Chicken drying rack super easy DIY
Super easy DIY chicken drying rack when you are processing chickens and want to dry many chickens. This rack is very easy to make, and very easy to put together and very easy to keep clean and very easy to transport.
This rack uses schedule 40 PVC and it is three-quarter inch. I have seen other racks with half inch but the 3/4 inch is much more stable less flex. We did not use glue for portability and for ease of washing.
 I designed this rack to fit properly on a foldable picnic table so all of the standard foldable full-size picnic tables from Costco or Walmart or target will fit this rack. There are four cross sections and five Long sections that make up this rack.
All of the pieces in between all of the joints and the leg pieces are all 6 inches and the pieces that go on either side of the T-pieces are 2 1/4 inch.

    its all fun untill you get root rot with a fixed water level that cannot drain from the pipes. I had the same kind of system but switched to another one connecting the buckets at the bottom to distribute the water. Hope you don't have problems with root rot in the californian heat. But overall really nice setup, im jealous because i don't have that much space for such a system

    As I am from Europe, gallons and quarters are not my thing. Is a qt equal to 37,5 gal? BTW the water in the buckets will allways be at the same level. Either the pipe inside goes way down to to bottom or even when there is no pipe gooing down. The level will be at the lowest inner hight of the pipe. Reason in this setup the pipe never is full so there will be no siphon effect. The way to regulate the hight of the water in the buckets is by entering the pipe at the bottom and from there at the inside a pipe in the lenght that gives you the hight of the water you want. One can not change the laws of nature.

    if one were to go off grid what solar (12v) system for pumps would you start with?

    • @LiquorandCheeseburgers
      @LiquorandCheeseburgers 8 місяців тому

      On our sailboat, we have two 245 watt- 24v solar panels, an MPPT controller that knocks it down to 12 volt and routes to battery bank. I don't usually use the inverter, but we can if necessary. If you're just running a pump and aerator and some LED's (As far as a green house similar to the one in this video) you won't need much. The pump isn't running continuously, at least from what I've researched from other homesteaders. Use an on line watt hour calculator and make sure you have enough storage (battery). Do your homework with the batteries and use good wire, not worth cheaping out on the batteries and wiring.

    Here's a list of all the problems I see: 1. There is no cooling for the nutrients. DWC requires nutrients to stay below 21°C to be able to hold enough dissolved oxygen for healthy roots. 2. Where is the air pumps? Any large plants that need well drained soil also require a lot of dissolved oxygen in the nutrients. 3.There is no way to do a reservoir change without emptying out each bucket individually and refilling them while the system is off. 4.The drain height should be set so that the water stays a couple inches below the net pot at max height. 5. The drain design has no way to prevent roots from growing into the pipes and blocking them. 6. The pond pump shouldn't be inside the reservoir because it produces heat. 7. No convenient location to test the EC and pH. Having to open a reservoir every time is quite annoying, and takes time. 8.The reservoir is too small, and should be located outside the greenhouse, or in the ground. Since I'm not an ass, here's how to fix the issues: 1. Put the buckets on the ground, as the heat will be absorbed. A chiller of some kind will probably be needed. 2. Install air pumps, with an air stone in each pail. 3-5. Set the max height 2-3" below the net pots. Run the drain tube all the way to the bottom. Insert the fill line into the drain so that it fills through the drain, pushing out roots. Then you drill a hole on the outside and put in a small barbed 90° fitting with a air line on it to create and air break. This air break stops the syphon when the water inside the bucket reaches the height of the hole outside the bucket. All you have to do is fold over the airline and pinch with clothes pin, and it will drain syphon all the way down to the bottom, allowing you to empty out the whole system. 6. If you remove the grill off most pond pumps, they have a threaded inlet to add a barbed connection and relocate the pump outside of the nutrients. Eliminates heating the reservoir with the pump. 7. Adding a small cup that fills from an extra irrigation line and drains once filled an inch, allows you to test the nutrients without having to open anything up. Add a cap to keep the bugs out. 8. I size my reservoir to be large enough that I can vacation for 7 days without maintenance. The minimum size should be enough to compensate for nutrient use between additions, plus enough space for all buckets to be filled to the overflow point, and extra water to keep the pump from running dry. Using a sump pump float to shut down your pump and prevent it from burning out is a good idea too.

      Chickens have very poor eye sight in the dark. I have lights in my run area only, the coop is for protection, roosting and laying eggs only. I don't put food or water in the coop it stays in the attached run area. I use led solar lights in the run and I only put a light in the coop during winter to help with egg laying. I have been raising chickens for over 50 years, I was 6 when my Grandma gave me my first flock 1 rooster and 6 hens it has been very rewarding and satisfying teaching my kids and Grand kids about chickens. Good Vid

    To save confusion, black PVC pipe does not technically exist. It is black because it is ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) pipe. It doesn't appear to be an issue with your build but just know that the two (PVC & ABS) cannot be joined together with the pipe cement that you recommend in your product list or with other cement. The two are mutually exclusive and PVC is typically used to feed a system where ABS is most often used for the waste side. BTW, awesome build and I loved the attention to the little things like thinking ahead and foreseeing issues and dealing with them beforehand.

    This system will run out of water before the buckets are full. You will need to fill buckets with water and your cooler with water before running. Wait and see. You have 40 gallons of water held in buckets before it returns to sump (cooler). That is more than cooler capacity.
