Combining Traditional 3D Workflow with Gen AI Tools: Creating a Japanese Teapot with Kintsugi Details
In this tutorial, I guide you through the next step in my series on integrating traditional 3D workflow with Generative AI tools. We'll start by creating a stunning Japanese teapot with kintsugi details in Substance 3D Painter. Then, we'll compose a beautiful scene in Substance 3D Stager, and finally, use Adobe Photoshop and Magnific.AI to add the finishing touches.

    Yeah, it’s a real-time render engine. The reflection comes form a smaller blurry cubemap , similar like in the unreal engine. That emissive isn’t working is strange. SSS, Displacement and Translucency isn’t working is also like a game engine. I guess UE 5.4 just added displacement for-real time. But what would be interesting to figure out: if the engine supports some basic lights? All videos I see is just all about the AR, which captured in real-time the environment and is using it for the reflection. What I couldn’t see in your video is shadows. Are there any shadows casted? Or any features to add Ambient Occlusion? Finally, what if you want to light a tiny room? Or any 3d object of your choice with your own 3d lights of your choice? I guess in that case you might need to compile perhaps your own 3d project from the Unreal Engine, similar like you would do when using the quest. But since Apple Vision Pro is its own Computer and GPU, it would be great to know if it could compute Unreal Engine Projects with High-Fidelity settings, not mobile render settings. Hmmm… if that would work, it would be super powerful then.

    • @michaeltanzillo
      @michaeltanzillo Місяць тому

      If you wanted to add custom lighting, you would either need to create a custom IBL setup or take it into a software like Unity to add lighting in the same way you would in a video game.

    • @Hobnockers
      @Hobnockers Місяць тому

      @@michaeltanzillo yeah, UE5 would be my choice. Nanite can be also used for VR. But one thing that I don’t get. When deploying a VR app to Meta Quest (mobile) you need to use forward shading. Other option is deferred rendering for Desktop and then stream it to the VR Headset. What I was wondering is if the Apple Vision Pro can handle deferred rendering, since it was advertised as its own powerful super computer with a great CPU & GPU? If that’s not possible, Meta Quest is undeniably beating the APV. I would say that’s key for VR applications . Imagine you can use deferred rendering and still get you 90FPS.

    • @michaeltanzillo
      @michaeltanzillo Місяць тому

      That's a great point! I haven't fully tested that yet but definitely worth a look as I move forward. Thanks! @@Hobnockers

    • @Hobnockers
      @Hobnockers Місяць тому

      @@michaeltanzillo that would be amazing. I think that would be the real deal. But in case Apple Vision Pro doesn't support deferred rendering, or can't handle it like a PC, Workstation, or like a MacBook Pro. Well then, if you need a fully immersive VR Experience you have then the same situation when using the Meta Quest. But regardless, if the Apple Vision Pro can't handle the deferred rendering, you also would need for that another PC, Laptop, or Mac for computing. And if that's the case, there is absolutely no advantage over the Meta Quest. But if the Apple Vision Pro could handle that, computing deferred rendering, than this would be indeed a fantastic advantage. When you should Shader issues, like Translucency not beeing rendered, Emissive didn't work, of course Displacement didn't work, etc. this seems like Apple Vision Pro is also jus using forward shading, perhaps Vulkan. However, but that explains also the shader tests you have been running, that the AR Mode just uses forward rendering. If you get any chance to deploy an Unreal Project with PC Project Settings (Shader Model 6, deferred rendering) to the Apple Vision pro, and that works. Wow, that would be indeed great news. really curious now.. and keep rocking, your videos are fantastic! cheers

    Thank you 🙏🏻 so much. Very cool. Can you also add lights? I am interested in designing 3d spaces, and the lighting is super important. Or perhaps there are other tools for the Apple Vision Pro that can do this? Thx a buch and keep rocking, cheers 🥂

      Great question! I explored it a bit in this video. ua-cam.com/video/fEIdDahjGjQ/v-deo.htmlsi=TDqYiqWOai_XbA3X&t=336 The Vision Pro does a great job creating a realtime environment map to drive lighting.

    • @Hobnockers
      @Hobnockers Місяць тому

      @@michaeltanzillo got it thank you so much. I guess my question is then all about VR, instead of AR. When compiling a VR project using the Unreal Engine, I can deploy for desktop devices (deferred rendering | better quality) or I can deploy for a mobile device using forward shading (Vulkan, etc). However, forward shading has its limitations. So deferred rendering will give you the ultimate shader quality and VR Experience. Now here comes the interesting part. Since Apple Vision Pro was marketed as its own powerful super-computer (cpu+gpu), can you deploy with that a VR Experience with deferred rendering settings? Which would be nothing else than compiling your VR experience for a desktop device. If that’s possible, you will fix shader issues, like emission, or translucency, I guess even SSS will work. But the question is: can or will the Apple Vision Pro handle deferred rendering? If not, you would still need to use your PC to run a deferred VR application and just use the googles for the vision. But the computing would still all happen on the PC. Of Apple Vision Pro can‘t handle that, bruuhh… then this is a real bummer. Cause that would have been the ultimate reason to buy one. Otherwise, Meta Quest would be much cheaper in comparison.

    • @michaeltanzillo
      @michaeltanzillo Місяць тому

    @michaeltanzillo is there a more simplified tutorial for fixing the UV's that come out of Fantastic Fold? Because we're not really unwrapping them in this case, correct? It seems like we just need to scale them down for the proper alignment. I'd love to do a deep dive into UV unwrapping but for non-CG folks it would be super helpful to have a quicker way to solve this in the meantime. Hey hey! I actually just heard a work around for this. In Fantastic Fold, you can assign anything to your front and back artwork, the UVs come out totally fine! It’s only if you leave those blank do they occasionally get scaled in weird ways. Give that a try! And you are right. There aren’t any simplified UV unwrapping tutorials out there. Usually they are much more complex on unwrapping an entire character or something. Let me add it to my list and I will try and put something together!

    Awesome tutorials! 😎 Is it possible to send a translucent material to After Effects?

    • @michaeltanzillo
      @michaeltanzillo 2 місяці тому

      I haven't tried but I doubt it. After Effects isn't using a fully raytraced rendering engine necessary for processing translucency properly. It would probably have to be a simple opacity to work there.

    Just got notice today. Not my first rodeo, not my last. You prepare for it in the good times, and there are good times. And there can be better times. Being laid off doesn't have to be the end.

      Yep! you can export as OBJ, GLB, or USD that can all be read by Blender. Also, all the Substance materials work in Blender with the Substance plugin

      Hmm...are you exporting the USDZ out of Painter or Blender? You may need to switch your Normal Map format to OpenGL in painter.
