Why DINO CRISIS Doesn't Need a Remake - A Review (Full Spoilers) | MNTM

Dino Crisis is a classic of 90s survival horror, and in the current era of horror revival it’s been conspicuously absent, but does it actually need a remake? In this video I dive into why it doesn’t, because it already holds up perfectly well in almost every way. The parts that don’t hold up though, they're definitely better off left in the past. Will you review rise of the golden idol if not whats your opinion on it (i thought it was a mixed bag but the good parts are really good and i also love eugene
I don't know what it is but i love digging through horror games' hidden documents and audiologs. A lot more than playing the games myself, interestingly enough
I love a good time limit in a game. The pressure to perfom under the looming presence of a clock i think makes more games interesting
"Who wouldn't want to be chased down a dark corridor by that?" I feel so SEEN.
Awesome as always. The love you put into your vids really comes through. ❤
babe wake up, new monotonal lizard video
It's interesting how a decade ago, the twist in Five Nights at Freddy's being that the threat is actually supernatural caught a lot of people (including myself) off guard. Now, INPUT6 having more mundane explanations for its horror was refreshing to see.
This is easily one of the most criminally underrated channels on this hellsite
VIGOROUSLY SECONDED.
Lad deserves a shit-load more views.
👌
I have no idea why I happen to be around the MINUTE you launch a video but I'm not gonna complain lol
Why are you awesome
One of the best games I had the pleasure of playing this year! Thanks for the video!
Glad you liked it!
I am the guy who beat c47 on HARD without knowing lean aiming was a thing :DDDDDDDDDDD Kill me nao The funniest thing is the aiming is COMPLETELY unlocked (same as when you lean) in the demos of c47.
Did people actually enjoy this game back then?
BITCH SHUT UP! DINO CRISIS NEEDS A REMAKE AND YOU KEEP YOUR SHIT OPINION TO YOURSELF BITCH 🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻
I know it JUST came out, but I’m excited to eventually hear your thoughts about Rise of the Golden Idol. I loved it just as much, if not more then the first!
I only just finished it myself. I've got to organise my thoughts about it, but it was very good. It kept tricking me into thinking "What does this have to do with anything?".
Another thing about after planting the bomb in Say Hello To My Little Friend is if you somehow alert the guards when leaving and trigger the bomb in panic, make sure you’re at a far enough distance from the lab cause your game will crash when the bomb explodes
In my opinion, your videos are the staples of what all video game reviews should be like, they’re fun and engaging, they’re organized and are flown with the game’s premise and they bring up very mentionable points about every aspect of the game including overview, gameplay mechanics, background and lore I also like how you’re not afraid to cover much lesser known games Thanks for keeping up with these well crafted videos
Thanks!
"The game can be played in widescreen, but I'm playing in 4:3." There is no acceptable reason to do that. "Because it'll annoy my friend." Ok, there is exactly one acceptable reason to do that. Well played.
This game cannot be played widescreen without timing glitch on anything later than WinXP. That's way he's playing it 4:3. The only workaround is to install a fan remake for modern systems.
Most of this games are very good
Okay, so… uhh, I have, like, •SO many• things to say about… all this, but rather than spitting it all out, rapid-fire mode, like some ten-year-old with severe, unaddressed ADHD who's hopped up on Mountain Dew, I'm gonna' try my damnedest to spit it out at a more temperate rate… like an adult with severe, unaddressed ADHD who's hopped up on coffee =Þ What's more, I'm gonna' give it my best shot to do so in order. So, here goes。。。 ¹• What the hell…? Jurassic Park for ·•NES•·⁉️ Nintendo was •STILL• making games for that antiquated [•very nearly• decade-old, at the time] system in '93 when they were •just barely• three years out from the release of the N64? o.O Part of me can't help but to wonder how it is that I'd never heard of this game, but by 1993, I'm pretty sure my NES was buried somewhere between all the other essentially useless crap we'd never intended to use again and the Christmas decorations… But it actually looks surprisingly decent for an NES gameーshocking considering that the NES could only display like, I think thirteen colors at a time. . . 🤔 The fact that it even included ichthyosaurs, dimetrodons and I wanna' say at least one other non-dinosaurian species is [but I can't rightly recall which… 🤷♂️] is also kinda' surprising and pretty frickin' cool for an NES titleーespecially when ya' consider that •at least ONE• particular NES title referred to generic pterosaur sprite as both a "pterodactyl" and a "dinosaur" (both erroneously =Þ). And, oh yeah, if you thought I wasn't prepared to engage in rampant pedantry… you thought wrong, I'm afraid ≈knuckle-crack≈ ²• This was actually the one I came for… Which, if nothing else were to clue you in to my age, that fact alone should suffice -.- I remember renting this little bastard from Blockbuster… regularly, I'm ashamed to admit 😔 Eventually, however, I •did• come to my senses and, upon realizing just how much the game •actually• sucked, I moved on to ·•m u c h•· greener pastures… And by this I mean better games, of courseーmostly RPG classics, which, come to find, the SNES and PS1 libraries were •absolutely rife• with. Still, try as I might to simply forget about this clunky horror show, I guess I just couldn't… Because when I saw it on eBay a few years ago for, like, 5 bucks, I couldn't stop myself from buying it. It arrived in about a week. I immediately removed the •MUCH better• game from my SNES, played Jurassic Park for like, a half-hour and. . . quickly remembered why I'd decided I hated it all those years prior -.- Indeed, the indoor areas of the game may be more forgiving than the often •absurdly difficult• outdoor areas; however, the slow, clunky movement and, at least as far as I can recall, total lack of any discernible mapーat the very least a ·•decent•· one anywayーstill made these areas virtually unplayable and •dreadfully tedious• 😫 Again, though, you've gotta' give it to 'em… Those graphics were damned decent for their time. . . 🤔 ³• Last thing. Bah. I knew all those Sega bastards were just flexing. They'd always brag about how much "better" their versions of games were than all of us Nintendo kids… Seriously, I can't adequately describe just how many times I had to hear some little punk bitch brag about how in •his version• of Disney's Aladdin, Aladdin had •actual• swords, when all we got were ♠︎♡♣︎◇in' apples… 😒 I can't •adequately• describe it because just throwing out a rough estimate alone doesn't exactly measure up to having to hear this dumb crap on the school bus ·•literally EVERY morning•· from like, '92-'98 simply because someone once saw you reading a copy of Nintendo Power. . . 😠 And who the fuck brags about a shitty game like Aladdin anyway, regardless of whatever console it happens to be befouling⁉️ Seriously, though… In a battle of 🍎 v. 🗡, who wins? Answer: The person who didn't waste money on a Disney game.
This is by far the most backward opinionated set of reviews i've ever seen, its like this guy was purposely trashing the game's that were decent while praising the one's that completely suck, and i say this because everyone i have ever talked to about these games have the literal opposite opinion of the things he said, the Sega CD had a good story? it barely even had a story! lol it was just a series of mini games, and the visuals of JP on the Genesis were bad? the graphics were the ONLY saving grace of that horrible game, i'm not trying to be rude but everyone i've ever talked to is of the opinion that the visuals of JP on Genesis were its one good thing, i stopped watching after hearing him praise the embarrassing Sega CD JP game cause at that point i just assumed 'and am still convinced' he must be trolling.
That game taught me to be extra careful when a bald guy asks to use the bathroom on the very right time in my life.
If you know what crap we had back in the 1990s graphically and story wise. I don't think you will appreciate or understand how amazing this video game was for us teenagers when it came out in 2000. You've been spoiled with everything that has come since then, even though I think this Hitman is still superior to many video games that came after. (Yeh yeah, I know it's just about how well it "holds up" 20+ years later. Blah blah bla)
Hey, just so you know, the reason why sometimes the guards shot you in the drug lab and sometimes they didn’t is because you were wearing a trespassing disguise, the only disguise allowed in there is the brown brimmed hat guard with the chevrons on his shoulders, neither of the green ones are, which seems to be a common misconception among players of this game!
What's interesting to me, having not played Dino Crisis but being an Ace Attorney fan, is the concept of the Ace Attorney Borginia and the Dino Crisis Borginia being the same place. In one of the Ace Attorney cases that most involves Borginia, there's a thing called a Borginian Cocoon, which is said to be able to cure an otherwise incurable disease but can also be used as a potent poison. They're incredibly illegal to smuggle, carrying the death penalty. Presumably they are implied to be from a natural creature, but if we take the Dino Crisis lore into account, I think it'd be interesting if they were some sort of deliberately developed weapon. There's never an animal mentioned that they come from, so I could definitely integrate that into my belief system. For fun. On a different note, WOW your videos are so good. I've just started watching your channel recently but they hit the exact niche I enjoy right on the head. I appreciate the effort that's very clearly on display in every vid I've seen. I hope you get some more traction soon, you deserve it!
Thanks! Maybe Borginian Cocoons could be dinosaur eggs?
@@monotonallizard Oh that is so fun. They're dino eggs to me forevermore.
Honestly, one save state mod would be enough to make the game enjoyable for fans of the classics to revisit
I agree!
Nice thorough review. Finally someone shares my hate for "JP II: The Chaos Continues" for the SNES. That game was ridiculously difficult. Don't get me wrong, I love JP, since it was a BIG PART of my childhood, but that game was impossible to beat. By the way, you forgot to review"JP II: The Chaos Continues" for the Game Boy. Same game title, totally different game. It's a nice little platformer.
Yeah, I don't know how I missed the handheld games. I'll get to them in a future part of the retrospective at some point.
like alot of Xennials around when this game came out i love codename 47 the most out of all the games.
As a 10 year old kid I never got past The Lee Hong assassination. I just replayed the resturant level 100 times lmao
kislux included, I firmly assert that unless one possesses the requisite skills, differentiating variations in the sack's appearance or metallic elements is an unachievable task.
8:47 "Cooper's a professional. He can handle himself." <CHOMP> 🤣🤣🤣
I’ve been rewatching both of these videos on a semi-regular basis, take ur time on the trespasser vid idc how long it takes i’ll end up watching it a dozen times anyway

17:04 Holy false equivalence. Eating brains in Stubbs isn't anything like Glory Kills in nuDoom, the former is actually well-paced on the grounds that enemies aren't given bloated HP to make you do the aforementioned epic bazinga moment kills. Hell, literally the only thing Stubbs and nuDoom have in common is that Stubbs runs on the Halo Combat Evolved engine, and nuDoom plays like Halo, rather than Doom. Other than that, comparing an actual game like Stubbs to Bethesda slop is - to put it lightly - weird as fuck.
I spent many, many hours at the lost world arcade machine at my local Walmart. It's such an incredible arcade shooter and I really hope to own an original cabinet one day
Man I was looking forward to the sections on Operation Genesis, Trespasser and the newer JW: Evolution. I get that they're not really direct adaptations, but to me those games *feel* more like Jurassic Park than these linear adventure games.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to them too. A video on Trespasser should be out at some point this December, and I'm hoping to get a retrospective done on the JP3 games including Operation Genesis done in 2025. No idea when I'll get to the Evolution games though.
the lab guards require you to be wearing that one officers uniform (the light brown guy). it's the only uniform in the level that will let you in the lab.
this game is amazing
28:42 oh my GOD
I definitely agree that dino crisis has aged extremely well compared to other games from the 90s. I think most of us just want dino crisis to come back because we feel robbed. Dino crisis should have been a huge franchise growing alongside RE. I mean the first one sold almost the same amount of copies as RE1 so it's not like it's some kind of niche franchise that didn't do well and the fans are just being needy. It's more of the notion that all these other games are getting remakes and dino crisis is getting the cold shoulder. It's just sad honestly. A staple of so many people's childhood lost to one bad title that really wasn't even the producers fault (thanks 9/11). While a remake isn't needed, I think that's the easiest avenue to show Capcom the franchise isn't dead. Do the super easy remake, let it out-sell every other remake they've done and then maybe we'll finally get a proper sequel to DC2...
I hope so!
Man you were not kidding, the music absolutely SLAPS.
