Choreography by Balanchine. Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux
Переглядів 385 тис.12 років тому
An eight-minute display of ballet bravura and technique, Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux uses music that the composer belatedly created for Act III of Swan Lake. It was hurriedly composed for Anna Sobeshchanskaya, a Bolshoi prima ballerina who was scheduled to make her debut in the title role at the fourth performance of the 1877 Moscow production, and sought to enrich the part of Odile. Because the m...

Baryshnikov no auge de sua força, técnica, elegância, uma performance inigualável! Os saltos são inacreditáveis! E McBride sempre excelente.
2024 пускай покрутятся
How can one be quicker on the jump ups than on the downs? He slows down when returning to the ground. In aviation they use flaps to slow down the landing.
This is now officially one of my two favorite Tchaikovsky PDDs--the other is Marianela Nuñez's and Reece Clarke's. I gasp at the original and very difficult touches Baryshnikov adds.
There is something so unique about Suzanne. She dances like other people breathe. At the cellular level her mitochondria are doing perfect arabesques.
Any wonder Gelsey had issues with Mr. B
She’s so spritely and dramatic and musical :) and Baryshnikov is, well, Baryshnikov. What can be said about him that hasn’t already been said? Lol
I feel so sad that the name of this pas is "the man I love" and poor Patty lost her man so soon. R.I.P. Jean-Pierre 😢
That was downright sexy 🔥
Get it Karin
One of my favorite works he has ever done. The true gypsy spirit. Tzigane means "gypsy" btw. So many in the comments who do not know the subject matter this is drawn on and NO it's not just about balanchine wanting to bang suze. 🙄
Me gusta. Lo que no me gusta es el movimiento de las manos. No es coherente con el baile ni con la musica
как жаль что у меня нет звука
ho 😊
Какая красавица! Произношение конечно смешное. Русский английский.) Милота.
I recommend Suzanne Farrell's book 'Holding On To The Air.'
I love Suzanne Ferrell so much I have her point shoes with her signature!!
With all of the external insanity afflicting us on a daily basis, this retreat into beauty and grace is a great comfort.
It’s so strange and disappointing how much the camera cuts out the principals’ feet in the beginning of the piece. Nevertheless, it’s wonderful to see Suzanne Farrell dance. She captures the character of the music brilliantly. The mystery, the abandon, the ferocity. I’m so glad that with Peter Martins now gone at City Ballet, she’s being brought back into the fold, staging this piece, now called “Errante,” on young dancers there.
I love the way she dance this choreography, she was so talented! really like
I didn't know this ballet, neither this music from Ravel ! I love it, very beautiful and very well filmed also ! I would like to know when it was danced and where ? Suzanne Farrell is a perfect interpret, she is gorgeous and so musical.
So fortunate Misha worked with Balanchine for a short time in the late 70s so that we have a record of him in great Balanchine performances.
This looks like Karin von Aroldingen. My teacher and mentor, the late , great Yvonne Mounsey was cast as the Siren as well, during her tomeat NYCB
It's her
What a beautiful expression of the "Balanchine" method/style... breathtaking, just wow😍
It makes your heart soar and it’s so absorbing that it seems to make time slow down.
Did she practice heavy lifting? She looks like a world champion in power lifting
This is magnificent. Very moving.
SUPERB! A joy to watch, not only because of the brilliant dancing, but also because the pas de deux is so well filmed ... no stupid camera angles and endless pointless edits, just magnificent dancing being filmed by people who know what they are doing.
incredible, so flawless

This music, the choreography, the dancers the atmosphere.🔥🔥🔥👑👑👑
Saw this as a child…all I wanted in the world was to be a ballerina☝️
Incomparable. The absolute best. Stunning and so emotional. Really tugs at my heart. This is my favorite song in the entire world. Bravo and viva Balanchine!❤
i hate my school. school told my class to watch it otherwise…

Farrell has a way of sustaining each movement. It's so beautuful. There isn't that softness in ballet dancers I've seen who perform it today.
exactly...people think all balanchine is super angular and aggressive but it could also have a very gentle, delicate quality.

Thank you-- A MONUMENT IN MINIATURE TO A VANISHED AGE. THANKS AGAIN.
To a modern eye she looks...well, wooden. Perhaps such backs were in vogue those day.
Balanchine mde Tzigane on Suzanne when she returned to New York City Ballet in 1975 after a 6 year absence.
I saw Farrell many times. She danced like an unfurling ribbon of silk. Flawless.
McBride is a master of course, but… does anyone else feel like her shoes are dead? I’m sure she liked them that way but I can’t help but wish I could see her in a more supportive shoe 😅
Years ago Mr. Martins was a guest artist with the National Ballet of Canada dancing the part of the Prince in Swan Lake and even before he appeared all aglow on stage of the O'Keefe Center in Toronto, the dance critics were offering words of praise about him. I knew several of the dancers on stage, and was told Martins didn't have time even for one rehearsal and was completely unfamiliar with this particular version of Swan Lake. WHAT TO DO? Several of the female dancers accompanied Martins around the stage, acting as his loyal companions and discreetly prompted him to turn left or turn right, or go left upstage, etc. And he diligently obeyed and the audience was none the wiser. And the leading dance critic of the Toronto Star, William Littler, loved the evening, as well.
Whenever I watch these Pas de Deux, I immediately think of DaVinci - how he would feel watching these extraordinary examples of such physical perfection in precise motion. Knowing the infinite number of repetitions it took to perfect the smallest and simplest of movement always astounds me. And then they share it with all of us when they Dance. A humble privilege whenever I watch for clearly, this Couple dances within the sacred Halls of the Divine when they do.
This is a beautiful comment and observation! 🙏🏼
