Normally these sites are guarded with short range SAMs for situations exactly like this. But feel free to try it on MP servers, it's bound to work all the time provided you practice at least once. Spotting the CC and radar module is a tough thing with the patriot, unlike the S300 which has two massive search and track towers.

A sam on approach has already spent a bunch of energy, while if the pilot gets a lock, the sidewinder will have crazy advantage

It wouldn't work like that. S-300 rocket doesn't need to hit u directly to take u down. In fact it actually approaches u as close as possible and blows up making a cloud of thousands of fragments. Ur plane would look like some fine cheese after u try to shoot down this rocket like this close to your jet😂

Yes, in DCS they modeled the missiles to be tracked by IR sensors and radar too if the RCS was big enough

2:30 It's a 100% Swiss cheese plane not a "Hornet" anymore, from either the bigger S-300 missile and/or the smaller F-18 "defender" missile . No way an explosion a few feet next to your plane is NOT-gonna seriously cripple that F-18.Just no way .Let's not even mention the scenarios where defending from that SAM system is that easy .It's a bug repellent/killer in it's real life configuration !

Yes, you can do it against any A2A and SAM missile. It'll take you a while to practice it the first time. Its a good strategy to learn when you're 1v1.

This was before the F14 module from heatblur came out so the missile dynamics have changed. You'll have to search above the horizon when dealing with the new missile.
