IWC service experience, water resistance rating and the Mark XX
I sent my top gun chronograph 41 ceratanium to IWC for service. Meanwhile I took the Mark XX as my vacation watch to go snorkeling in Florida.

Thanks to the best watch dealer in Coulumbia SC, Joey at Reeds Jewelers for letting me come demo this customer order, the Lake Tahoe chronograph 44. I brought my top gun 41 for comparison and, although the watch is big, it still sings on my 6.5 inch wrist. I used iMovie sound so as not to get background chatter.

My $270 leather IWC easeXchange strap arrived from IWC. It’s a lot of money for a strap that does not include a buckle. But the price is concordant with Omega strap prices. I always recommend buying the watch on the bracelet and then adding straps.

Long boring video about my IWC collection. Part uno.
Lovely piece though and the Germanic engineering would make anything seem 'too reliable'. IWC has become my go to brand since moving on my Milgauss and GMT to crazy buyers. I went to the IWC Schaffhausen museum on the German /Swiss border. Amazing place.
Love IWC, i have the pilot’s chronograph in steel with the blue dial with in-house movement, I’m so happy 😊
What colour leather are you waiting for ? . Have you looked at the longines spirit. 40mm ?
Do you think 🤔 a brown or tan leather strap would go with that blue dial?

A few months ago I got the Lake Tahoe, too. It is hard to describe the feeling while wearing it. You bring the feeling and the watch right to the poont in this video „…in your 40s…“etc. awesome, thank you!

Very useful review thank you! I used to have a mark XVI but sold it unfortunately.... I'm considering the XVIII... but prefer the size of the XX.. The two issues I have with the XX are: it's less tooly (a lot of shiny surfaces, like the metal hands and polished bezel), and also the date window in black would have been nice.. So I'm still likely to go for the xviii unless it just wears too large on wrist And as a bonus they're £2000 cheaper than the black XX
They just released a limited edition titanium. You can probably still get it from the online concierge.

Well I picked up the Lake Tahoe, your other video was super helpful in convincing me! I absolutely love it. I agree with your comments that you completely forget about the size when you put it on. It’s just so darn cool and unique. My AD has a Desert Mojave 41 waiting for me to check out tomorrow 😂 I’m sick… I absolutely love IWC’s ceramic offerings today.

@@RandyswatchesI picked up the Mojave 41 yesterday too 😂 Tje AMG ceratanium is staying for sure, just need to figure out which between the Tahoe and Mojave I prefer. Or I’ll just sell my other watches and rock only IWC!
My top gun ceratanium is my default watch for sure. I’ve decided that I’m done unless they release a big pilot 43 with a date, or make an engineur with a bit more features. Or maybe a special aquatimer. If I buy another watch in the near future, I suspect it’ll be a Glashutte Original.
Hey Randy how long did it take to get your service shipping kit to ship back to IWC? I ordered mine about a week ago and they didn't provide a tracking or anything.

I never asked in your other Lake Tahoe video… what’s your wrist size? I’m seriously contemplating adding the Lake Tahoe next. I’m completely bit by the IWC ceramic bug after buying the new Pilot Performance AMG chrono in ceratanium. My wrist is about 6.8”, but flat.
6.3-6.8, depending on the time of the day. If you want one I may be able to get you one tax free new or cheaper used, as I have a connection with a dealer and I know someone else who has one.
Thanks! I have a couple good connections myself. I’m likely going to get a Lake Tahoe and Mojave 41. Try them out and see which I want to keep. I’m being offered both at 18-22% off depending on the dealer. I’m in Canada myself.

IWC does some of the best perpetuals imo for the value. Great video, like your other on the Lake Tahoe. A very underrated brand .. impeccable attention to detail, great use of different materials, and just pretty to look at!

Some people just don’t understand IWC. Personally, I’m so glad there is practically zero hype around the brand. I really love their engineering-forward approach to watch design. I just picked up the Pilot Performance Chronograph (the new Mercedes AMG F1 watch) in ceratanium. Came on a black rubber but also bought the teal one. It has completely stole my attention and reminded me why I love IWC.
That’s an awesome piece! Congratulations. I wear my ceratanium 41 most days now. No matter what I’m doing or what I wear, it fits. If I had yours, I’d definitely rock the black band.

Does anyone have flavor flav screaming in their head when they saw this huge white face watch on his wrist? That thing looks to me like the clock flavor flav used wear around his neck…too big!
The camera adds 10 Lbs. look at the video of the larger 43mm Lake Tahoe chronograph and see the wrist view vs the photos. It doesn’t translate to how great it looks in real life. But I’ll admit it does stand out. It’s a white dial, solid gold perpetual!
No, it´s personal taste...it is big yes but for me certainly not too big, and I like it when a watch has some presence on my wrist.......it´s a gorgeous watch so nothing wrong with it that it stands out......I also used to wear these small 34 - 36 mm watches that were like almost invisible, but it just got so boring for me.........but most important, you always wear a watch for YOU to like, and not for others to like

Such a nice piece. Their new ceramic models are really nice. I would say in my opinion Lake Tahoe is the best. I was hoping they would release this in 41mm. I have tried this on in an IWC Boutique, but the 41 Mojave and 41 Ocean fit me well the most.
I’m sure a Lake Tahoe 41 is in the pipeline. It’ll be so hard to get I imagine!
To be fair, your watch didn’t require a full service. I had my Portugueser go through a full servicing job due to a moisture issue. I dropped it off at the flagship IWC store so they can handle the shipping on my behalf. It took about 2 months for me which I was happy about. The links and updates worked for me. When I picked it up from the boutique, I noticed small nicks on the bezel and the manager sent it back. He said it looked like marks left by a tool the watchmakers use. As a token of inconvenience, they gifted me a jacket they had made by a local tailor. It said IWC Racing on it…pretty cool. Picked it up a month later and it was flawless. $795 well spent after having it for 12 years. I still visit the manager when I’m in town for coffee and cookies. Top notch service. He did say my watch took only 2 months because it’s an older model with ETA movement. If it was a more complex movement it may take longer.
That’s an awesome story. I think it was worth it for the memory and the swag, especially considering how long an omega takes. Also, mine said “full service” on the invoice, but it was probably just a line and water testing. Happy collecting!
I just went to the boutique today to take a look at the Lake Tahoe Chronograph, they did not have the Lake Tahoe but had the woodlands, I came to the realization that my wrists are big, the 43mm looked sort of small, I even tried the perpetual calendar big pilot 46 and i still had some margin! I put my name on the waitlist for the Lake Tahoe :)
That’s awesome! The way watch prices are crashing, you could get the rodeo drive perpetual for a steal. I’m afraid if I try on a big pilot perpetual, I’ll buy one. But I seriously don’t think you’d be disappointed with a 43 Lake Tahoe. Thank you for sharing.

It’s not unwieldy or uncomfortable. I’d say it’s pretty light for what it is.

My MK XX was running 12 spd fast. Not terrible but below par. Went to local service centre in the UK came back the same. Went back to Switzerland, came back as the most accurate watch I have ever seen + 1/2 spd. Shame it had to go back but now can’t take it off and nudged the rest to the watch box. My first IWC and I’m sold on their customer service and their beauty ❤

the official service centres actually do all the work they claim they will do. I know some people have told me that local service centres will sometimes not even actually service the watch if they think nothing is wrong with it but still charge you.
I sent in an inoperable watch that I purchased from a grey market dealer. It came back working in good shape....I.5 years later.

IWC CEO Chris Grainger was wearing this watch when he visited Louisville two weeks ago. Looks so good on the wrist. He also wore in the evening the new Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Horizon Blue in White Gold. Equally stunning.

Nothing special, basically a giant mousepad from Amazon. It’s cool for these videos because it has time zones and avoids glare from my terrible lighting.

I suspect it is faux leather, but yes, it was complimentary. It is not the same quality as the one you get when you purchase a timepiece, but it is another example of how they pay attention to the customer experience. Pleased, where is the sailcloth strap on the PPC from? Thanks
Ritchie makes the strap, but I need a different permanent solution. The end doesn’t taper so it is a little bit tight in the buckle, which isn’t good long-term. But it’s OK for now. Also the lug ends are not curved so they are being shaped by the spring bar. I’m trying to find a tapered curved end strap.

My Omega took one year for service. That was recently too.
Sorry to hear that. My local AD quit carrying Omega for that reason. I was thrilled to only have mine gone for 3 weeks. Just got back from wearing it to the pool. Omega does sell quite a few more watches than IWC, but that’s no excuse.

I would love to pick up the Mark XX. How is the accuracy (s/d?)
I think it’s about 5 seconds/day slow, but honestly I have so many now that I lose track. I didn’t notice any loss/gain on my vacation week with it (which I talked about in this latest rambling video). The mark XX is probably still my pick for anyone wanting a GADA watch.

First, I’d say that buying a watch is about putting it on and letting it speak to you. I’ll tell you that all of the Mark XX colors will look great on straps and bracelets. What matters is, will you walk past a mirror and see your reflection and have to stop to admire the timepiece? Does it make you smile to put it on? Go to a dealer and sit down and start a conversation. If you can’t do that, wait for a special occasion and order the one that you really want most.

I sent my Le petite prince for service. It took a few times before it was completed correctly. I’d check the day of the week and day of the month change. I had to send mine back because the day of the week would change near midnight but the day of the month would change 2 hours later. The change for both functions should start at the same time but mine didn’t and required another service to fix properly
That sucks. I guess my experience was easy because they just had to change the hands and water test it. But I think posting positive feedback helps as well as negative. I know I’d be frustrated if I had your experience. One day I’ll have to send in my perpetual calendar… that will be interesting.
It’s a keeper! You have enough watches to find wear, some pieces in a collection are not meant to be worn all the time. It can be yoilur Sunday church watch, an evening dinner watch, or a special occasion piece for unique once in a lifetime memory, for example, weddings and graduations. No need to get rid of it imo.
With the new strap, it’s stunning. I’m not getting rid of it for sure!

I don’t really see a place for the ingenieur in my collection. My wrist fluctuates so much in size throughout the day that I know I can’t get a proper fit. But if they ever develop one with interchangeable straps or a Vacheron style adjustment, I may have to suck it up and go see the AD.
This does bother me. On other watches too.
Still my go-to when people ask me what to buy if they only want one daily watch. I just hate sounding like a fanboy, so I point out flaws where I can find them.

Have the “tribute to 3705” which is comparable to your Ceratanium Love the dial of Mark XX and how it wears but not the biggest fan of the steel bracelet Have you tried it with IWC easy xchange rubber straps as well ?
I have not. On a lighter watch that doesn’t need so much support, I would rather have an assortment of NATOs. For a heavier piece, a thicker rubber strap makes more sense.
