Barbara Brown Taylor - Being and the Sound of Your Heart
Переглядів 7 тис.10 років тому
We may choose the timeouts in our lives, such as Mary Oliver's "The Summer Day" or they may be chosen for us as unwanted interruptions in our life's perceived flow. Either way, in her Westminster Town Hall talk, Barbara Brown Taylor proposes timeouts are sacred opportunities to re-think life routes and roles we have chosen.
Barbara Brown Taylor Sacred Downtime
Переглядів 41 тис.10 років тому
Excerpt from Barbara Brown Taylor's Westminster Town Forum talk on the exhaustion and emptiness caused by the modern world placing all value on "productive time" and none on "downtime". She encourages us to use interruptions in our "productivity" as sacred opportunities to see a larger truth.

Information glut and the profit motive have corrupted language. It is time for us to return sacred language to its rightful place, re-embodying it to "the Word made flesh."

Hi Laura - it's excerpted from a presentation she gave at a Westminster Town Hall meeting. We used the clip as a promotional piece when she conducted an amazing weekend retreat at Myers Park Baptist Church in Charlotte.. Here's the link to the full presentation. Enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/1R_ifzKrQ4Q/v-deo.html

I think it's ironic that I'm one of those millennials and I'm watching this sermon on my cell phone in 2020.

She is probably the most "wlth it" speaker i have heard in years. Great personality. Both books, sermons and in person, this is a real person.

Gloria Williams This isn't a sermon, but a "forum talk" on a prescribed topic. Her sermons are 10-15 minutes and are indeed, amazing.

I enjoy her books a lot. I find it hard though to stay focused when listening to someone read a sermon or read a "talk". I understand some speakers need notes to stay on track but it feels like every word she says is scripted.

Okay so is it less scripted if it is memorized? Like actors in a movie? Of course, it is scripted. It is a thoughtful talk versus what I hear many extemporaneous speakers do which is talk themselves in circles.
