You can get Lunchbox peppers from Heirloom Reviews. The Strawflower doesn't need to be stratified. I grew some last Spring and Summer. It does take awhile to germinate though. Also, artichokes are absolutely delicious! I think you'll love them. The leaves are thick and meaty and creamy-tasting . Steam them and then dip the leaves in melted butter with lemon and some garlic salt (you just pull the meat off with your teeth, you don't eat the whole leaf). The heart is really good too!
@@IAMGiftbearer thank you so much for the information!! I haven’t went to far into different varieties of flowers so I couldn’t remember what they required! I think I’m going to enjoy them as well. Fingers crossed they grow well for me 🤞🤞 I will do exactly what you mentioned because it already sounds fantastic!!
Lunchbox peppers are just a trademarked name. That's why you can't find them anywhere.
@@billsmith2593 do you know what variety it is or anything? I just want to find a similar small variety to grow but I’ve yet to find something like them
@Willowcreek_021 They're just "mini bell pepper" 🙂

Genuine question (not mean in the least) but I’m curious what you and others call a “homestead.”? What qualifies to you and others vs garden/chickens etc. (this was not a poke or being mean - context and heart are lost in text formate - just super curious)
Well I’m going to be honest I use the term “homestead” because that’s what others can relate and find my content by BUT personally I am more of a “modernsteader.” Homesteading to me anyway is a way of life that is usually based more around tradition. Woman stays home, cooks from scratch, food is grown at their home, butchering of their own livestock, etc. I am a full time working mom just doing what I can. My child attends public school, not everything we eat is grown or produced at home, etc. However, I did not grow up with these traditions so for me personally I am still building my homestead or “modern stead” that’s why in most everything I share I say my homesteading journey because I’m still on it and building it each day. I believe anyone can be a homesteader. Regardless of what you do or where you live. Which is what I try to always relay in my content. Not everyone “fits the mold.” I would also add that definitionally having a house on land surrounded by family is what we have accomplished. We chose to build on a family farm. So I guess there’s many different definitions and takes. Thanks for the question! It’s a good one!
yay Butt Nugget!! 😂
Try putting the grapes from the infused water in the blender with about 2/3rds of the water. it actually comes out almost like juice....

I have never found a bbq recipe that tasted very good. What does yours taste compared to? I would love to try it
@@sharonjennings1282 I follow a recipe in the new Ball book called “paw paws by water bbq sauce” I think I have a video back on my page for that one and then the second one I make every year I use the base out of the original ball book and tweak it a bit. The paw paws by water tastes more like a sweet baby rays (calls for a lot of ketchup so it’s very sweet I used half ketchup and half tomato puree to cut down the sweetness) but if you like sweet and sweet baby rays you could follow the recipe exactly. Just put a flat piece of cardboard between stacked jars..doesnt use a lot of space and reduces risk of lids popping from direct pressure. Our shelves are large metal with a thin board to cover the metal racks, can literally hold a truck, but was a expensive purchase we gradually got all we needed, like 6. Sometimes you gotta just use what you have or can afford. ❤😊
@@sunshineonmapleridgeacres1376 I tried that but unfortunately the cardboard wasn’t thick enough and I didn’t trust it 😂 I got a bunch of thick cardboard from the chicken coop box I ordered so what I don’t use to help insulate that I think I’m gonna use the rest for in between my jars. That would make me feel better about stacking them for sure!
@Willowcreek_021 Ball jars official position from their Facebook page is that it's ok to stack, no height limit and cardboard is unnecessary. Now I don't stack full quarts, but the others, I do. There's just too much wasted space otherwise. I'm not replacing my metal shelving.
@ oh really? I’ve just always been told to never stack? But I’ve also never had a problem from stacking. I know others have talked about the seal issues I’ve just never personally had anything fail or loosen due to a jar sitting on it
@@Willowcreek_021Me too. Never had a failure once they're on the shelves. You just have to be diligent about rotation.
@@sushicourier 100% I agree. I always use the ones on top first and the forjar lids I use are super thick and durable so I can’t see a jar messing with them really
If you don't have a problem with "rebel" canning, dry canned carrots (just tossed in ghee) are amazing. Not nearly as mushy as water packed and so sweet. When 5# bags go on sale for $1.99 I'll can 10 pounds (10 pints). Try a can or two the next time you've got a space. 😊🥕
@@sushicourier I’ve seen many people use the dry canning method. I’ve never tried it but am not opposed to trying new things. Especially if it’s something I have a hard time getting used up otherwise lol!

You can purée the carrot to make a Brazilian carrot cake!
@@jmsuther01 I wondered about doing carrot cake with the canned carrots! We LOVE carrot cake so thank you for mentioning that! I’m definitely going to give it a try ❤️
@@Willowcreek_021You can also make hummus out of canned (cooked) carrots. Either 100% carrot or ½ and ½ with chick peas. It's really good, and also lowers the calories.
Canned ground beef depends on how you use it. I've seen so many people open a jar, discard the fat, drain the water and heat it up. I agree that's not very good. Try this. Open your jar and pour fat, water and ground beef in a skillet. Start frying it just like you would when you fry up ground beef for chili or spaghetti sauce. When it gets bubbly hot, it looks like partly cooked ground beef. Continue cooking until the water evaporates away and you hear the familiar frying sound. Let it cook until it looks like raw ground beef you were cooking. Then drain off the fat. You have the flavorful stuff stuck to the skillet like frying fresh ground beef instead of the dog food consistency.
@@lindachandler2293 oh wow! Thank you for the tip! I will definitely give it a try. I think canning ground meat is SO convenient I just hated the texture. Maybe this will help with that!
I canned carrots a while ago. I didn’t really like them either, but I mash them up and mix them in when I make meatloaf. Just so they don’t go to waste
@@candyc1334 that’s a fantastic idea! I’ve definitely got to get more creative and get them used up in other ways!
I have used my old Christmas cards to cut a ring to make a decorative top to my jars. The card circles fit on top of the lid but under the ring. Good project for the grandkids if they come to visit, cutting out circles out of Christmas cards. They enjoy the time together and a mug of cocoa to top the activity off :)
