    The answer to the goblin riddle is that you ask one of the goblins “which direction would the other goblin tell me to go?” if you’ve asked it to the truth telling goblin he’ll say the wrong answer (as hes just saying what the lying goblin would say), and if you ask it to the lying goblin he will also say the wrong answer (as he would be lying about what the truth telling goblin said) so whatever direction they tell you that the other goblin would tell you to go in, you go the opposite way :)

      If the Germans captured an airman or found a body that could be identified, they would inform the Swiss Red Cross about it. To hopefully add more to the story. A bomb group had 4 squadrons. Typically 3 squadrons from the group would be despatched on a sortie. 3 groups made a wing, all wings then made a division. The 100th were part of the 13th combat wing with the 95th and the 390th and in the 3rd Air Division. The higher up ranks Majors, Colonels etc didn’t have to fly but often chose to. As bad as it was for them, it was worse for the other taskforces as germans had time to move fighters out of range into the area and fly multiple sorties hitting them in and out. Reason I'm saying this is because it seems you guys have to make a choice as to whether or not you should pause your video when you're making comments so that you don't have another issue where you're talking over important dialogue that's happening on the show!! Either you're going to have to pause the video and do your commenting OR try to STOP commenting over dialogue!! NOW, if that's an inconvenience to the folks on patreon that might be watching along with you guys for the full episode reaction THEN I guess that's something THEY'RE going to have to live with!!! BUT for you guys to be in the dark about what's actually going on for the better part of a complete episode and the beginning of another one is not really going to do a reaction channel very good!! I am a huge MOA fan. It started slowly for me, but I ended being totally absorbed by it. It tells exactly the story it needed to tell. That said, My Uncle was in 506th 101st AB and spent time in Easy and HQ companies...knew all the guys in BoB and actually carried a radio, at some point, for Winters.

      @@Gaughans My Uncle Louis B ( Shorty ) Flores, wasn't portrayed in BoB, but it was cool finally seeing everywhere he was ( he made it all the way through without major injury. He didn't talk a lot to me about it. He told me about the cold in Bastogne, shooting a Tiger tank with a bazooka and the round just bouncing off, He said, ( in his Louisiana accent - Like Doc Roe's ) " That turret started turning toward us little Jim, so I told my buddy we better lite out of heah". So they did.... Busting into a room full of German officers looking at a map on a table and his Thompson misfired, so he and his buddy ran. Lot's of others i heard through my Dad. He did get a Luger though, lol. Oh, and he loved Winters btw. My Uncle was the coolest, most squared away/situationally aware person I have ever met. Not surprising he made it.

    For more background information read: "The Masters of the Air" by Donald L. Miller, "Into the Cold Blue" by John F. Homan, "Luck of the Draw" by Frank Murphy and especially "A Wing and a Prayer" by Harry S. Crosby. Crosby was one hell of a good navigator, as you will come to see. And if you haven't seen it yet, watch the older movie "12 O'clock High" Starring Gregory Peck - it includes footage of actual German fighter attacks on B-17's. Gripping.

    They will jettison the bombs for a few reasons. Yes, they are armed and you don’t want to land with spicy boom booms in your belly. But also just the weight, an extra 8k lbs makes a huge difference in slow speed flight characteristics during landing. Less allows you to go slower, more you wouldn’t stop

    • @Gaughans
      @Gaughans 10 днів тому

      "Spicy boom booms" is my new favorite name for a bomb! The weight and how that affects speed when landing is yet another factor of that I hadn't considered. Makes so much sense.

    You randomly popped up on my YT home page tonight. Please consider the movie "Greyhound" with Tom Hanks (Apple). It's a film about troop transport's and supply ships' journey between mainland Europe and the UK during WWII, something I'd never thought about. Not a whole lot of depth of story and characters; it should have been a 2 or 3 part series.

    There were several reasons that LeMay ordered them to take off. Bomber warfare was a new thing and very controversial at the time and all through the 1920's and 30's. It's proponents were the most powerful voices in the Air Corps and came to be known as the "Bomber Mafia." There was extreme pressure coming from Washington to prove the concept and this was an enormously important mission for them. Also to try and land in Africa at night would be almost impossible and taking off any later would have forced the issue.

    There's many different stories as to what happened to Lt. Curtis Biddick and his plane/crew. The main battle reports state that the plane took direct hits to the fuselage causing a fire. Biddick hit the bailout bell and while he was holding the plane level the fire consumed the cockpit. His copilot Richard "Dickey" Snyder attempted to bail out the cockpit window but he did not survive. The plane eventually exploded in the air and never crash landed. I'm guessing the creators of the show went a different route to show Biddick's heroism, either way, he and the many other servicemen lost are also heroes.

    They had to show biddicks death different because in reality a oxygen fire happened and he burned alive. Also some radio men said they could hear him scream as the plane went until it went below the clouds. True horror, the mental strength of these airmen to go back up everyday was truely something.

      It isnt sure if he was burned alive by the fire, but i know that the reason he tried to land was not because he was trying to save his co pilots life he was probably dead instantly, he tried to land because he couldnt exit the cockpit with this fire behind him, its awful imagine that

      @@Gaughans just like the British and commonwealth pilots from countries like Australia and Canada etc they didn't have much choice once you joined up. I had two relatives in in RAAF ( royal Australian air force) One flew with bomber command and survived that he sent a letter to his mother saying he was bored with the bomber's then transferred to the pathfinders flying mosquito planes in front of the bomber's dropping flares on targets was shot down in his first flight with those. The other was shot down and captured by the Japanese on the last day of the war he was excuted by them. His father had warned him that the planes weren't to safe. His father had served with the 1st AIF through ww1 put his age up to join and was not to impressed by the planes he saw in that war . He had to lower his age to join in ww2 and survived fighting the Japanese.

      @@Gaughansthat VERY question is the reason that I believe that THESE bomber crews were probably THE bravest of ALL the soldiers or Marines that faught in World War II. Obviously, not to take ANYTHING away from the brave men who we followed in Band of Brothers OR the brave men that fought in the Pacific!! BUT, for ME, the difference is, Europe on the ground and the Pacific on the ground were almost ALWAYS constant battle or at least the threat of constant battle!! They didn't have a place that they could safely stay AFTER every battle OR mission that they did in either the Pacific or the European theater after D-Day!! But these bomber Crews went out into the hell of these missions and THEN went back to England and pretty much lived like a normal civilian for a few hours OR a day or two!! They had hot food, warm beds, female company, alcohol, all the comforts of home!! The Band of Brothers soldiers and the Pacific soldiers or Marines did not HAVE that luxury!! But I say it's more of a curse than a luxury BECAUSE they're in lies the extraordinary bravery that THESE men in the 8th Air Force, particularly the 100th Bomb group that we follow here, were displaying!! It's got to be much MORE difficult to climb back into a plane AND face almost certain death once you've gotten back to England safely one time, AND THEN, to HAVE to do it 25 times in order to be sent home, is almost unfathomable!!! It takes a special kind of human being to be able to do that!!❤❤❤
