Christmas in Walton 2020 - Longer Version
Anyone remember the body that was chucked in the old shaft at walton pit. It was my mothers auntie who had done it. Very bad it was
@@Gypsythings1 My grandma used to talk a lot about that incident.
@cjknowles1972 the story I got told by my mum was her auntie had an argument with her other aunt so he struck her and she hit her head on fire gaurd and put her to bed next day she was dead so she took her to pit shaft as walton pit in a silver cross pram and dumped her there. And she told my mums uncle when he asked where she was she said she's gone back home and she kept taking her pension out to make it look like she was alive.
Interesting video! Coincidentally, I found a photo of this from about 20 years ago. My Dad took my son for a walk to find it! It was even more overgrown in those days!
@@doubtingthomas736 Thanks. Its only a short walk but it can be a bit of an expedition, especially when it is slippy due to the rain. Though it was spectacularly verdant and buzzing with the chirping of birds, quite serene.

Very informative video
Being shot at with war bows while doing bridge repair. Not good at all.
Interesting.
My ancestors approve of this video. Yes, my real name.
I lived at number 2 as a child Upto 1981, the oak tree mentioned I remember well, it was a fair drop over the wall and there was a an opening that went a few meters under the road that had some type of big valves, there was an abundance of toads and newts to be had back then , fond memories.
Super
What did they use for mortar in Tudor times? It seriously stands the test of time. It was part lime, right? Please, what else was used to make the mixture that held the stones together?
Very nice tour of Sorrento. Is it practical to visit Pompei and Sorrento in one day? We will have about nine hours to tour both locations. We will be on a cruise ship, so the schedule is tight. Thanks!
We've been there and seen this wild view. What a historical treasure. Hoping no one has had any safety issues getting too close to anything they shouldn't.
I was born in Sandle Magna in 1961, attended Manygates School until the age of 8 then my family emigrated to Australia in 1969. Always loved playing in the castle ruins. Thanks for the memories.
So many lies, he knew exactly what buttons he was pressing, which has led us to the current farce. Shameful man.
Really nice guide, thank you for making this. I appreciate you don't just show us where you walked, but also add some useful tips and a random history fact here and there. Well done!
Good video but music too loud.
Great informative video!
Nice jee video
Looks a great bar, friendly people and a good night. Visiting Sorrento next week so will check it out.
Really interested to see this lovely film. We also lived in number 6 Woodyard Cottages and my daughter was born there in 2000!
Of course the return visitors don’t learn one word of Italian if they go to places which are Anglo Saxon “colonies”. It defeats the point of travelling if there is no wish or interest in experiencing what is really local lived by locals.
This is perhaps the best tour of Sorrento I have seen on UA-cam. Thank you for sharing.
He couldn't have been imprisoned in 1332 he was already dead 1322 by beheading !
Hi Chris would you do a video on the Civil War Siege of Sandal please? Surprising that Sandal managed to hold out to be one of the last Royalist Strongholds to Surrender.
Good, apart from the effects of the slide title texts, pity we only had half an hour to look around.
Good nice
Very very nice hallo jee
Perhaps they may learn there lesson.
Let's get this show on the road. I want to see how this turns out.
Thanks Chris, lived here for 10 years and never stumbled across that. Will have a wonder up and take a look

Interesting from a personal perspective. I have ancestors from Wakefield and Sandal.
Glad you liked it.
The dungeon/wine cellar is accessed though a steel trapdoor on the green which I believe you can see off centre to the left and down of the frame at 0:38
Great presentation, very well done. Lots of useful information.
Many thanks Jim. I now have a seperate channel dealing with Sorrento called ‘Sorrento With Bells On’ ua-cam.com/video/ZpoklSOww3I/v-deo.html
Oh no the pit gone oh no there's no jobs oh yeah there's warehouse
This is super informative, loving your narration and how you've captured pontefract Castle. Such a beautiful ruin! Would love to visit here. New fan here :) massive like!
Many thanks for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed it.
Just realised I replied to your comment from one of my other channels. I have started theming my content and re-uploading on the basis of that theming. At the moment I have a channel relating to the Sorrento in one and content relating to Wakefield in another. You might want to check out Wakefield Vistas where the Pontefract Castle vid is also uploaded ua-cam.com/channels/d2NP3Nc6-Ae0SKQRJUN0Qw.html . Given the subject of your own excellent channel you might also be interested in the videos relating to Sandal castle.
Get a packet of Haribo when you go
Very well explained , thank you .
You are welcome, glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent video. Thank you.
Many thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I have now set up a channel which has Sorrento as it’s main focus. It is called ‘Sorrento With Bells On’ ua-cam.com/channels/TBX0ACsUr9C_QIgND71U3Q.html

Hi Chris, great interesting video. I never knew that so much Georgian architecture still exists in Wakefield.
Glad you liked it.
I believe that the Grand Old Duke of York was about the Pennines as the top of the hill.
Thank you for this video!
I too played amongst the Castle ruins and the field opposite Manygates school. Even from a young age, I found the atmosphere on the field to be disturbing. Couldn't wait to get away from it.
Cool video but stop trying to pronounce names in Italian. Just say it in English or don't say it at all
Thanks for your comment, I will bear this in mind in future videos.
@@sorrentowithbellson6103 The Italian is absolutely fine and great for making the effort to use it. Dont let anyone put you off. Very informative video thanks 😀
Planning to go back
I have memories from uk
Brilliant video thanks. It's so interesting to see the actual site of the battle. For those interested in the Wars of the Roses, this video compliments another on Towton by Andy Johnson that I strongly recommend. Considering that Walton closed just 30 odd years ago the place is unrecognisable. I walk the dog there and try to imagine where everything was but it defeats me. I enjoyed your video - thank you.
Loved this video. Heading to Sorrento this Sept. Thank you
Glad you liked it. Many thanks. Sorrento is a wonderful place, I am sure you will enjoy yourself in September.
Couldn't agree more.
Never knew that. I will think of that day every time I pass Ferrybridge power station when going along the M62.
