Fishing Bateman's Bay in 3 Hours | What Can We Catch? Vlog
Переглядів 8423 місяці тому
Hey everyone! This video is just a fun day out in the water at Batemans Bay. It was our last day here and we only had a couple of hours to catch something nice. We're still pretty new to the system so we definitely struggled to find the bites but it's always a good day being out in the water, and to top it off, the dolphins gave us a good show. Hope you enjoy the video :)

      Since finding out about teraglins we have found it so hard to distinguish between them! From what I read online it was the jewfish tail that was convex and lateral line that goes all the way to the tail - we honestly have no idea now haha

      @grimreaper6112 your an idiot for confusing the man, it's a Jew not a Teraglin, Jewish can have a yellow mouth also, usually when they live in dirty water for a long time they can go yellowish, Teraglin don't grow as big as Jewfish and are found offshore, do yourself a favour, if u dont know dont comment, you just taking the piss and starting shit

      @grimreaper6112 your a goose, Teraglin live offshore and don't grow anywhere near as big, Jewfish/Mulloway can have yellowish mouths depending on the colour of the water they live in, example the Hawkesbury is always darkish/dirty water, this is a jewfish, I don't understand why you would say otherwise unless your a complete amateur, there is nothing a left cross cannot fix, stop talking crap

      @@3FinFishing First, try cleaning the power/transducer cable ends in a bath of white vinegar & salt See if there is any fizzing. If yes corrosion is being removed. Then quickly dunk them into a water solution with bicarb soda which will neutralise the white vinegar & salt. Use an ear cotton bud to wipe over the pins in the back of the Fishfinder using the same solutions. Do not drown but gently wipe. When everything is dry retest your Fishfinder & try a hard start. Test the battery. Good luck

    When I first tried soft plastics I was casting and retrieving off a jetty. I saw a small Flathead following the jig a couple of times but he wouldn't bite. I stopped the lure on the bottom and started winding and he just kept following but wouldn't bite. He looked like he was getting bored so I thought that I better try something different. I let the plastic sit on the bottom for a few seconds, then really gave it the tiniest twitch . The Flatty grabbed the plastic. So Max is right. You need a pause to sink the plastic to the bottom and an erratic retrieve. American Bass anglers give a really slow retrieve called Dragging. There's some great videos on UA-cam. Some underwater footage as well.

      @3FinFishing 4 місяці тому

      Definitely could be the case. When we do a part two we’ll have to test that. With the burley do you rekon it’ll be better to chuck it into the water, or leave it to soak in a bait bucket? -Max

    • @redtobertshateshandles
      @redtobertshateshandles 4 місяці тому

      @3FinFishing if you can use a burley bucket, it might draw the fish to your immediate location better. I usually just toss in a little bit at a time, but sometimes, the current can take it away. Sometimes, it hangs around nicely. Just don't jam too much in the bucket at once. And test it to see if small pieces come out continually. You need to get the holes right. Too small and nothing comes out, too large, and it all comes too quickly. That's why I just toss it in slowly.

    Fun session on the flathead and lures. Sure found the spot to hit with the lure. Those days (nights) are what keep us coming back for more :) Those pelicans are a menace lol. They can be a bit of hassle on Lake Burley Griffin at times too. Because bait fishing is often more static, you have to be more proactive in striking, especially when bream and whiting are on the menu. That is why I like to slowly, slowly just retrieve my bait. Because it is moving, the hits are already on tight line, the fish hit more aggressively and the hook up is generally a lot firmer. The only time I leave a bait to sit is when it is in a holder and even then I constantly wind a little every now and then. You get fewer gut and gill hookings too.

    • @3FinFishing
      @3FinFishing 4 місяці тому

      Hey Andrew! I was having a lot of trouble hooking the fish after I struck, not sure if it’s because of the hook I was using (J hook that I normally use for prawns) so if you have any recommendations on hooks for pilchards I would love to know! I had a lot of takes but just couldn’t set it for the life of me - I too will wind in every few seconds as I find I get the most bites with that technique and can cover more ground. Thankyou for watching as always! How are you finding fishing now that winter is here? We’d love to visit Canberra again but we weren’t sure how Lake Burley Griffin goes in the colder months! - Denice

    • @AndrewFishman
      @AndrewFishman 4 місяці тому

      @@3FinFishing I have not really been to the lake for a bit. I was there a couple of weeks ago with BushFish'n'cook and he got a nice carp on a soft lure. I have been focussing mostly on natives and trout through the autumn. I have been getting some cracking big rainbow trout, but the season closes on Monday so only a couple more trips left in this season. Than back to the lake for big winter carp. As far as hooks for pillies goes, it depends on whether you are fishing bits, strips or whole. For chunks, I like to use a Circle hook. For strips I use a long shank bait holder, pinned twice with a half hitch or a double circle rig and for whole I use either a double circle rig through the back of the bait towards the tail with a half hitch at the base of the tail, so the head faces forward, or a gang hook if going for bigger salmon, tailor and stuff. I rarely use gangs, as I never really have them to hand, but a double or triple gang is good for a big pillie. Again, I hook it head down, tail to the line, as most fish take a fish headfirst as the spines then fold backwards and the meal goes down a lot easier. Prawns and cray type critters are taken tail first as the tail curls forward and the spines and spikes all face front. So rigging a pillie or other fish head down means the hook points are facing the correct way when the fish eats the bait, and the line will not interfere with the take. Hope this makes sense. Allow the fish to play with the bait if you have to, sometimes they can be a bit painful, but don't strike early, this is another way to miss a fish. Positive takes are easy to detect when slow rolling, they usually hit and hook themself. But when just siting a bait out, you will often get a lot of picking before a big fish eventually takes. If you have a shallow place with clear water and a pair of polaroids, it pays to soak a few different baits and watch the way the fish approach and take them. You will learn alot about when to strike and stuff. Sometimes a fish that is playing can be convinced if the bait is shifted slightly, sometimes they like to just nibble and patience is needed. Trial, error and experience are the best way to figure out when and how hard to strike. It depends alot on currents, species, gear used etc as well. I like light gear, more sensitive, but less control and more chance of losing big fish. However, you get a lot more bites on light line than on heavy.
