    Whats do you use the dehydrated reeds for?

      Garnish mostly. The reeds and leaves flavor profiles are far more muted than the rhizome and root. Dehydrating them was more of an experiment to see how we could use all parts of the plant.

    Took a look at Timberking - they're "taking orders" for 2023 into 2024 and they're not giving a price for those orders. In other words you could wait over a year for a mill with an undetermined price. That's not going to work for me.

    Probably a silly question , but once the beds are full of water they start to drain via the Bell Siphon , while its draining is the inlet still filling the bed or does it shut off? how does that bit work? Thanks

    • @yourticulture6763
      @yourticulture6763 2 роки тому

      Some systems DO run on a timer where the inlet flow is shut off, but I like things as simplified as possible, so we run a constant flow system. As long as the drainage flow is > inlet flow, the bell siphon should function as designed. I highly recommend going with a combination of oversized drains and ball valves at each inlet. That way drainage is NEVER overwhelmed (like we faced) and so that inlet flow rates can be optimized to time the ebb/flow.

    Dude, you should just pull all that stuff out and build yourself a koi pond. 🙂

    • @yourticulture6763
      @yourticulture6763 2 роки тому

      Ya know, we have actually talked about doing a little water feature pond with a cascade that incorporated grow beds. Might happen in the future, but the only problem would be the 4-5 months of winter weather on exposed beds. We’d have to be very selective about what we could plant, and there’s a very small pool of winter crop to choose from that can handle our winter lows.

    • @metaponics8605
      @metaponics8605 2 роки тому

      @@yourticulture6763 I was actually suggesting you replace those horrible plastic tanks with an indoor pond and connect that to your existing grow beds. Koi can handle a wide variety of conditions. People have been keeping them for thousands of years because they are tough as nails. If summer temps are a challenge think about using evaporative cooling. This would require a new outlook on how to care for your fish but you will be adding a huge amount of natural substrate that will stablize your aquatic environment over the long term. Your grow bed side is beautiful, your aquatic side should ALSO be beautiful. That's how you will know you are on the right track.

    • @yourticulture6763
      @yourticulture6763 2 роки тому

      Keeping Koi would be an option if we were only concerned with vegetation, but we’re looking for the protein production as well. Ever eaten Koi? Also, bluegill can sustain temps from 35-95*, putting them well within our swing range, and they have a PH tolerance that allows us to adjust the system to grow a wide diversity of plants. And I can assure you, with our low stocking density, the fish are happy and healthy.

    Nice job. I have the same crz, bought it two years ago for the same reasons. Rugged build, 23hp, and the biggest cut throat for its size and price. How do you like that log scale? I built a different one using a tape measure. I showed it on my channel, it allows you to plan your cuts up from the bed so your can't sizes are correct for the lumber being cut. Timberking says the saw cuts a 16th inch, but my scale can measure the cut to a 32nt. Happy sawing and building to you.

You keep stopping it on your cuts I really want to see the machine actually do work I'm trying to talk one of my buddies in a boss man to buying one they're pretty idea when you do as much tree work as we do down here in Maryland

    • @yourticulture6763

      Where ya at in MD? My wife and I both grew up in southern MD and went to school on the eastern shore. Believe it or not, that little winch holds its own, and I’ve used it to hoist red oak logs that’ve maxed out the mill. We’ve got an old Massey Ferguson tractor that makes life a lot easier now, but for mobile milling without a loader, the winch and ramps are totally capable. If you’re looking for a hobbyist mill, or something heavy duty enough for side work here and there, this 1220 is a great option. It’ll cut whatever you throw at it that’ll fit in the cutting throat.

We’re preparing to build an herb spiral in our garden in a few weeks. Oregano will definetly have it’s place in that, as it’s one of our favorite herbs to cook with!
