    Habitat for Humanity only helps certain people. They ignored me and I now have to sit in my home at night and hope a gunshot doesn't come through my window and hit me or my little dog. Thanks for nothing, Habitat.

    I got a place in Georgia thru this program and to be honest, it's cheaper than paying re t but more stressful because H.O.A requires you to have multi yearly services from pressure washing your drive, to roof inspections. Plus the hoa fees and mandatory costs of land tree maintenance. It's not what I thought it would be

    I wanted to go through this program as I was interested in homeownership. But I'm a single man, no family or anything. Just a kind of low income around 35k per year. I've always been wanting to volunteer and I wanted to go through the program and put in sweat equity to learn to build my own house and maybe even pick up a contracting career as a carpenter. Before I had bought a house I tried to apply but I think they said I didn't make enough money to apply for the program. Whatever the case I was not a candidate for it. I have a house now but it's old and kind of kicking my ass as far as repairs and keeping it going. Since I've been in it I've been spending upwards of 3 to 6k per year keeping it up and it's only a small 2 bedroom house. Had I been able to get a new house keeping it up wouldn't have been any problem at all. My sister has a 2 story huge 4 bedroom new house and her power bill is around 100 dollars. In my tiny home mine was upwards of 200 dollars just to keep the place heated and cooled and I'm barely ever even home lol. If I was in a newer home Id actually be saving money or being able to pay extra towards my mortgage. Seems like habitat isn't always getting to the people that need the help the most. There should also be a program directed at people who are already homeowners who are low income that need repairs done to keep them in their houses. I'm afraid at some point I won't be able to keep this house of cards from falling down on me and I end up losing everything I worked hard for.

      No you need a job median credit score etc

    • @jessicaortiz4574
      @jessicaortiz4574 3 роки тому

      You probably wouldn't qualify right now. If you don't have a job, you should start with that. Get a secured credit card. Meaning you pay from your own money to be put into a card. Those cards usually start at $200 and up. You only use less then 30% of the amount you put in. Never spend more. So just use it to pay Netflix or something small like that. Make sure you pay it on time. That's how you will be able to establish credit. Start saving money now even if it's only $50 a month. So by the time you're in a better place you'll have money for a down payment and closing cost. It's good that your looking into it now. I'm 30 years old and barely starting this process. Good luck.

    This is hardly "affordable housing", none making under at least $50,000 a year can buy it, and this isn't the sort of "affordable housing" we need anyway because we need "low-income housing", "subsidized" etc. This place is just a panacea for you wealthy people and does nothing for the people you're paying slave wages to.

    • @adntigger71015

      Depends on the cost of living in your area. 80% of median income in my area is under $99k. Wealthy is subjective to the cost of living. $50K in NYC, San Francisco, etc you're in poverty, but you're doing just fine in Mississippi.
