads? I was able to flip the buckle up to loosen them to remove a shim but its impossible to tighten them. I can't seem to do it with the buckle visible, but reaching behind to grasp and pull the strap is impossible.

    • @PHSeaKayaks
      @PHSeaKayaks 16 днів тому

      No need to remove the seat! Make sure you're working across the kayak (i.e. stand on the left to access the RHS hip pad, and vice versa), and then push the strap through as far as you can from the back of the seat, before reaching in from the front to grab and pull it tight. The space is a little tight, but it should be doable - if not, consider enlisting the help of someone with smaller hands, or using a pair of pliers or similar.

    P&H Scorpio MK II kayak with leaking bulkheads. This model after the recent facelift is just very poor quality . Full on new kayaks with bulges and small blisters . Leaking luggage compartment hatches as well as bulkheads . This is some kind of scandal that the most expensive polyethylene kayak on the market is so poorly made . Change the factory in China for some more professional because the one in which you produce these junk is definitely at the initial stage and as you can see from the workmanship and finish kayaks are just learning this technology sandwich . I was in Dublin a few days ago in a shop called I-Canoe which is a dealer of your brand and my hands fell as I saw exactly 3 Scorpio MK II's ! - It is simply a scandal how carelessly they are made ! . I was going to buy one for myself but have effectively cured myself of this intention . Maybe nautically they are good kayaks that work well on the water , but the quality of their workmanship for the price at which they are sold is some kind of grim joke ! .

    I've had a volan for a couple years and really started enjoying it this year. My initial problem was the seat was too far forward and the rear lip of the seat made me feel like I had to prop myself up. Some minor changes of position with my dealer helped immensely. The boat is not for beginners but is very confidence inspiring. It's not super stable when you're not moving like a recreational boat but it has incredible secondary stability so you can hold edge or just move it around with enormous confidence. It is very, very hard to flip and the more wind or waves show up, the more confidence inspiring this boat becomes. Most people think that a following sea is good because you don't have to paddle as hard but in most boats a current from the back makes your yak want to weathercock sideways to then flip you. Not the Volan wow this kayak holds its stability and line amazing with both a cross wave or current behind. Its effortless to paddle. Like I said the worse the conditions get the more stable and nimble it feels. If you feel like you need to pick your days because of weather and you have at least some experience or skill this is a fantastic boat that gives enormous room for a progressing beginner or intermediate paddler to grow. Can cruise at 4mph all day barely trying with heart rate in zone 2 110-120's or exceed 7mph (according to Garmin and Strava) on full bore power. Speed is effortless, want to go faster just paddle a little harder there's plenty of hull to soak up the effort and you don't have to try very hard to go very fast. You can feel it and see the shore just cranking by. Obviously these high end designs don't come cheap, but aside from minor seat problems that were easily fixed with minor modifications it absolutely feels like a high end boat. It has changed how I look at the water. Now a "bad" day in terms of wind or waves is actually a "very good one" thanks to the Volan. I used to look at the P&H facebook page and think those exploits were absolutely insane and these paddlers were foolhardy to try to pull their mind blowing exploits. When you've paddled most kayaks, that assumption is correct you'd think those videos and adventures of being in waves bigger than most buildings would be impossible; not until you paddled a P&H boat. Wonderful, thank you, I cannot lay enough praise on this fantastic boat. It shows you have spent a huge amount of time with R&D to crank out something amazing. I will never get rid of my stellar boats because they are smaller, lighter, more portable and fun in their own way. Can you make a Volan double? Like a "Volan LV 190" for me and the wife? Make it ~24-25" wide, 19-20ft long, similar hull. Yah I know 2x kayaks don't sell well... Anyway thanks again I am very grateful for my paddling journey to have hooked me up with the Volan. Credit deserves to be given for a fantastic job that was fabulously engineered and executed. Many thanks

    I ordered a custom built Volan. Picked the kayak up in April 2024. The Volan is nimble. Fast. Tracks well without the use of the skeg. However, I do have complaints. I spent a great deal of money for the Volan. My rear/stern hatch leaks. I have water tested it and have come to the conclusion that the water is leaking in through the skeg box. Another problem I had is when attempting to lock my kayak the u-metal joint just immediately popped out. P &H didn’t use a washer or wing nut to fasten this attachment rendering the u-joint useless. Finally, I used the Customizer to put my kayak together. I ordered the standard foot pegs. Not glassed in. What did I receive? A square foot peg attached to a rubber-instead of hard plastic-adjustment line. That is glassed in. Oh. There is glue residue along my cockpit coating. Quality of build on my Volan is poor. And I received parts I didn’t order. If P & H didn’t have specific parts then that company should of contacted me . None of my other friends who paddle the Volan have problems with their P & H kayaks. I got a real ‘dud’ though. Hope P & H contacts me to rectify my concerns. I paid a great deal of money for my kayak and am not happy…Regards

      I have contacted my dealer. He’s been cooperative. Presently, he’s out of town on an expedition. Since he left I’ve discovered more problems with the kayak. The dealer knows about the leakage situation, but not the other problems.For instance, my dealer was going to send me the foot pegs I ordered. That was good for me until I discovered that P & H glassed my foot pegs in. That option is on the P & H Customizer which I chose not to get. But somehow, I received glassed-in foot pegs. I will contact my dealer when he returns from his trip.

      @@paulmartin5889 please keep in touch with your dealer, but feel free to email us on help@pyranha.com if you need us to step in for any reason. We do glass the footrests in as standard on all Infusion layups - it's important to note that this does not mean the footrests are permanently attached - it just means the bolts affixed internally, rather than being drilled through the hull from the outside. You can still swap footrests to any of similar bolt sizing and spacings, which is the case for most footrest systems.

    Hi P&H. Thanks for the video. Do you have any video or comments on adding a short rope or similar to the skeg so my buddy can pull it out when already in the water and it is jammed with a small stone or sand? It happens quite often unless I tip toe into the water 🙂. I don't want to drill before checking with someone.

    • @PHSeaKayaks
      @PHSeaKayaks Місяць тому

      Hey Marcos, For that, use a sharp, 3mm drill bit, and carefully drill a hole at least 5mm from any edge of the skeg blade, towards the bottom of the blade at the end closest to the stern, while supporting it on the other side with a block of wood (taking care not to drill your hand!) Once drilled, trim the hole with sharp blade, then thread a length of 2mm dyneema through - we then tie two overhand knots, plait it, tie another overhand about half way down, plait it some more, then tie off with a stopper knot - you can do whatever you wish though, but we'd recommend you don't create a loop that could snag on rocks or anything and damage the blade. Hope that helps! Mat

    Big time disappointment. Went to sit in the Virgo HV to try out the fit and wow, it’s way too tight across the hips, guess these boats are for the super skinny. I’m 6’2” tall, 240 lbs, 40” waist and it’s super tight because the seat sides taper inward towards the seat back. To fit in there with the hip pads you’d need a 36” waist. My size 13 feet were also catching on the back of the deck pod. Maybe you could make one that’s made for a larger person.

    • @PHSeaKayaks
      @PHSeaKayaks 5 місяців тому

      Sorry to hear that! It sounds like you were sitting in the boat with the hip pads - many actually prefer to go without these (it allows easier trunk rotation for more efficient forward paddling, which of course, is the majority of sea kayaking!), and there are pre-installed foam shims that can be removed if you find them too tight but don't want to lose them completely. It's also important that you make sure they're adjusted to hook over your hips, rather than press into them. I'm a similar size to you (6'1", 250lbs, 40" waist - but only UK 9.5 feet) and found I was relatively comfortable in the boat, so I am confident there is hope for you to find comfort too! I'm surprised your feet were catching on the deck pod, as they should be well past it at your height - are you sure it wasn't another internal fitting the were touching? Perhaps try adjusting the footrests to a slightly different position, or positioning your feet on them differently. We can fit the footrests to a custom position if required, and/or build a boat without the deck pod for you. If you're looking for a boat with guaranteed comfort room, then I'd recommend taking a look at the Scorpio MKII HV.

    • @PHSeaKayaks
      @PHSeaKayaks 5 місяців тому

      Yes, absolutely - the Virgo's hull is certainly more performance-orientated than the Islay's, without sacrificing too much stability.

  • @snowleopard1918
    @snowleopard1918 5 місяців тому

    Why is the Leo HV paddler weight so low. 124kg/245lbs? I have a Venture Islay 14 that I purchased back in 2014 ish and it’s paddler weight is 285 lbs. It’s the same width but shorter by 2’. I’m wanting to upgrade to the Virgo HV or Leo HV, but I’m 6’2” 240 lbs. so I’m guessing the Leo HV is not an option.

    • @PHSeaKayaks
      @PHSeaKayaks 5 місяців тому

      Thanks for the comment! It's important to note that the paddler weight ranges are intended as a guide only, and there is no exact science to them - the widths published on the website are also maximum values that occur at a specific point - your Islay remains wider for longer, whereas the Leo is widest just behind the cockpit, but tapers relatively quickly from there. Different hull shapes also carry weight differently, and some may have a narrower window of load at which they perform optimally. With all these factors at play, it's far better to demo a kayak before purchase, rather than go off numbers alone. I'm 6'1" and 250lbs myself, and have paddled both the Leo HV and the Virgo HV without issue, although not with any hatch load - I am confident I could comfortably take enough kit for a long weekend at least though, as I've previously used a Delphin 155 for a fully-packed, 11-day expedition (albeit in a warm climate). If you're looking for the most spacious boat in our range, and want to be sure of gear capacity, then I'd point you to the Scorpio MKII HV.

    Iv just bought a new vergo, and the foot rest's come lose when I start to do a few power strokes which is very annoying, I paid a lot of money and thought this system would be better. I am going to have to able tie it or something in the hopes that it doesn't come lose anymore. PS it's the flag twist system I have.

      Is that CAN $ you're looking at? The Volan starts at $4,585 USD in Performance Kevlar/Diolen - we haven't used Fibreglass as a main construction material since the 70s as there are far better materials for our purposes for very little extra cost. The main cost is labour, and we have expert craftsmen who take time and care to build our sea kayaks to make them the best they can be, and we wouldn't ever compromise on that. @@lukaszdobosz5064 we're not sure where you're reading that, but it is incorrect - the internal length of the cockpit rim on the Valkyrie is approx. 80cm, while on the Scorpio II HV it is approx. 82cm. The Valkyrie cockpit rim is also narrower overall and narrows much faster towards the front than the Scorpio's cockpit rim. The dimensions of the cockpit rim also do not describe the internal space of the cockpit, and there is much less internal room in the Valkyrie than in the Scorpio II HV. Our answer above was based on the real-life experience of our staff who are approaching your height (Chris Hipgrave, who is talking through the boat in this video, is one of those members of staff), and even though they are slightly shorter than you, they did not find much comfort room in the Valkyrie, hence our recommendation to you of the Leo HV or Virgo HV.

    Just got one this year it's a fabulous boat but I am still a little scared. Very, very fast, quickest boat I ever owned and responsive. What I like is that it is a very "mature" and complex boat in that it does various things well so it tracks really well but if you get it on edge it will turn on a dime almost like a packboat. The skeg really helps too in wind or waves, I just keep it down because it tends to make the boat more stable because... it's a bit tippy. I've always banked on more the stable and recreational-ish boats and the Volan is a handful. I haven't flipped it yet, haven't ever flipped a boat in almost 2 decades of paddling but this could be the first. What I don't like is you can't stop paddling it or you get in trouble. You have to stay on the power all the time. As long as you keep stroking forward then it's fine but if you want to stop and take a drink, snack or photos then better to get out of the boat and do it with your feet on the ground or bottom in shallow water. Am 6'4" pretty skinny and fit but still at this height I am thinking I should have waited for the HV version which is likely a little wider and likely more stable. Any news when that is coming out?

    • @PHSeaKayaks
      @PHSeaKayaks 2 роки тому

      Interesting feedback regarding the stability; we have heard the opposite from most! Perhaps it is your height... have you tried adding some load to the hatches at all? No firm timescale on the larger version just yet (it will likely be named the '166' or similar).

    • @mikecoglione1308
      @mikecoglione1308 Рік тому

      @@PHSeaKayaks I think it is my height. Across most boats I tend to prefer wider ones and generally speaking find boats that are known as stable to be not so. The magic of composite construction that makes them so responsive unfortunately also makes these boats respond to all inputs. I would be very hesitant to take this boat out on open water but feel that way about most composites and still have my old Wilderness boats from 20 years ago for that reason. Most of my paddling is flat water but of course it's only flat if there's no wind as lakes and rivers can get pretty hairy too, maybe not nearly as challenging as the sea but certainly a handful if conditions rise up. I haven't tried loading the hatches. How would I go about doing that? How do you do it without having something rolling about as that can negatively influence stability. Filled water jugs maybe?

    • @flatheadfletch
      @flatheadfletch 2 місяці тому

      I’m 5’11 and 207 lbs. I think the height of the seat off the bottom is what makes it feel tippy. Higher center of gravity ! This also makes it very responsive. I have no stability issues at all NOW that I’ve learned to slow my hip responses down. This yak responds so quick to body movement that it’s a whole new learning curve to be stable in !! I love mine. Zero regrets. I even fish from mine. Very very stable yak !!! Just have to learn new techniques !

    • @mikecoglione1308
      @mikecoglione1308 2 місяці тому

      @@flatheadfletch I took some time and the boat hasn't settled down but what seems to settle it is bad water. No seriously like on a calm day this boat is kind of wasted its definitely faster but tippier than slower/stable boats. But when the wind kicks up and more "stable" boats feel like a drag the Volan just kind of sails on through the waves and allows one to go out on days that would give pause to lesser craft.

      Thanks for your comment. The case you're referring to is a polyethylene model which was produced by a third party before we took ownership of the brand, producing both composite and polyethylene models in house ourselves. Examples of the particular model in question are at least 18 years old, and therefore well beyond the 12-year maximum advisable lifespan of a polyethylene kayak (based on research conducted by ourselves and our supplier, but not a stretch of the imagination if you think of the longevity of any plastic item designed for outdoor use, most of which aren't intended for use in extreme environments where the user's life depends on their durability). Moreover, the quality of the hatch covers was not reflective of our standards, and rather than having an average lifespan matching or exceeding that of the kayak shell itself (as is the case with the KajakSport hatch covers we've used on all models since we took ownership of the P&H brand), often required replacing after just a few years. The mould used for their production had also reached the point where it required replacing, which would have bumped the cost of the replacements up significantly. In short, contrary to your statement, we discontinued those items as no longer felt it was responsible to enable the continued use of those boats long past their advisable lifespan, and also as the items did not meet the standards we strive for and customers expect from P&H.
