    Broadband is expensive and without copper line you will be forced to use broadband with fibre so that telephone could cost you a lot more once the copper connection is gone.

    The copper line is far better quality. It is also far more reliable. Power outages do not affect the copper line as there are back up generators at the exchanges. Nothing repeat nothing can beat the copper line. I have a copper line to our local exchange and also have very fast broadband through the copper line. Wi-Fi throughout my house means I have all the facilities I need. I am going to cling on to my copper line as long as possible or until I see something better, which there is nothing better at the present time. I suspect the wolves are looking at all that copper that can be got from the BT underground cables. Remember once gone never to be got back. No doubt there will be incentives on offer to ditch that copper wire coming into your house soon. One of the tricks up their sleeve is to cause the master socket to fail by simply applying a voltage that can cause it to fail…. Very easily done. The cost of repair could be quite high as it entails a visit to replace the socket. But we shall see how this goes over the years as some people cling to their copper connection. Then there is the security issue….copper is very secure unless the law is broken and someone taps into your copper line.

      Festival the local exchange is no longer exist because they are replace with green cabinets on the side of the road or equipment exchange building which isn’t exchanges due to the fact it still goes through the Internet on the old system. It’s not reliability to do with simply you could get a factory back up a couple lines are way less reliable.

    Once again someone with a very low knowledge base trying to sound good. Power outages in rural areas are going to be a problem, a big problem. Just looking at the comment, you will need a Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), what a throw away comment. Firstly how long will you need your UPS to last? How much will it be? Plus who will pay? Simply the longer you need it to last the more it will cost, BT offer a 60min back up battery for around 60min of use which of course they will sell you. Yet some power outages can be 12 hours plus and in rural areas even longer. Mobile coverage is not that hot in large areas of the uk so you can't rely on using a mobile to summon help and of course with no power how do you recharge it. I wonder when the first death of an individual will be attributed to a fibre optic power failure?

    • @UKsystems
      @UKsystems 13 днів тому

      Well how long your uninterruptible power supply will last has to be calculated based on your individual installation doesn’t it? And how long power outages are for you? Need to really think about that because someone like a place at a farm especially a dairy farm would have to have a battery back up generator but certain things, well in that case of the Internet goes in there they need a UPS that may be last a few minutes to stop any interruption I have the cost varies but the thing is the initial unit could be a little bit expensive but every 56 years of battery is warning replacing but they’re about £20 each and they generally have two

    Great if it works a family member was switched over to fibre plugged in the adaptor sent in the post and no phone line working? Cannot receive or make calls so has to ring up provider on mobile says they'll reset and re-register the number and it could take 48 hours. 48 hours later it still didn't work, so she range up again, lucky she has a mobile as some do not, re-registered again another 2 days still not working, now she's waiting for an engineer to come out, and needs compensation for the landslide. If this happened to elderly people with no home phone on their own what are they suppose to do!? @StuffJason437

      The hole copper network system is getting switched off in 2025, you either switch over to fibre or get left without service. Btw, you can still use old phones over the fibre network just have to plug the phone directly into BT's new routers, now if they are analogue phones got to buy converter that plugs inbetween the phone and the phone port on the back of BT's new routers.

    was hoping this was a guide on how to keep the copper. bt are bullying my 86yr old mum into having digital voice. she lives in a remote house 1km from nearest neighbour and regularly (most recent being last week) gets power cuts .I am convinced bt are doing this change to maximise profits for them and their shareholders, not caring what vulnerable customers want or need.

      That ability will go when the voice network is turned off. They have options of using mobile phones or having backup power on their router and phone to keep it powered during an outage. Routers and a phone are not heavy power devices and a UPS battery would only need to be on the smaller side unless they expect multi hour outages.

    Hi John - we were one of the first areas to go completely FTP ( fibre to premises). We could have remained on the old copper line but only with a rolling contract at nearly twice the price. So in effect we were forced to change. Sadly the roll out here has been plagued with issues. After almost 12 months of problems we waved goodbye to BT and installed VOip. I wont bore you and others with the details but every engineer ( and there were lots of them ) that tried to fix the faults said the system was a mess. Lack of training, testing equipment and support were common comments. We moved to Virgin as they use their own lines and pay for internet only with a VOip telephone that costs pennies to use.

    • @westwayit
      @westwayit Рік тому

      There are so many variations of what is available, some places have choice of Virgin, or a FTTP provider while others have only one unless they opt for alternative solutions like satellite or mobile. There was a business I spoke to who in the process of moving premise and upgrading internet connection lost their phone number, they had to have a new one with completely different area code, that was BT who I do not think understood the importance of keeping the number.

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt Рік тому

      @@westwayit Mmmm. sadly BT have gone well down in my estimation. We run two online businesses which suffered as a result of continuous loss of internet service. Over the course of 12 months the router was blaimed and replaced no less than 6 time. On each occasion the router would get so hot you could hear the case cracking followed by a loss of service. In the end we gave BT an ultimatum to fix it or give our money back. They opted for the latter. We chose Virgin as that use their own cabling. When the contract is up we'll consider another ISP like City Fibre. Again they use their own cabling. Maybe by then BT will have sorted themselves out. Oh and BTW we have more BT engineers working in the surrounding roads than ever. All trying to fix the same faults we had. Shame to see a good service ruined by a lack of testing and cheap hardware.
