The actual TBR starts at around 15 minutes if you're not interested in hearing me talk about the whys and hows and reading in general. Can I predict the Women's Prize Longlist?
I’ve read The Blade Itself - it’s grimdark for sure, mucky, gory but I actually didn’t mind it. I finished the first trilogy in the First Law but decided not to continue.
@@leeh4343 I have read some funny and uplifting books ready, so I think I'm ready for mucky and gory 😅
Should you read the Abercrombie, I'd join you. It's been on my TBR for ages. Mr Y has been on my TBR, too. Had to smile at your "15 book series" - I haven't re-read The Chronicles of St Mary's in a few months. 😜 But I was actually thinking of re-reading Whalen Turner's The Thief. In case you need another series to start.
@@julesGDSide I'm not familiar with Whalen Turner, but I like the series title! Buddy read of The Law Itself! That definitely tips the scales in Abercrombie's direction.
This is so amazing!! Thank you for making a whole video about the challenge Leni ❤ Loved hearing about your picks for last year and this year. Funnily enough I saw a pristine copy of Ghost Girl Banana in a charity shop today as well. But it was £5 not £1 so I left it 😅 Your copy of The Once and Future King is why ordering books online terrifies me. But hey, perfect for Ug-tober 😂
@@benreadsgood Let's hope I can follow through and actually read the books too 😅 I wonder if I should be concerned that people appear to get rid of Ghost Girl Banana without even reading it!
I've heard great things about Hello, Beautiful!
@@RaeLovesToRead Yes, I'll definitely have to get to it at some point!
I enjoy certain kinds of sci fi. I haven't read any Ursula K LeGuin yet. I loved the movie adaptation of Contact, but I've heard the book isn't as good - we have a copy so I should try it some day. How I Won the Novel Prize sounds good. Some interesting sci fi for you. I didn't know about Sci Fi September, so I will have to join in next year! I tagged you in the In Your Wildest Dreams tag yesterday, so I hope you enjoy it!
@@SueJacksonDE Oh, I didn't get a tag notification. I'll find your video. 😁
Love me some cwtching up under a blanket 😊
Tortured Poets Book Club!!!! 😁
@@RaeLovesToRead That's the one 😂
Don't watch the Woman in Black alone at night like I did 🤣🤣
@@RaeLovesToRead I'll have company for sure! The Spouse loves horror movies 😆
Firefly fanfic! *gasp* 🤣 I love the Wayfarer Series and have been putting off reading the last one as I don’t want it to end - I have to get to it by the end of this year, so I keep telling myself anyway. 😏
😅 Just the first one. And I love Firefly so it's not even that much of a putdown.
Skyward Inn - 🎉🎉🎉 - don't worry, I won't quiz you about the content
@@julesGDSide That's good 😂 I fully intend to read it, but I'm also fully aware that my tbr is beyond ambitious 😅
I like your shirt! My Library only has 6 of the long listed books. I've put Held and My Friends on hold. I've already read Wandering Stars & James, which I enjoyed. I agree with you that it's strange that 2 books haven't been released yet, that seems quite unusual. I think you'd really enjoy The Overstory, it has some great scenes to recall when your mind wanders. I checked out Orbital from Library awhile back but couldn't get into it, perhaps I try again. I enjoy your thoughts.
@@melrose718 Thank you! The shirt is from the podcast Welcome to Night Vale. Recommended if you like weird storytelling. I'm not sure why I haven't read The Overstory. I think maybe I got it too tangled up with The Hidden Lives of Trees and thought it was non-fiction. I'll probably try this new one first and if I like his style I'll pick up Overstory too.
Loved the blurb reading 🤣
@@leeh4343 Thank you, I hope the books live up to their promise 😆
Welcome to Big Book Summer, Leni! I'm glad you discovered the challenge at just the right time and decided to join the fun! Your description of Ducks, Newburyport was hilarious - I love your sense of humor. The Stand is a fabulous book! Stephen King is always a good choice for Big Book Summer. Wow, that is a giant stack of Big Books! Plus, you have more books for Camp Litsy - I really want to read James & have heard All Fours is strange but good. Enjoy all your books this summer! And thanks for linking your video on my blog - I'll share it on social media. Nice to "meet" you!
Thank you, Sue. I love the whole concept of Big Book Summer. I definitely recommend James (even if it's under 400 pages). It fixes everything I disliked about The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and highlighted almost all the things I liked.
My paperback copy of Butter has 452 pages so I think it definitely counts, regardless of format. 😊
Big Book Butter it is then! 😄
Repetition of phrases in books DRIVES ME INSANE! Good luck with Ducks! 😆
Thank you. The fact is it's slow going 🤪
Restless Dolly Maunder surprised me as well, but I haven't read it yet so I'll see if I enjoy it! I am hoping to also get back into reading some other books that aren't WPF, I do have a bit of a growing list, including a book a coworker lent me so I need to get to that soon haha! Enjoy the new series you'll be starting :)
Thanks! Hope your coworker's book is a good one. And Dolly was alright, but just... not top six for sure.
I would have loved to see And Then She Fell as well! Yes, I'm still not over Wandering Souls not making it last year.
I think there's always one or two books. 😅 Glad to see support for And Then She Fell.
@@TheLeniverse I think it did some great things!
I hope you enjoy River East, River West. I wouldn't have put it on my top 6 but I think there were a lot of interesting ideas and topics that it brought up for me. Also, I'm in the minority of people who really loved Dolly Maunder. Also, if you have an Audible account Elijah Wood narrates Huck Finn and it's included in the subscription. It's really a lot of fun. Nick Offerman, the comedian does Tom Sawyer. I think Kilroy is going to win.
@@Showmeyourshelfie I actually started the Elijah Wood audio of Huckleberry Finn yesterday. I found it in my library app. He's doing a great job with it.
I would be happy if this was the shortlist!! Not long til we find out 😊
I'm glad they're not going to make us wait all day! 😅
I think your chosen list would definitely be a strong one, I enjoyed all of them. I would like to see Nightbloom there
I thought the first narrative in Nightbloom was a bit weak, but the rest of the book was great. I could definitely see it on the shortlist, but it didn't quite reach my top 6. I'm excited to find out tomorrow!
Hi Leni, Have just found your channel! It looks like we have very similar reading tastes, so I look forward to watching more of your videos!
Hi Rebecca! It's been almost all Women's Prize so far, but I hope to branch out a bit after tomorrow! 😅
This is so helpful, thank you! Will be recommending to others who are reading from the longlist. I might read these books one day, but I won't read The Blue Beautiful World now unless it makes the shortlist - and if that happens I'll be sure to take your advice about reading the first few pages of book two It's interesting that the judges description was so off for this book - everyone I've seen talking about this book has said the same thing
It's also interesting to me that the publisher would put the third in a series forward for a prize. I suppose it's a small press and if they think this is among their best, they should put it forward. But it doesn't seem the best introduction to her work.
@@EllenFelicity Yes, I really think it does her work a disservice. But on the other hand, it put her on my radar 🤷🏻♀️
The parenting advice was everything ❤thank you! I'm not a parent (yet) and this was just great. Thank you
Thank you! ❤️ I stopped myself from sharing wild anecdotes, but some things needed to be said 😂 Parenting is definitely a co-op venture.
Thanks for the upload.Love listening to your world observations too! Great fun with laughs.
Glad I could entertain 😂
What a fun tradition! Thank you for sharing. Maybe I'll pick The Maiden next as my Easter Crime novel too! Happy reading!
That's the spirit! Good thing you hadn't read that one yet 😄
Hi from Australia! Thank you for sharing this tradition and its history, it was really fun and lovely to learn about it! :)
Thank you for watching and commenting 😊
I'm sneaking in a TE Kinsey "Lady Hardcastle" book over Easter. Maybe two. Cozy mysteries set in the 1910s in a small village near Bristol (mostly). They are my current palate cleansers.
Sounds like very suitable Påskekrim.
Eight Detectives was good!
I'm looking forward to it!
I skipped your review of Brotherless Night because I haven't read it yet. Will come back for it after I've completed it. I did not enjoy Nightbloom. I think maybe it would have been better if the perspectives were alternating chapter by chapter. I did not like the first narrator so I wasn't surprised that I liked Selesi much more than Akorfa. I have no idea why it was called Nightbloom.
I try to stay spoiler free, but I don't even like reading blurbs for fear that they will give too much away so I get it 😅 I think you'll like Brotherless Night though.
I agree about Western Lane leaving me with a feeling that it could have been a bit more. I loved the Wren, The Wren but I listened to it. It was well produced and Ann Enright read the Carmel parts. I just loved the balance between humor and sadness. It took me on a good ride with great prose.
Yes, I can see how audio might elevate the experience. I don't do a lot of audio, but sometimes it works better. Better yet, maybe I should have read along whilst listening.
Hello Levi! I also love how books transport me to another place far away. I read Soldier Sailor and loved it. I do think it would be like re-living the trauma of early motherhood but that aside the actual craft and language were just spectacular. So happy to be a part of this international bookclub where we are all reading, discussing and posting about the same books at the same time. Clicking on your other videos now!
Thank you! I'm starting to feel less intimidated by Soldier Sailor due to all the rave reviews. And it really is like an international book club, isn't it. So much fun! 😄
Thanks for the reviews❤
Thanks for watching and commenting ❤️
Great review!❤
Oh, thank you ☺
Biography of x looks interesting. Love to hear your thoughts on it.
I need to remember to do a proper review of it, but the Women's Prize has kind of taken over my life now 😂
Thanks for the reaction video the sci fi one appeals to me most followed by tge sri lanken one/civil war novel. Many Thanks.
Thanks for watching. Spoiler free reviews coming.
Oh fab list of books! Very excited about Tuesday! I have Orbital on my kindle, sounds like I need to move it up my pile!
I'd say Orbital is another of those you need to be in the right mood for. It's short but not really a quick read. But yes, so excited for Tuesday. Wheee! 😁
Hi Leni, welcome to the creative side of Booktube. Love your predictions, some new books for me to check out and any list that predicts Enter Ghost and Julia are pretty good with me. 😊
Thank you! Wow, I found something you hadn't heard of! I'll count that as an achievement 😄
Fab video! Looking forward to the next one
Thank you! Currently editing, and it will hopefully be uploaded later today.
Welcome to Booktube matey! Looking forward to seeing all your thoughts on this years Women’s prize 🎉
Thank you 😁 I have made my predictions, so now we'll just have to wait and see. Very excited for Tuesday.
Well done taking the first step with BookTube! It definitely takes a while to stop feeling awkward in front of the camera… tbh I still feel pretty awkward 😂 Love to see your thoughts and plans on the challenge!
Right, it's a new month now. 😱 I better find a short Oscar winner 😅
Congratulations on your first video!
Great video. I look forward to the next one with your predictions on the Women’s Prize longlist.
