A historic look back at the Goldstar training video. At the time of production, the models using the PC-53A television chassis were, CL-14E20/F, CL-20E20/F,CL-21E20/F,CL20A96 and CL-20A96F. This film shows the operation of the power supply, line output stage, frame stage and Micro processor. Also shown is the method of locating down H.T. rails and the symptoms you will see as each line is missing.

Thanks to Mick (Mick McMichael) & Rich (Slidertogrid) on the Vrat forum. Mick originally had saved a Philips audio Teletutor cassette from 1978. Rich, in response to my forum thread about finding original Trade Video Training tapes, borrowed Mick's cassette and copied it. This was not straight forward, as the physical case had many issues. Therefore, Rich performed a transplant of the tape to a...

Video for the Radios-TV VRAT forum, TP48A restoration thread. This was a basket case, Rediffusion Reditune background music system from the mid 1960s. It came from a farm and, as you can see from the video Thumbnail, it looked like it had been pulled from a swamp. My heart sank when I realised the task that lay ahead, but pressed ahead. Rather impressive... i take it you've got some means of generating traditional teletext content from either digital teletext or the web? I'd definitely want something like this if I acquired any of my favourite teletext sets.

    Most Excellent! Thanks for sharing! I used to have a Philips VHS recorder that when playing back a film or tv programme, if you pushed the teletext button on the remote control, it would mostly give you a full teltext page. Sometimes, some pages werea little scambled, but, mostly pretty good and very often full pages with no scrabbling. Not just the homepage too. I could sellect other pages. Seems hard to believe I expect, but true. It was a six head ( I'm seem to recall) had Hi-Fi sound and had a Panasinic G-Deck I seem to recall.

      I need to join your forum but I really don't know what I can bring to the table simply because most of what I use to know in the 70s and 80s I have forgotten.

    • @RadiosTV
      @RadiosTV 2 роки тому

      Hi Michael, I seriously doubt you've forgotten as much as you think, and being among like-minded folk who were in the trade has this remarkable effect of promoting recall. I recall a good friend @john colman who is ex Thorn, not having seen a 2000 or 3000 series chassis in 40+ odd years. When he came over to my workshop, even he was amazed how instinctively his hands knew where everything was, and how it all started flooding back to him. Now he has the passion again, built a rather nice workshop and has a growing nice collection of Vintage TV's. There's a whole load of ex TV service engineers, on my forum. A couple of ex Ex Thorn (both subscribers here), DER, Philips, Granada, Radios Rentals, Rediffusion etc. Also, many who were self-employed independents such as yourself. There's even on guy who still has his shop that he opened in the 60s. I've mentioned you and your channel to a few, and many remember you from your articles published in Television. One chap also had many articles published on TV & VCR servicing, though using a pen name, as he worked for a Major company. If you ever did decide to join, you'd be very welcome and there's no pressure to post you can just read, and as you're ex trade, you'd have access to the data library. Not, by the looks of your well stocked shop, you'd need any data. p.s. Spooky, I got notification of your post whilst I was currently enjoying your "UMC TP. MSD309.BP76 Power supply blow up" video, with a cuppa and a biccy. Your channel is really taking off now, and righlty so. I've been working on the 4000 this evening, trying to grab some time before the hellish heat arrives. Sorted out the ultrasonic receiver and sourced some rare ERC3064 store IC's for it. I think I might need one as the service manual states if the set is powered without a battery it will fry the IC. The original had leaked, and you can bet someone has at some point in its past, has applied power, though probably not for many years, better safe than sorry. Sorry waffled on a bit. I'm getting back to you video, then back to the 4K.

    I do think it’s amazing that originally, me posting videos of my Rediffusion RM2 player a few years back, started a little following for the later AEI/Rediffusion ProPac 4-hour system, then Techmoan making his video, leading a big following to it, and people who worked for the company and their successor in the USA leaving comments about their memories and time working for them… it makes me smile that what originally stemmed from me who’s merely an enthusiast, wanting a pair of Rediffusion speakers as a kid in 2008, lead to everyone being interested in these systems… I’m actually friends with a former AEI Music programmer who done music programmes for some of the US’ biggest chains. He always has fascinating memories to tell. All you need now are some Rediffusion RBS-8’s 🔊

      Hi Howard, sadly not. I replaced the two pots (vol and tone) however, for the tone control to work (Fletcher-Munson effect) the volume pot needed to be a centre-tapped pot, I could not find for love or money, 20-25K LOG centre-tapped pot.

      Hi Mark, thanks. This came from a farm not far from you in Haywards Heath. Probably provided Moooosic (plagiarised from Jim jcdaze) for the cows when they were being milked. That's not as daft as it sounds. An article mentioned this practice, and in particular a farmer in Darlington in the late 60s early 70s was doing just that. Most of these, however, would have been used, and what you heard, when shopping in Fine Fare or Woolies as a kid. The last photo on this link shows how it arrived here and how it looks now. www.radios-tv.co.uk/reditune/

      Hi ZX, thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a suggestion. Indeed, your idea is certainly an option worthy of consideration. I had also been wondering what to do. I did find a couple of solder mask products available, that might be worthy of investigation, one not too pricey, the other a little bit. Both look viable and quite interesting, I hope to cover them at some point.

  • @trev8932
    @trev8932 2 роки тому

    Nice work. Pity these didn't last even when the sets were quite young. So many scrapped of course and now quite rare. It's also doubtful that TV service departments would have had the time to reverse engineer a suitable replacement plus the customer would have had to pay the man hours. A CNC machine is a good idea, will also have other uses too which makes it pay for itself. For me though I've done my "shifts' with colour TVs, and prefer to get rusty and decrepit monochrome sets going, often a challenge too, the great thing is the hobby has many facets that can siut individual taste. Keep up the good work.

      Thank you for taking the time to post your very kind comment. I spent the evening creating a couple of new geometry jobs to generate new G-code. The first is to try using a 0.8 end mill bit, instead of the 0.2 V-bit. I set a pass number of 5 for track isolation, and that left only a few islands. My objective here is to only have the traces remaining, in effect a sort of physical solder mask. To achieve the full removal, there is a plugin that allows you to define additional copper to remove. I now have the two G-code jobs ready for the CNC tomorrow, we'll see how this one turns out.

    Think I would test your thick film units first by trying in your working pcb first. As for etching a pcb if you dont have a copy of the pcb back best thing to do would be to remove all parts off your working board and then use this as a template to drill holes in a blank pcn,you can then draw the tracks by hand using the holes as reference points with s Dalo pen for the thin tracks and nail varnish for the thick tracks,I have done this in the past with great success,love you enthusiasm ,your not that different to me .

      Glad you enjoyed it Mark, there's more forecast over the coming weeks, we'll see. If it does, I'll continue doing the snow cam. Can't remember the exact year, think it was 2009 we had snow at Easter! As I think I've said before we seem to get it every year with Jan & Feb being the most likely though mid-November early December often sees a downfall. At least up here we still seem to have seasons, though speaking to elderly neighbours they've noticed it nowhere near as bad as it used to be, with the whole street coming together to dig their way out. I've only had to do that once back in 2010, my sports car disappeared on the drive and had to be dug out. Remember how I used to get the laptop out at work to play Xmas carols in November and all the way up to Xmas. Well this is the new tradition to get used to, I'll snow cam ya!
