Prep for Chrome 2024
The 1KHP K12 Nissan March is getting a little attention prior to Chrome NZ at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park August 2,3,4
There's some basic maintenance and a couple of small mods just to try and keep on top of the little gremilns that pop up with this sort of thing.

About five years ago I posted a very very quick rough video of this beasty and with no drive. Today I finally had the chance to grab some slightly better footage and go for a very sedate drive in the lovely Waikato weather.

FINALLY we are getting somewhere again! The mighty VG30DETT has now got coolant in it and has been run up to temperature and some basic settings sorted in preparation for a tune - eventually!

300ZX progress and a recap on what we've done with the March!
I'm bored so the March gets a new roof!
Переглядів 414Місяць тому
There are loads of other things that need attention on the March but I have to pick and choose jobs carefully in order to get this silly injury out of the way ASAP. So I chopped off the roof and fitted a new one, nice simple light weight low stress work for the hands :) Weight saving: stuff all. Aerodynamic improvement: probably some but not heaps. Looks: well the removal of the vent is subject...
Manta Ray done, Top Force done, RC lab day four

Progress on the build of the RC fleet continues but there is a tiny bit of big car content for you this time :)
RC Lab day three Top Force build "complete"
Переглядів 188Місяць тому
There is a bit of a fleet of RC cars here now and ONE is up and running! The Recently re released Top Force 2017 re release, came out pretty good - but it's going to need mods to chew up more time LOL!!!
Tamiya Top Force 2017 build (RC Lab day two)

I could continue with the original RC project I purchased but the Top Force is much more fun so I make a start on slapping that bad boy together.

NZ Superlap series season final day two.
Переглядів 3222 місяці тому
A silly little injury that unfortunately takes a long time to recover from left us watching from the sidelines instead of attempting to throw down a decent PB at the NZ Superlap Series season final for 23/24. So rather than wasting the spare time I headed along to support some of the other drivers and have a bit of a catch up. Seeing as I can't clap currently I filmed the prize giving for you -...
Handy update and some OLD in car footage Vs new
Переглядів 2402 місяці тому
Sadly there will be no Superlap final round for us, trying to be wise and "do the right thing" giving the injury some time to heal. But check out the in car footage from the 2017/2018 season Vs our PB (with a sore hand) from a little while ago - HUGE difference!
First track test with 1KHP tune

After adding a couple of extra sensors to check on how things will go with the new stresses they will have to suffer through I headed to our local track to put things to the test! If you get your stop watch out for the last lap of the track session shown here you'll note it's a sub 1.08 lap! :D pretty happy with dipping into the sevens with this beasty

tps look different
It'd be a shame to put that crappy dash back into the car. You definitely need to make a nice new shiny carbon one. Think of all the weight you'll save too.
Nicely explained. Weird brake problem for sure, especially on wheel side only
👍🏻🍺👏
Wahoo early ish for once
👏🍺👍🏻
Its not just the tron on fridays. It's the whole north island.
ha ha ha!!! very true, people need to just chill and not be in such a mad rush to get somewhere.
The Z20/24 motors don't like burnouts with no oil, and 7000rpm. Number 3 conrod exits stage left
ha ha ha ha!!! just guessing of course aye LOL!!!
@@TheLabLimited there was a scientific test on national TV back in 2015. Wish I could've kept the D21, I've thought about getting one again and doing a VQ conversion. D21s are lighter than 350Zs haha
If it wasn't for the 6 month warrants, it would almost be a better ute than most others on the road right now
Hi from Tas, i think the original video is how i found you, i had a vg30 pathfinder years ago and loved it. So when i came accros a factory manual vg30 D21 i bought it as a future project. Ill get to it one day.
Hi and thanks for watching! Have got a mate in Tas with a D21 running a VG30DET I swapped a VG30DE into a D21 Kingcab - that was a pretty cool ute :D
Verry cool, Did you get anything with the supercharger VG33ER in NZ. I guess I'd still have to get it from the states?
I love this 😊
How reliable is this engine....why is there alot of bottom end failure?
The bulk of the failures I am aware of come from damage to the sump, oil falls out, driver keeps going = kaboom! There have been a lot killed by the little screws on the throttles for the variable runner setup falling out = knock knock knock as they get smashed into the piston and cylinder head etc. Other than those and general lack of maintenance they are actually pretty good. The current motor in the ute is actually a "junkyard special" I've cobbled it together from several broken motors to make one "good" one. Second hand bearings and rings - rough as guts and it's running like clockwork and has clocked up some decent miles all things considered. The better motor for a D40 V8 conversion is by far the VK56DE though, purely for ease of fittment - it was literally designed to go in there.
I stopped watching when AL retired.
👏👍🏻🍺
Chipmunks bro!
👏🍺👍🏻
Did you have to modify the dwell time for the porsche coils? If so, can you post what settings you ran? Thank you for the amazing content
THANKS! We used 3ms at 14v and reduced it over that voltage, under that voltage it was increased BUT to some extent it's purely "best guess" without actual specs supplied by the coil manufacturer - this is the information you should really be seeking. Talk to your coil supplier and get the chart from them for best results.
Welding level - expert! (I'm zip so don't know better). Yip get wifey into the hard to reach places. All going well might get a few swear words in there....
Fixing yourself and fixing cars
Yeah my heater pipes I just went with the BDE heater pipe kit. Had the choice of 4 or 6 AN fittings on billet blocks that sit underneath the pipes and brand new heater pipes that uses an o ring.
Did glance at those but decided against it, could very very easily make but would rather just make the whole deal from aluminium. Biggest issue here was actually the hoses were old and didn't take kindly to having new fittings put on them. Replaced all hoses, only a couple of pinhole leaks on the actual pipes - problem solved.
Everyone laughs at the work fitness but as someone who has to deal with it i feel the pain. It does get better with time but damn it suxs getting back.
Yip it's a real thing alright and if you try to ignore it it'll kick your ass big time. I've had three or four days of pretty serious back pain just from a couple of relatively light work. It'll come right but not something you want to provoke to often.

Fingers and toes/feet injuries are the worst, so long to recover. Great work and results. Carbon FTW
👍🏻🍺👏
Looks good!
Good to see you doing something when your a bit broken. Wish i had seen them when they came out.
Great work! Better than my current painting efforts 😆
I’m here for the RC action
Don’t bother with that gas car, no parts available
Pretty sure he can make any missing parts without too much trouble...
If we get some fine weather, that track out the back of te rapa straight is alright for a bash. And shocks for the upgrade.
Just got my 2 boys in to rc cars . We now have a sandmaster buggy and a bsd racing buggy . They are loving them. And already have 2 nitro monster trucks. Great fun on the back lawn.
RC car racing helped me setup the full size racecar!
I foresee some CNC in your future
My mill is completely manual - but if I'm just killing time it just makes it take longer 7 I can live with that :)
It make different from 1:1 scale model we used to see in this channel.... 😁
I REALLY want to get back onto the big ones but for now we just have to wait, it's brutal on the channel stats and destroying the growth we had but that's life. thanks for watching though!
You need the curved sossors for that cutting out job . I’m sure Nathon toa will have a set in stock
Oh for sure, I have curved snips in the toolbox in the workshop, just trying to avoid the pressure on the hand as much as possible.
Those GTRs are weapons. 😮
They sure are, good fun giving them a run for their money with a k12 March though :D
Looks great and performs Great
that thing sounds fuckin incredible
Love it Bro, it's literally like hearing my Brother in law talk, it's uncanny. He's a Hamilton boy too.
You can't be injured and performing at safe good work level, it is good to keep moving it without overdoing it. You can't be charging for your time then just stop, not deliver etc
The March looks so much better without the red in the livery. Looks fantastic now! Well done sir.
Carbon FTW
🍺👏👍🏻
Hi Glen, Where did you get the foam from. Might be handy for making a new mountain bike frame for myself. Cheers.
A place in Frsnkton in Hamilton called NZ Polystyrene $60 for a 600 by 2400 by 50mm thick.
@@TheLabLimited Thank you Glen.
Dude idea of the century here Hold my beer... 🗣️You should make March merch
We've toyed with the idea but although I'm sure there would be some support I'm unsure it would be economically viable.
@@TheLabLimited well I'll draw stuff for free so lmk lol
Hopefully the hand heals up soon! Are you expecting much more downforce with the aerofoil (I think) shape vs the thinner existing wing?
It SHOULD make a noticeable amount more downforce given the shape, the lack of rivets on the surface, the lack of the lap joint in a critical area of the wing. At this stage I've not made a Gurney flap for it so it may even out a little without that. I have a heap of foam left over and a bit of time so I can probably make some small sections and experiment to get some real numbers to compare. (set up on scales and provide some air flow over a section, measure weight change)
@@TheLabLimited would be interesting to see testing, I have a very passing knowledge of aerodynamics and would know that in theory there would be a difference with the shapes but I have zero practical experience so it’s always cool to see people actually doing stuff and testing!
Choppy and Poor Audio. You should have watched and listened to your video before publishing. I disliked your video. Please subscribe to your channel. Thanks.
Nice variety of cars
Next time your out watching/filming instead of racing, you're more than welcome to join me up in the startline box for some awesome views/angles. Also is the "most fully wrecked" trophy from your first nissan march? Cause i was up in the starters box when you had the big off at pit entry, was pretty Gnarly to watch.
Supelrap?
ha ha ha!! Yes ummmm it's just like Superlap except it's done really badly like the entire video LOL!! PS: I fixed it thanks :)
