    This is real interesting , these customers are accustomed to DIY and operating on shoestrings. they are not Gwagen customers who can swing $1700 service visits in plush leather and chrome waiting rooms. So you build this great truck out of ( IMO - honestly ) well sourced and chosen mechanically available brands and OEMs with worldwide distribution networks, not direct from rover or Ferrari or McLaren , but Magna and BMW. This is painful to hear but these are somewhat open source mechanicals. But for $85k usd we expect a great experience during the warranty period, and in 3-5 years it will be, but not now. These keys and rims should be the same cost as wrangler parts, they did try to make things simple and field repairable. Painful for new owners, thank you for trusting in the system sir, and for taking a good gamble- you didn’t complain about the design or truck, so they got the most important part right!

    I was excited when I first heard about the INEOS Grenadier and wanted to wait a year or two before buying the car to see initial feedback and customer support. Living in Australia, where it's already quite hard to find parts for major brands, I thought if anyone could make it, it would be an enthusiastic brand like INEOS. I also believed they would make it really reliable. It's been a few years now, and I haven't bought the car yet. This isn't because I was unhappy with it, but because my plans changed. After watching your video, I realized they are a British brand. Why was I believing in them? It makes no sense; British brands don't have a reputation for reliability. Now, I am about to make a deposit to buy my new car and am contemplating between the LCC 300 Nissan Patrol and the INEOS Grenadier. I really like the INEOS Grenadier; it fits all my needs. However, I'm worried about the support I may not be able to get, given that I live in a remote part of Australia.

    Hi John. My Grenadier will be arriving soon, but I am getting increasingly more concerned about this windscreen issue. Every single Grenadier owner whom I have spoken to here in South Africa have had to replace at least 1 windscreen within a very short period of ownership, some even up to 3 windscreens. As I have commented elsewhere on here, I own 2 Defender's, vehicle and windscreen shape more or less the same as the Grenadier. My 2 Defenders have done more than 600 000km's between them and both still have their original windscreens. We regularly drive on some of the worst gravel roads in Southern Africa and I have had several stone strikes, but only 1 very tiny chip on the 1 Defender's windscreen that was easily sorted with sealant. In South Africa, only Ineos can replace the windscreen and it costs almost 5x that of a Defender windscreen. What is going on here? It can be the shape of the vehicle or the windscreen because Defender's don't have a similar problem.

    • @cannyoutdoors
      @cannyoutdoors Місяць тому

      Thank you. Your comment is very interesting. It is hard to explain if it not simply the very upright screen that makes it so vulnerable and your experience seems to indicate that. In my case the stone was large and hit the screen almost centre. I am sure it would have broken the screen of any vehicle. I don’t have an answer. I do know that Ineos behind the scenes are looking ( and possibly testing ) at plastic protection film that may offer some protection. I was fortunate to have 1 screen per year covered by my insurance. Hope this is available in SA. Cheers John

I’ve been absolutely mystified by the nonsense from supposed reviewers and their imagined “deal breakers”. I just wasn’t able to figure out how to make the steering wander, or suffer spinal problems from the footrest, or get a speeding ticket because the speedo is too far away to see, or suffer carpal tunnel syndrome from twisting a key instead of pushing a start button etc. Content from actual owners like yourself is way more informative and enjoyable. G'day John, windscreen damage in the outback is so common. We carry a Ufixit windscreen repair kit sold by Repco for $35 easy to use we stared a screen near Boulia in July last year, on coming motorists not slowing down. Before the star gets dirty, & turn in to a crack it easy job hardly see a mark. What navigation unit are you using? I am getting sick of glitches with our Hema Hn 7. Safe travels.

    • @cannyoutdoors
      @cannyoutdoors Місяць тому

      Yes, I actually have one go those kits (which I have never used yet) but the stone that hit me caused too much damage immediately. We actually had glass on the inside of the vehicle and it sent cracks across the screen straight away. Again a motorist with a box trailer just didn't ease off at all. I use Memory Maps for All with an iPad mini. Downloaded all the maps to the iPad (about $100 for all Australia including all the Hema 4x4 maps) and it is great. I don't use all the features available but I have never had it glitch ever. You can also use the iPad for all the other stuff as well. Thanks for watching and commenting, John

    The issue I have with INEOS is they claim they built a no frills simple vehicle for the Everyman but they haven’t. Why is so much if it electronic?! The centre diff could have been manual like in a landrover and the axle diffs could have been air. The winch could just have e normal switch instead of electronic. It could have had analogue speedo and rev counter, even oil pressure, temperature, fuel and water could all be analogue so that the Everyman can easily fix or change them plus they are more reliable over time. There are far too many sensors all over it which get in the way of your driving and needn’t be there. The sort of person they were supposed to be aiming at is a hands on fixer who wants a rugged, reliable, simple vehicle that is easy to maintain with minimum break downs that he can keep for decades. Whilst he obviously expects some maintenance and breakages as time goes on, he doesn’t want a vehicle that has to keep going back to the dealer for weeks at a time to fix some electronic gremlin! It’s fine having electronic things go wrong so some things stop working but the car should still be able to run. If it is not a critical issue then it should not make the vehicle undriveable!! What if such a thing goes wrong in an environment that could be life threatening such as a desert? A persons or peoples lives could be at risk for the sake of a stupid sensor going bad! And finally -the cost! This should be an affordable vehicle both in purchase and running costs, instead they are absolutely taking the piss, it is priced up with posh SUVs and parts are even more so. No! INEOS reneged on the promise of what they were going to deliver and instead seem to be angling for the luxury SUV market and hanging it all on it’s off road ability and technology thinking it will be in the bracket of the Mercedes G wagon! When will someone REALLY deliver a basic vehicle that is off road capable and affordable? Every manufacturer goes for luxury and complicated. The closest is still the Toyota 70 series but even they require a mortgage!!!!

    Love what you have done vehicle looks great. How much does it weight now with all this extras and fridge etc. looking to buy but tow a 3.5t van and would be worried about the gvm with those add ons. Also curious is you tow hitch etc blocking view to number plate.

      Hi Craig, John has mentioned that his Roof Rack is 60 kg unladen Plus Bull bar Winch Side runners Rear ladder Awning Etc. Etc Plus - Full tank of fuel Carrying extra fuel Carrying some water Carrying tools Etc. Etc Plus passengers and luggage… I think payload is about 800 kg for the 5 seater with diesel engine After taking into account a tow ball down weight of 350 kg There wouldn’t be too much / if any, left from 800 kg ? GVM is 3.5 t It would be quite easy to be exceeding this, which is illegal, and voiding insurance ! GCM is 7 t If u r towing 3.5 t regularly and or for long distance etc IMO, If u r at GVM AND GCM, this is not ideal / not the appropriate vehicle for this scenario… 🤷🏻‍♂️

      @cannyoutdoors Місяць тому

      I think I was at 3.18 fully loaded. The GVM is 3.55 so still a bit left. There is a mob in Qld. Expedition HQ doing a GVM upgrade to 3.80. Number plate is OK with the hitch.Thanks for watching and commenting, John. Forgot to mention this is without anything on the towball.

      @@cannyoutdoors Hi John Thanks for this extra info Based on above, u have 370 kg of available GVM I think u tow about 2 tonne ? So, if allowing for 200 kg of tow ball down weight, u have a margin of 170 kg. If u were to tow 3.5 t U then only have 20 kg of GVM left over That’s not much, so if towing 3.5 t, u would definitely need to be careful of not exceeding GVM & GCM Cheers. 👍

    Hiya John. A couple of things - I want to thank (blame?) you for helping confirm my decision to approach and acquire a Gren from SLRV, after watching your vid a few months back about the try drive offroad day. Absolutely love my Gren, and looking forward to a first trip out bush. Also, a question - where did you get the extended tow hitch from? Safe travels to the Bash!

      Glad to hear you love it ! Got my tow tongue from Allin Towers (allintowbars,com.au) they made it especially for the Grenadier as the receiver is very tight and most of the readily available tongues are just too tight. The will send it to you wherever you might be. If you are interested call them first and you should mention it is for the Grenny and mention that they made one for me so that they get the size right. I have no connection with them but it is a really well made thing. Cheers John

    About the lightbar, you said that it uses 26 watt of power and that is too much for the 25 Amp outlet. But that outlet can support 300 watt so there schould not be a problem or did you mean 26 amps for the lightbar?

    • @cannyoutdoors
      @cannyoutdoors Місяць тому

      Yes definitely meant 26amp. I think i put text on the video to correct that. Thanks for noticing and letting me know. Cheers John

    I am considering a demo saw rather than a chain saw , willl be trying it out in a couple of weeks . We have had the ineos for 6 months now but have not been able to go away as there has been very little rain since Janurary and we have no feed on our paddocks for our sheep and cows and have been hand feeding for 4 months . Our longest trip was 500k round trip to buy hay last weekend as there is no local hay available . When we pulled up at the farmers yard We pulled up behind an identical Grenadier ,same colour ,wheels bullbar ect., it had come about 150ks in the opposite direction ,. What are the odds ?
