    The light will hit the full body with any size modifier. It's just how far back you need to pull it to cover the full body. This was a reasonable review. At least you weren't just drinking the Brandon Cole koolaid just because. How he sells the modifier is a bunch of bullsh*t, though, citing fake physics and stuff but in certain situations I can see this modifier working well. But there's NOTHING special about it other than the fact that it's more inefficient than basically every other modifier on the market. A lot of people don't have 600W lights and it's wild to me that you should HAVE to have one for a 40" modifier to be safe when lots of modifiers of the same size and larger can be used with an AD200 and AD300. I know one thing I'd never use this for is HSS outdoors (I use ND filters anyhow as I don't like HSS) but I'm not hating on anyone who uses it. I myself want to try it one day. I know one advantage this has over a lot of other softboxes is that when your light can't go down to a low enough power with other modifiers, this softbox has got you covered lol. This will get you down to the exposure you need. I laugh but that's a legit advantage. I might use this more for indoor shoots. I don't know. I'll try both once I get the opportunity to shoot with one.

    Great video , im thinking about getting this for my BTS photography. How's the weight when shooting with it and you think this is still a good investment for content creation after 2 years ? Keep up the great work.

      Yeah it’s good. The weight is definitely noticeable depending on your set up. Mine is usually a R5 plus grip with a 28-70mm. So I would be mindful about that and looking up a cage to make it comfortable

    If you're thinking of buying ANYTHING from Sunny16, be sure to read the NEGATIVE reviews. There are MANY, mostly having to do with returns. They scam people out of their money on returns. If you doubt what I say, got to the BBB's website where they have an "F" rating. Look at all the negative press on Amazon, Walmart, B&H and other web sites. They scammed me on my return, so JUST DON"T GO THERE!!! You should run away now.

  • @mjgracin1883

    I do not know what DCAII said about the Voyager Cam bag. I don't need to know, because I bought it. The worst part is the company is dishonest. They promised the bag by a specific date. It didn't come in time, and I left the country with a competitor's product. My son refused the shipment at the USPS, it went back to Sunny16 and they refused to credit my account any money. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM SUNNY16. THEY ARE DISHONEST.

I have a 3 legged thing tripod already that I bought years ago and it’s odd because it’s holding up well but also not. Great video. I was thinking about this myself and don't know how I missed this video. But it was like whenever I want to see people using this dish, there were just the videos of people taking photos of white walls trying to convince everyone how bad it is and saying "inverse square law" a lot. I want to see someone use it in a real photoshoot other than Brandon. I always think... "You have the dish, even if you don't like it, use it in a shoot, show is the results... Why waste having it on taking photos of white walls" 😂😂😂

      Well, it's to show you the inefficiency of it. I'm pretty sure the light out of it is fine but needing to push your light a whole stop, stop and a half is wild. But the wall tests are to show you exactly what you're getting in terms of falloff and power.

    Shine enough light onto black will make it grey, and even more light will make it close to white thats why the softbox still produces light at the expense of wasting power. Bro said the quality is good but struggle to open it 😅 i though good quality is fluid mechanics and ease of use 🤔. You really think anyone "seasoned photographer " with experience will wake up one day and say they want a softbox that waste light.

    Out of curiosity, how many Glow EZ Lock modifiers have you went through? Because people often talk about the build quality but for the price point, I feel they're built decent all things considered.

    • @deancharlesanthonyii
      @deancharlesanthonyii Рік тому

      What’s up, man, and I’ve owned 3 models, the 22in, 36in, and 60in( excuse if I missed sized one). I do believe the Glow softboxes are priced well. I know for me, I had issues within a year of shooting having a wire start poking through the end fabrics-particularly the 60in and 36in. But at the price range, it is more reasonable for something like that to happen to me. Compared to this I feel confident that I want have this same issue.

    Great review man. Props to you for being brave enough to make a review on a controversial product! I used it myself for a few minutes at the photo walk in Vegas a few months ago and I loved the images I got from it. So to your point yes it does work. It's a 40-inch soft box. So light is going to come out and be soft light. BUT! Like you also said you will have to use more power than you would a conventional white or silver interior. And also once you dial it in, the results aren't much different than any other softbox. To your point about the price, I don't think the price dictates how good of a photographer you need to be to buy it. I would argue that based on Brandon's marketing and his message that this softbox was made to make using flash easier for those with less experience. Anyone seasoned enough to know better probably wouldn't buy a 40-inch black softbox in the first place, unless it was to support Brandon Cole. Oh, and the build quality is amazing. But for the price, it has no choice but to be.

      This right here. If it requires MORE power from my strobe to generate what can be generated with my existing modifiers, then it doesn't seem to have much value. It seems like it's just blasting an open head light through a diffusion material. I still haven't seen any value in this.

      @jasonbodden8816 Місяць тому

      I've learned some stuff from him as well but you have to sift sense from nonsense with him (and other UA-cam "educators"). Nobody was being hurtful to Brandon. It's one thing to peddle a black modifier (which in itself is iffy from a logical perspective), it's another thing to double down on completely inaccurate physics to sell your modifier to people who don't know better. Totally incorrect bullsh*t he's spewing to people to sell his modifiers. THAT'S the issue a lot of people, including me, have. Black does NOT produce softer light, though if you go by what he says, it does. Things like that is why people come at him, not because they're trying to be hurtful or spiteful. Overzealous fans of his believe everything that comes out of his mouth without thinking for themselves. And of course, playing the race card as well. Mind you, Cole is the same person who told ME in the comment section of one of his videos that the large, translucent shoot-through umbrella he used is NOT a light modifier because it doesn't modify the light, it just changes the path of the light *smfh*. Horse sh*t like that. And what the hell is the point of a BLACK deflector plate?

  • @Lucy-dk5cz
    @Lucy-dk5cz Рік тому

    So you bought an expensive inefficient modifier. Also, just because something is expensive doesn’t mean it’s premium. Also, in the start of the video you say this is a great build quality but later in the video you admit this is the most expensive one you have purchased. If you are comparing anything to newer you are going to get better build quality. But you clearly haven’t tried any decent brands because you are relying on UA-cam over hyped junk.

    It's a 40". Just put it on the floor and press the inside on all sides down a few at a time. That's the easiest, fastest way I've found to open it. Pulling it the way you did is unnecessary work. Brandon Cole talks nonsense about the black interior making the light softer. Obviously, that's not true at all. The only thing this beauty dish will do that's unique to all other collapsible beauty dishes is that it will tame specular highlights in a big way, which in itself is a great thing. to collapse it again I lightly pound the knobs down very quickly with the back of a pen knife or something.
