I upgraded to this kit. Good idea BUT the quality control sucks my van has been down now for over 2 months. I was lucky enough to get a set of the bad gears. This means I have to disassemble everything and find a machinist to make the repair. Then find a time that works for my mechanic to reinstall. For the price I was expecting more.

Wow! Your shop is amazing. I own a 89 Vanagon in California, and I am very interested in the 2.5 w/4EAT. In regard to donor car trans, what inspections and service should I do to ensure long life in my Vanagon? Donor will be 00-04 Outback. Thanks for the guidance!

The VW allows "flipping" the Ring gear, commonly used in Formula Vees, for example. Is the Subi not a symmetrical gear housing?

Cool. How about the ring and pinion gears? Now the pinion gear's teeth will be bearing on the ring gear teeth's back faces. To the ring and pinion it will now be like they're always running in reverse.

Is this a standalone controller? Can it be used on Subaru vehicles with 4eat? Would it be possible to use a paddle shifter?

Nice! The transfer gear plate is an ingenious design - I see it pilots into the lower bearing location. Pretty quick to install the kit too. Must be quite robust with the gears to handle the loads needed to push around those big, heavy campers in the video?!
