Back out in Cali Dec 19 to drive the car, driveline vibration seems much better, Shifter is still rattling like crazy, which has to be sorted or it will drive me crazy. Sure cant wait till this thing is in my garage

New engine, new tranny, new clutch, new flywheel, still searching for the source of the driveline vibration. Seem to be somewhat better than the last time I drove it. Installed stock shifter to see if it stopped the annoying shifter rattle. All thing aside...the performance of this thing is amazing

Amazing car, still a few bugs to work out
Do you still have this car?
Of course...
@@awilson9530 Jealous! Looking to buy one myself. Enjoy it!
JPS - worst built cars. Go to a different source for a replica or outlaw.
These cars are built horribly.
I have put 5k of pure joy milage on mine. It rides and drives better than my much newer sports cars and I look forward to every chance I get to drive it. I have not experienced anything to support your comment.
Horrific driving style one hand over the top of the wheel and other hand constantly on the shifter. In an emergency this a very poor place to start from. Stay safe. "subaru engine" in the title will also get your video more hits if people are searching.
Thanks for the input.....the goal is to enjoy the car no matter how you choose to drive it.
How is it without a armrest on the door. I think I miss having one on days I had the windows rolled up.
Aaron how many niles did the car have at this point?
Probably less than 500
Hi, Now that you've had the car awhile, are you still lovin' it? I just ordered one. Looking forward to your response!
Oh yeah....still giggle every time I get to drive it. Mileage just rolled 5k....what did you order?
Hi Aaron. Meet a fellow JPS Convertible D Subaru owner, as of last month. If you ever want to connect to exchange thoughts - would be great. Your site helped me make the decision.
Yep always available to exchange information!
@@awilson9530 Thanks for the reply. I also got the Subaru, but the smaller engine. Still learning about the car but really appreciated your videos Aaron. Drive safe!!

@@awilson9530 Thanks. I tried the link but could not find the group. I am on facebook but having some trouble. If you can invite me from the group - maybe that will work. JPS is holing Cars & Coffee one Sunday morning per month now. Fun to go; if you were closer, you'd probably attend. Thanks again for the heads-up.
@@patrickwitt1323 try this... fb://group/5001369553252791?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT If that doesnt work try searching JPS 356 replica owners page. One of thw members cars will.be done next.week and he is looking for someone close to do the drive and inspection
Is that the rattle on the gear shift ,till you hold it ? Years later what did you fix ?
Yes finally fixed it about a year ago. JPS uses a early model solid shift coupler...i swapped it for a heavy duty newer design. I also swapped several.other things...new shift rod bushing and shifter....with all that ultimately what fixed it was a retune on the motor...i added a 02sensor and had it retuned.. original tune was way rich and the tuner thinks the motor vibration was the motor trying to manage the huge amount of extra fuel. Motor is smooth as silk now...no drive line vibration anywhere....
@@awilson9530 Thanks for the info. Is the car doors etc water tight ? Like when you wash it.
Yes, not sure the answer would be the same.for.a auto car wash....but for hand washing yes. I have never driven the car in the rain...so that's a ?
@@awilson9530 Someone backed out of the grey coupe with just a couple months left to complete. So I bought it. Not sure if you are in that area, but if you are check it out and let me know what you think. Any advice is welcome.
@@greggwoodcox2167 awesome i saw it for sale....
Hi Aaron. We’ll I’m 2 years into the build and 2 months since John sent me pictures of the painted body. In you experience and to calm my anticipation what was your experience in what I can expect going forward? Thanks for your help.
First remain calm (haha...which is easy for me to say after the fact...because I didnt) John is not a big communicator as you well know. ...so don't assume the worst. Send another couple of emails asking if he is about ready for you to come out and do the shakedown runs. Start planning a trip out to see the progress of the build. Its your car...its essential for you to stay engaged eith on the phone or in person. Me...i am an in person kind of guy so I was in Cali often for work so I just planned a couple of extra days to see the progress.
I end up reaching out when I need moral support so here I go again. I’ve been trying to reach John over the last few weeks. Calls and emails. It’s gone quiet to the point I worry he might not be well or just on vacation. Have you experienced this?
Reallllllly been thinking about buying one. I might off 2 of my aircooled vws to make it happen.
How does the body/ seals hold up against rain or washing? Is it watertight? Can it be driven in rain without water logging the engine?
My have worked out for you, but JPS didn’t follow my build sheet. Ordered a 330 HP TURBO & pro street transmission, bumper guards, banjo steering wheel, upgraded gear shift etc. John called me & said the car was ready for delivery. Asked for pictures of everything I ordered. John said he wasn’t obligated to do that. No pictures, no more money. Turns out, engine was a 180 HP, no pro street trans, no bumper guards, no banjo steering wheel, no nipple hubcaps etc. I had already given him $30,000. Have hired an attorney & am calling California fraud division, BBB.
Damn.....man....so sorry to hear about your experience. How frustrating to wait.all that time and the car is not exactly how you wanted it. Hopefully you can get it straight soon and start enjoying your car
Thank you for the tour and walk around. Your coupe is beautiful. Great job and excellent information and detail. I'm contemplating a used purchase, and your video provides information I've been trying to find. Unfortunately the JPS website doesn't have a link for their coupe offering. One difference I've noticed between some couples is seat choices. Your car has Speedster seats versus the 2 piece seats found in regular 356 cars. Is this an option selection?
Hopefully the video helped. The seats in mine are custom speedster seats...they are 8 inches taller in the back. Send John at JPS an email...they get coupes in all the time for resale. Troy Sloan also sells used replicas
www.replicaspeedsters.com/
Thats a nice rumble. Awesome ride.
Is it for sale now? I saw one just like yours for sale on another UA-cam channel.
Heck No! Mine is not for sale
Great tour, love the car.are you able to give me a price guide.I know with varying options will lead to price. Thanks
very good work!
dumb
Beautiful car. What version of the ej25 is in this? It looks like a non-turbo motor but I think I heard (maybe in the comments on another video) that it was around 230HP? Trying to figure out which version had that much power without a turbo. Thanks!
It is a 1999- 2001 jdm ej254 NA Outfront Motorsports in LA built the motor.
@@awilson9530 Great thanks! Nice ride you got there:)
These are usually too light in the front end and get floaty a speed. How is the coupe? We had to literally add weight in the trunk to make it better on a speedster built by another co.
Yes it is very light in the front end. but nothing crazy...also it doesn't help that the air flow through the radiator is almost vertical, so the air flow is pushing up on the front end
THE IS COOL PORSCHE 356 REPLICA CAR ;) IS THE SUBRU EJ25 2.5L ENGINEN 200+HK.?? IS THE A 20-30.000 DOLLAR ??? REPLICA 356...
such a great looking car/ good for you my friend / good for you
And you said you are not going to race it, 230 BHP to much for car that light, car ,it only weighs in at 835 kilos . I would want to up rate the brakes with that much BHP, Take it easy in it, enjoy it,
brakes have been upgraded to disc. Car has great controllable power. I absolutely love every second I get to spend behind the wheel.
You have a great, easy attitude! What range of cost are we talking about?
Take my money ! Nice nice
Hi Aaron, I’m back. Did you ever sort out this noise and fix? I’m now 8 months into the build and waiting on paint. Take care.
yes I did...replaced shift coupler with a late model. I also upgraded the fuel injection by adding a wideband and Lamda. I then had it on the dyno and re-tuned. funny thing is the vibration completely disappeared after the tune. It was very very rich (11-1), tuner the thinks the vibration was from the engine trying to deal with all the extra fuel. quiet and smooth as silk now
Hi, have you finally fix all the problems of your A-MA-ZING car?
Oh yes, runs and drives amazing now
Man, that thing moves
Had a much better tune done on the motor, much faster now
@@awilson9530 it's my dream car. Gimme a few years
i love your car man! lookin to building a replica one. hopefully soon!
Cars don't settle. They just forgot to torque down the bolts.
What is that rattling noise?
it was a combination of the early style shift coupler and a bad shift bushing
It seems everyone who gets their car built by jps is almost always happy with the results. I might get one as a unique daily driver with the Subaru engine in it.
I recently ordered one from John at JPS. Ordered it in August 2021. Just called John and it will be going to the paint shop tomorrow. It will have the Mazda engine as well. Hope it will be done this year sometime.
Dont. They are slapped together with no real thought or real hardware and proper seals. We had to rebuild one we bought. Even had to add proper engine mounts. Look up their reviews.
Nice car but heated seats, power windows, bluetooth... why didn't you just buy a new 911? But hey each to their own I suppose, Enjoy
if i had wanted a new 911 that looks like all other new 911s.. I would have bought one, even with all the add ons...this is still a much different vehicle than a new 911.
Post another video
Hi Aaron. It’s been awhile, but my build is starting to move. I don’t have any additional questions due to our previous exchanges. Thank you for that. Is there any issues/ wishes you have uncovered since your last post that I should be aware of as I finalized my colors and options? Thanks again.
congrats on the build! what color did you go with? I really don't have anything I would add or change. I continue to throughly enjoy my car as often as possible.
Ruby red, same interior, motor, etc as yours. The only difference would be I’m going to add more of the frilly stuff, like badging, trim. Thanks for your input, it was very helpful.
Super Clean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Isn’t that still under warranty 12 no/12.000 miles? How does JPS do warranty with you living down south and they being in Cal?
Nvm - read JPS site and it says they set you up with a local specialist.
Love the mats - old school. I’m thinking about a stinger exhaust but I’m still look at a wide separation dual setup. Thank you so much for the shift bushing kit. Nomax is also a great solution. With all the construction in metro area you have to think protection for that cooling system. If you’re ever in St Louis let me know - I’m planning the build but I have to get 1 kid through school still, but I’ve started to talk to JPS. Thanks for inspiring us. Great summary video for ownership.
Love the mats - old school and looks great
Looks great in red - my challenge is the color combo. Definitely like the tan interior, and the door cards and dash coveting in leather just sold me. I think your front looks 55 ish with your options so that’s opening some possibilities for mods to accomplish. I’m still debating the twin bullet taillights.
Thank you for the in depth and honest review. Very helpful, as I’ve been looking at the JPS builds. Beautiful coupe.
What did they use for coolant lines?
1.5 inch exhaust pipe
@@awilson9530 thanks! Do you think they will be strong enough?
@@jeffinillinois sure, internal pressure isn't that high and the lines never move...much stronger than rubber hose
@@awilson9530 how about galvonic corrosion?
@@jeffinillinois the pipes may be treated during manufacturing....im unsure... maybe over many many years it could be a problem, but I am sure the coolant lines will far outlast the car.
Yeah, the luggage speaker box is inspired. I'm starting to look around for a used one of these, partially for cost but also in hopes that some of the shakedown issues have already been addressed. Downside is, it may mean parting 'with my 07 Carrera S in order to make it happen, and I'm not sure I can let go of it., yet.
that suitcase idea is absolutely genious...well done
I really like the suitcase speaker box. Brilliant! I am researching my decision for a speedster or spyder. Great info and ideas. Thank you
Hey Rusty (based on Jordan’s comment) how are you finding the reliability of the car now. Any Brake line, oil line or wheel bearing issues? Or electrical issues? Thanks in advance.
i replaced the drivers wheel bearing because there was some play in it. other than that it continues to run like a Swiss watch. no other issues
So clean!!!!
Did you order directly from JPS, or buy it preowned? How long was the wait time, and how much over the listed price did it end up running?
I ordered it straight from JPS, I added a little over $4k in options to the base price. Build took 27 months
@@awilson9530 WOW, 27 months? Just a month or two more than the 12 month build time John says lol
Why did you go for a Scuby and not Aircooled engine?
it boiled down to driveability, reliability, and hp......the cost would have been considerably more for a vw built to the same hp level...heck I don't have to change the plugs in the subi till 100k miles. as a bonus I get hot water heat and a.c.
@@awilson9530 Oh that’s interesting - the AC and Heat is a Suby option / extension only? I had not got that from the options sheet John sent me.
@@stevemcevoy843 maybe I could have said that better, yes you can have a.c. and heat with a vw engine..the heat is the old forced air vs the hot water heat with a subi
@@awilson9530 got it! Do you think it needs the extra HP? Ie is 150bhp not enough in a light car like that?
@@stevemcevoy843 haha...im not sure you will ever get a car guy to say that's too much hp.....i think the big subi 2.5 is a great motor for the car...alot of power but drivable. it's a good in medium between the 150hp vw and the 300hp turbo subi motor. another thing I can feel no reduction in hp with the a.c. on with the subi...i order the same motor if I had to do it again
