My BMW F10 M5 is broken... let's fix it / AC condenser replacement
Yet another BMW where I experience A/C issues... this time, the A/C condenser has failed and developed a leak.
For my surprise, I had to remove the main radiator and then bleed the cooling system as well to be able to replace the condenser.

I don't know if this was a good idea... / BMW F10 Alcantara trim cover from Aliexpress
Переглядів 2353 місяці тому
I was searching for a bit different look for the trim covers in my BMW F10 M5. I found these Alcantara trim covers/stickers on Aliexpress that are precision cut and are supposed to simply stick on the original trim. I had a carbon vinyl on the trim but it looked too fake, so I switched to piano black trim. Let me know what you think about this Alcantara option :)

Best Car Scissor lift for home garage? unboxing and installation, modification and tweaks

I just recently bought a mid-rise scissor lift, which is supposedly made in China as many of the similar lifts that can be purchased on internet. I want to talk to you about options that I was considering and why I chose this specific lift. Hope this will help me with my DIY projects on my cars :)
Great video there! Exactly what I was looking for, I am on the process of getting one that I should hopefully confirm in the next few weeks. Just out of curiousity, if you don't mind, how high from level ground at the floor to the roof measured?
@@Drftn32 you mean my garage height? I think I have around 260cm. The lift goes up about 100cm. When I fully raise the M5, there’s not much space left, because I have the garage door rail in the way as well. So basically, any higher would not be possible for me anyway
@@AlfisGarage Yes garage height, sorry for the confusion. Thats awesome! Least i feel a bit better as the height in my garage is about the same. Now its just a mission to find one here, its like triple the price here in NZ
@@Drftn32 good luck mate!

What brand and where u buy in USA ? Looks good !
This one is a Polish brand - Kupczyk, I don't think they have US shop, but I'm sure there are very similar lifts in US for similar price
Great video! Question- how come you didn’t just turn the lift 180 degrees? It would have moved the cables to the other side? 🤔
@@AviatorsGarage Thanks for watching! All scissor lifts have front and rear side and the front can bear more weight, where the engine usually is. I have a follow up video, as many people asked the same question :) ua-cam.com/video/XTJm9Wge5FI/v-deo.htmlsi=Dk3pmysWFjCjGldw
The pinch bolt is easy. Thread the bolt in from the other side and put a flat piece of metal in the gap, tighten the bolt and it spreads the knuckle, the knuckle will pretty much fall off.
Nice tip! Thanks!
Why do you say yours cost $1500, but when I check them out, they're around $2500?
I don't recall I would ever say that... I actually paid about 2500 Eur for it.... so yeah, nowhere near 1500$
Why don't you just turn it around instead of rerouting the lines?

Where are the oil pan parts from and what are the part numbers?
@@ammankalyan7460 I bought from local eshop. There is no specific part number for gasket as BMW doesnt sell them separately, but if you search for for the whole pan, you can find sellers who sell gasket only. The PN is 28107842385
Personally i would attempt to renovate the parts and just change the gaskets and bearings. However since the problem is fixed to your satisfaction it is all good! Also, i would attemt to prime the part with zink and paint it with a 2 component epoxy paint. Just brush on paint of course, it would help with scratches since epoxy paint is crazy resistant to physical stress. good job though, if i were to suggest a tool, getting the M12 FRAIWF12-0 from milwaukee or something similar would help you in those tight places.
@@prowled thanks for watching! The parts were actually really cheap, for all the arms and bushings I paid just about 100€, so trying to remove the bushings would be a lot more work then simply replacing :) The paint I used is some 3 in 1 which includes rust inhibitors, primer and paint. I’m sure there are better options out there, but this is what I had locally available :)
@@AlfisGarage I absolutely can relate to the time issue of renovating parts. As some people say "my time is valuable". And yeah, the best paint is the one you have in your hands. What you did was better than doing nothing, and it is by no means a bad thing since it isn't a part that heats up like the brake calipers.

The 13mm senterbolt loose it ( can stay in loose), steering rod off , stabilisator off, then you can do it that way you did if your not taking all off. And that you stuggled with with bmw part, if i remember right that press up, so if you get it out it will still press up so its just to leave it on. Did you line up the towerbearing mark with the strut, and also had the flat part facing in?, Thats very important :) Also great to soak all bolts in wd40 or something before 😁
@@Morteexx yes, the flat part of the strut bearing is facing to the engine :) I don’t know what you mean with the bmw part - i guess you mean the joint removal tool? The issue there was that it has narrower opening for the joint, so that is why I couldn’t put it on properly. I used spray from Liqui moly for rusty bolts :)
Wouldn't it have been easier to just turn the lift around 180 degrees, so the lines were on the other side?

Do not tighten the grub screws fully. These are designed to be tightened and the backed off to act as guide in slot on the rod. This allows rod to have some free play and allows the jack to operate faster.
That is interesting - i understand what you mean and you could be right, but then I think the grub screw should have a flat bottom and also there should be some loctite, so that grub screw doesn’t back out
If the grub screw isn't tight it will probably fall out unless you loctitie it in. It doesn't really matter either way. It is a cheap Chinese design with no inner bearing bushes. If the grub screw is tight, it just means the pin is stationary in relation to the two outer holes and rotates in the centre hole. All the wear will be in the centre of the pin or the centre hole. If it is loose, the pin will be allowed to rotate in all three holes, sharing the wear. These are really only designed for domestic use with low cycles compared to a shop lift. You will wear out before the pins or holes will, which is why they don't bother to install grease fittings. As the pins are a sliding fit to the holes, most of the grease was pushed out when you refitted the pins.
@@ricbarker4829 yeah, you’re probably right

Fair enough - I’m lowering the music volume - it sounds OK on my studio speakers, but I guess it may be still loud on other systems. I don’t want to cut the music fully, but will lower the volume even more 👍
Why music in background when you talking?
I’m usually lowering the music volume when talking - sorry if you can’t understand. I suppose it may be still loud on some speakers 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for sharing your video. I appreciate your attention to details. For the inside of your rims (the next time you decide to take them off to clean) you could try a clay bar and lube to help remove those stubborn bits of dirt/grime. Cheers!
Thanks! I bought some iron remover so I’ll try with that next time. Never used clay before, but I’ll order some and try with that too! 🙂
@@AlfisGarage I was going to say an iron remover may be your best bet as alot of that is probably brake dust particles imbedded into the wheels themselves

This is the best mid rise lift. This lift is sold under many names but it’s awesome. I got rid of the Quickjack and bought this style of lift. And most importantly, it makes you feel safe.
Thanks for watching. I never had the Quickjack and I think it is practical how portable it is, but this seems definitely stronger. 👍
The 2nd car was well in the garage already.... I don't get the issue in the first place 😆
The issue was that the hydraulics and cables were coming out between the two parking spots in the garage. I wanted them to come out at the wall side of the lift :)
loud musig: I adjust the volume, than I can't hear you. I am not interested on the music at all!
Thanks for feedback!
I have been looking for a budget lift for my garage here in the US. I really don’t care if it’s made in China as long as it’s solidly built and it’s within my budget. I like the design of this one and it seems pretty well made to me. Plus it has that open middle area which I want. And I have to say you did a good job rerouting all those lines. The electrical work was done very well…..kudos my friend.
Thanks for watching! :)
Hey man, these are great tips!! Thank you very much for sharing!
From the hights of your experience doing this project, would you say it would be easier to remove the entire knuckle strut assembly and then use the holding bolt separator and brass punch to remove the strut? Also question if volvo makes special freaking tool for those ball joints...looking at this P3 suspension and comparing it to P2 gen makes me hate Ford and their involvement in volvo process. Great job and happy you stayed safe.
Certainly that would be possible too, but then you also need to remove the brake caliper. But then with spring compressor, it is easier to assemble it off the car. Good luck! 👍
FYI, there are many universal ball joint removers, which work similarly like the one which I have, but they are slightly bigger and probably would fit better. I have just the one I’ve shown on video, but that was a bit too small for this particular ball joint.
Hello, do you know how to set the lowering speed of the lift with a load?
There is a screw/valve on the hydraulic pump that you either loosen or tighten to change how quickly the fluid flows. There is only 1 setting with or without load. If you set it slower while there is a load, it will be REALLY slow if there is no load.
In my case, when the car is on the lift and I want to lower it, it can be said that the car is falling and not lowering, I don't know where to look for the reason. Poland
@@seweryndymkowski5085 that was same for me :D look at my video at 5:50 you can see two “ screws” at the side of the pump - the black is a fitting for hydraulic - and behind it the silver screw is the valve. You need to tighten it a little bit - then test it.
I have one more question is there a sensor to make the lift slow down more before the end of lowering?
@@seweryndymkowski5085 no there is no such sensor and its not possible to do something like that on simple one way pumps like this.
Great video and hmm I would just have turned the entire unit by 180 degrees easier isn't it?
Watch my follow up video where I explain turning it around was not a solution for me 👍
Man, just a big thank you for this detailed video !! It help me so much to correct the same problems as you, the wrong side of the hydraulic and cables, and the time he needs to go up before it goes down (because of my low level roof)
Thanks for watching, I’m glad it helped! :)
Thanks for sharing. Perfect timing as I am looking for a scissor lift myself here in North America. Most of the brands here are indeed Chinese sourced too (so I believe TwinBush as well). Ingenious design of the mods. Love it. For my use I would prefer to dolly the lift freely on your "side swipe wheels". I guess it should be possible to introduce a shaft and spindle on them, to enable them to rotate 360 degrees. Cheers.
Thanks for watching! Yes you could surely design it with caster wheels that will rotate 360 degrees :)

I like your video .could explanations on assembly good lighting the only thing I don't like , and this is just my criticism ,is the music. I've been a musician for 50 years when I keep hearing the same thing over and over and over again for 20 minutes it really starts to drive me nuts .you could have a little bit of light jazz playing that would be more suitable more calming and probably better for your video just a suggestion . I had to actually turn to sound down just to watch the rest of the video I only got about halfway through before I was ready to either turn it off or just turn down the music . all the best

1 minute in and I'm thinking "Excellent footware for moving heavy boxes around"!!!!
Above all comfortable! 🤣
Just screwed up that warranty.
It depends, I didn’t do any irreversible changes, so I could put it back as it was + I didn’t do anything to any of the components or mechanics.
Just turn the lift around rather than messing with the tubes and cables.
Not that easy, because the lift has a front and rear side and the front is capable for more weight. Since most cars are front heavy, the car front needs to be at the front of the lift. I’m actually surprised how many people have raised this question. I’ll do a follow up video where I’ll try to explain.
