We are - Aron & Jennifer Toland. Cast members on History Channels ‘Mountain Men’ (Season 12). Seven years ago, we escaped the "Rat Race"; and now thrive extremely far off the grid! A remote commercial fishing resort @ Eliguk Lake in BC Canada's West Chilcotin. We want to offer others a chance to experience this remote way of life, and learn about the skills it takes to live it. We kinda figured it all out and want to show you how! We hope to enlighten you with our channel! Please stay tuned and subscribe as we fix up this once abandoned fishing resort at 3600’ in zone #1 of beautiful British Columbia.
Milling & Building an Off Grid Wood Fired Greenhouse in Zone 1 - Start to Finish.
Mountain Man, Aron and wife, Jennifer come up with a dream build for their self sustainability being so far off the grid. The importance of feeding themselves in between the few and far between trips into civilization is crucial to their well being and comes in very handy when cooking farm to table menu fare for Summer fishing guests. The greenhouse build was started in 2017 and took 2 years to complete. The first planting was Spring of 2019 and so far there have been 6 great years of succession planting in the wood fired greenhouse.

Mountain Men, Could You Live This Life?
Переглядів 13 тис.Місяць тому
December at Eliguk is all about firewood. Once the wood shed is filled, Aron likes to keep using standing dead (beetle killed) Spruce instead of pulling from the wood shed while the snow accumulation holds off. Daily water is fetched for dishes and clean-up, just another day in the life of a Mountain Man.
Transitioning to a Silent Winter Off the Grid

At Eliguk Lake, wilderness resort hosts Aron & Jennifer wait for the deep freeze to hit, which will freeze-up the lakes enough to travel on. Right now in November, there's only a few inches and they like to have a foot of good ice before they use it. Another foot of snow would allow them to travel on the rough trails with snow machines. With the last few wind storms the lake ice has cracked and...

Our friends at Nimpo Lake just witnessed this on their lake. First time they have seen this. Great video. Sent them this link.
Your video reminded me of our years living at Anahim Lake, fishing the lake and the Dean. My friend, Al Elsey, had videos made c. 1950's of Eliguk lake which were great. We knew Bob and Ginny Stewart of Nimpo too. Very fond memories of hunting and fishing with some great people. Really muss the Chilcotin. Cheers.
For that view - Yes, I could live that life!!!! I had to edit my comment because I just realized you are the couple from TV!!!!! New sub for sure.
😂Thanks for subscribing Steve!
this looks like tough living
It is, but humbling and rewarding at the same time.
That’s both beautiful and amazing, well done you two ❤️
Looks good!
Awesome
I'm green with envy , it's rocks . Enjoy .
Nice compilation Jen. What a cute shot of Tundra as a puppy!

Hello there, May I share the most important news with you ever before? God the Father sent his Holy Son Jesus (Y'shua) to earth to be born of a virgin. He grew up and died on the cross for our sins. After that they put Him in a tomb for 3 days, and on the 3rd day Abba Father raised Jesus to life and He appeared to people. Then Christ ascended back to heaven. We all must genuinely believe in Christ and receive Him into our life as Savior to be saved. John 1:12 says: " But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." Will you put genuine faith in Christ and receive Him into your life today?
Incredible videography. What kind of camera are you using? Keep up the content I subscribed.
Thank you for subscribing! I’m only using my iPhone 12S, I don’t have cell service but it’s the handiest recording device for this lifestyle.
Thats a mighty fine looking cabin for a mountain man. I have lived in Alaska all my life 77 years and never lived on the road system until 20 years ago. I had to move to the road system to be near medical because of complications from exposure to Agent orange. But, I live in the mountains ⛰️ outside a small village. Completely off grid.
Wow, that’s amazing you’re still able to be in the wilderness (even if there’s a road attached to it), we could only hope to be as fortunate. Take care ❤
Hope ypu are able to see / be in your mountains for your last breath. Peace Sir !
Could I live the true mountain man lifestyle, yes; it wouldn't be easy, but I could do it
Life during the good days, been doing this shit for 24 years. Three knee replacements, back surgery, carpal tunnel in both hands, oestoauthritice throughout. It used to be so nice. Now I'm ready to leave. 71 years old can't cut thecwood anymore!!!!
Wow that’s a lot! We’ve broken a few bones out here, and I just had carpal tunnel done. It’s a tough life for sure, but the rewards are great. I don’t know what we will do when the time comes to have to leave 😢. Wish you all the best.
@Aron-JenniferToland thank you, young man! You'll do just fine. Just pay attention to the symptoms!
absolutely beautiful place! doing a fine job there sir!
No. I admire anyone who can but I'm too accustomed to hot/cold running water for showers and toilets, washing clothes. At 72 my adventure days are over.
Do it all the time. That's enough firewood for 2-3 days full burn. It should have been cut and split months in advance. Luv the cabin & lake.
@@ratbikerustygold3398 gosh if only you could walk through our 50% dead forest, you’d understand. Our wood dries off the ground and is long dead years before we turn it into firewood. Going on 9 Winters burning nothing but beetle kill as that’s all we have. No need to split it in advance when it’s already dry.
In a heartbeat.
This is not a mountain man in the true sense. There would be no gasoline, ATV, trucks , large bank accounts like this guy has
Oh? A large bank account? 😂 If only… This is only when I catch him working around the resort. I can’t film him when he’s climbing mountains and gone for days. Most people like to assume, but we’re still here living our dream 😊
As someone who also lives primarily off grid in the mountains… I liked and subscribed when this popped up. Partially because of asinine comments like this one. Keep it up and enjoy the good life.
@ it takes someone who also lives off grid to understand; much appreciated for your subscribing ❤️
Yes. Yes I could.
Hi Jen and Aaron, I see winter has arrived. I only see 3 dogs. Did you give Brook away. Wow the lake is already frozen over. Wow lots of hard work for only a weeks fire. It's only been 4 months and I really miss it up there. You two take care, and have a Merry Christmas!
Hi! Yes, Winter is finally here. Waiting for freeze-up and more snow. Yes, we found a ‘Urban’ home for Brook with a friend and she’s doing great. Have a Merry Christmas 🎄 ❤
I’d love to be able to live my life like that but unfortunately I never will be able too… that’s the kind of life I always pictured for myself since I was a kid
Can I ask why not?
That ramp could become a slippery slide if you're not careful. Oops!
I'm solo, 4 years now boat, float plane and sled access only and just broke my record of 27 days in my woods, gonna be another week or so before I can cross the lake safely to get supplies 😉. Much respect. I'm on Burns Lake
Wonderful! Nice to know there’s others so remote! It’s an incredible adventure. Longest I’ve stayed in the wilderness was over a year, now I go to town once or twice a year. Arön does the supply runs solo.
Hello and Howdy there, I was wondering, if I can share with you the most important thing ever in life. God the Father sent His holy Son Jesus to earth, to be born of a virgin. He grew up and died on the cross for our sins. Then He was put into a tomb for 3 days, after that Abba Father raised Jesus to life.He appeared to people, and went back to heaven. We all must sincerely receive Jesus into our life to be God's child. John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name" Will you today genuinely by faith receive Jesus into your life for salvation?
Thk you, i needed this today
Wow beautiful footage ❤ what kind of drone are you using Jennifer?
DJI Mini 2
@ thanks 😊
Looks beautiful! Merry Christmas and may you have a Prosperous and Happy New Year!
Thank you! We wish you the same!
Never heard of that brand of sawmill but I've never seen a blade changed that easy and quick
Great company on Vancouver Island, very user friendly & reliable. Been using it for years.
That was a fantastic job building that Picnic Table Aaron. Thanks for sharing with us, stay safe and keep up the great fun up there. Fred.
Thanks Fred! It’s never a boring day off the grid! Have a good Winter, stay warm!
❤ beautiful video
Would love to be the caretaker
We do require caretakers once a year!
Absolutely LOVE this. ❤
Yummy🎉🎉mouthwatering 🎉🎉appetizing and tempting ❤❤stay connected 🎉🎉
Down here in South Georgia where the majority of what i cut is yellow pine (Long Leaf, Loblolly and Slash) I use something called Cotton Picker Spindle Cleaner keeps the blade cool and the pine sap doesn't stick I mix it 1 Oz to a gallon of water. A 1 gallon jug is about $20.00 on line.
It’s a good tip, thanks. I’m milling all the time and that would be pricey for me. My mixture it is only a few cents per gallon and works well, no gumming up or sticking.
Lol, not if he can help it!
That’s a cool sawmill 👍😊 the windshield washer is a great idea, but will Aron wash dishes 😉
thank you
Sitting just watching and listening to a fireplace, wood stove or fire pit are pretty up there on my favourite things to do 👍😊
I could sit for hours an watch the flames
Yes, I consider it one of the best parts of a cold climate Winter!
Do you know how far north potatoes will grow?
I’m in zone 1 at 3600’. We covered them several times during frost. We also couldn’t plant them until July 2nd because of a cold Spring. But most early potatoes just need a couple months in the ground.
Yes, potatoes will grow just about anywhere, thanks for sharing your experiment..new friend here from Growing My Own.
Great video of Aron 👍😊 definitely one very talented guy 🍻
Can't wait to get back
Admirable. Where do you go with the Jeep on the barge?
Sometimes our back trail is too rough and I can bypass it using the barge.
This is awesome
That worked out really well 👍😊 be careful that Spuds 🐶 doesn’t steal all of them and carry them away 😂 Aron needs to watch out for the Mothers 🤪 those lil potatoes would be delicious in the frying pan 🤤
