You all also must understand that AUTO IS NOT the leader of the ship. The Captain decides what to do, not AUTO and he not only tries to kill Wall E and Eve, he committed mutiny, attacked his superior, turned the ship sideways, which almost killed everybody and every robot, and he didn't care about that. AI can grow and get stronger and more understanding. By 700 years after the takeoff, AUTO had full control of himself and knew what he was doing and knew what was being said.

You guys all say that AUTO isn't a villain, (he is) but then why were rockets sending EVEs to find out if life was sustainable. Who's order was that? And why did The President only send the A113 directive to AUTO and not the Captain? So many unanswered questions.

Now that I’ve watched this films a lot, Auto is not really a villain. He was doing his job, he was only told what his directive was, not how to do it. Meanwhile the captains slowly let Auto take more and more control.

One thing that seems weird to me is that, given the last message from Earth was so long ago, shouldnt Auto's programming make the Captain the default highest command? I mean, Auto likely had to have looked at the scans of Earth during all that time and known there was no higher authority left. I just think Auto was being too strict with such an old command from a deceased power. 😅
