DIY Noiseless Single Coil Pickups | Stratocaster | Quick Guide to no Hum or Buzz
I saw some videos on UA-cam with a dummy pickup in a stratocaster. I decided to try to do it. Here is a short tutorial on how I did it. Let me know in the comments if you've tried doing this too. I think it works fine. I finally don't have such a noisy strat. But it add color to sound. Sound will change.

BRO! So inspired. Just watched your DIY vid. I have this same lap steel. Im definitely going to be trying it.
Wow super nice. What tape?
Hi daynemin, it Maxell XL II 90 mins 🙂, Thank you!
@@PineHillSoundStudio May I plz ask what knowledge you have in recording input levels as I can see with dbx on? Thanks 📼😎
@@daynemin The levels were really low on this record. I think I could have pressed a little more. When recording to tape, it's not bad to push the levels a bit more, then a nice compression is created.
@@PineHillSoundStudio yep for sure. I've read and noticed dbx doesn't like to be pushed as hard. Always nice to hear people approach it. I think dbx is better for dynamic material.
@@daynemin We have to experiment with these machines. It is best to set Tascam for a specific situation. Sometimes DBX sounds good, sometimes it sounds bad. I learned not to turn it off. I've always recorded with DBX because I know when I max out a track there isn't as much noise.😊
Tried it today and while this ideas is genius, I’m wondering : doesn’t your saddle screw bend upwards ? Mine does 😢
Hi Bloodbarn, my saddle screw sits completly fine, Im wondering, where is a mistake.
@@PineHillSoundStudio I tried it with a cheap string through bridge, will try with a bridge similar to yours soon. Thanks !
very nice sounding, ik have also the HB slider, now i knowing how its can sound, tanhk you!
You are welcome!
Whoah. That sounds exquisite
@@JasonMcFly This machine sounds beautiful. Its worth, have one on studio.🙂
Ns 10 is so fast and snappy. I love it. Hs7 slow and wonky.
Gracias por no hablar! Se aprecian mucho los videos de este tipo
Thank you!
While the dummy pup will eliminate noise it will also alter the sound of the pickups. Tried it once myself years ago and I changed it back in less than a week.
Me too… it was completly silent, but sound was too dull. I changet it to ,,normal,, too.
I think this mod needs to also replace pots for 500k and/or adding a low-pass filter to be plausible, maybe I gonna give this a try someday.
Avantone VC12 is very thin, it has not the best transients. TLM102 has a hard sound, not my favourite. In this shootout I prefer 414, yes!
I've got an idea: when Clearmountain started mixing on NS-10's, the customer's probably buying the cheapest kinda cardboard speakers they'd find at their local thrift store, so the reason why the NS-10's are unforgiving is the fact that they're not from the supermarket back then!! :O Back then they were these glori(fied)ous Hi-Fi speakers everyone wanted, but no one could afford, so probably, Clearmountain's like: "AAA HAAA!!!" :P That's why a lot of people today are saying the NS-10's sound like crap, until they go to their local thrift store, pick up a pair of speakers from the mid 60's and go like: "oh Dear f Lord!! The NS-10's sound amazing compared to this shite!" So, the HS-7's might actually be better, yes! NOWADAYS!! But in ten years from now, ther's gonna be a new brand who's gonna outshine ATC's and they'll only cost you €400 a pair, hahaha.
So, this proves "monitors" are actually being just as hyped as Hi-Fi speakers. LOL!!!! "In the studio, you'd always use 'studio monitors' to be able to get the most accurate representation of your mix" and at the same time, all of these studio monitors and brands sound completely different!! In fact.... the same brand sounds different here!! I know these brands are trying to up their game always, but it just reminds me of: "the Line6 POD 2.0 sounds like the real deal" and 20 years later, it's shite all of a sudden and the Helix; etc are the big gamechangers!! Fucking hell, just get what sounds good to you and call it a day! Justin Bieber's voice recorded through a Sony C-800G's gonna sound horrible on phone speakers because of the sibbilance.... Alright and at the same time, no one cares!!! Don't get me wrong, the C-800G's AMAZING but yes, it does sound a bit sibilant and that's what all of the teenagers listening to Bieber are gonna hear and do they care?? NO!!! If you're an audiophile, get a dozen of speakers and listen to Pink Floyd on your ATC's and listen to Bieber on the "monitors" you bought at your local supermarket
Concept seems fine, but the setup may be hard to keep in tune. Interesting though. Thanks for presenting this video!!
Hs7 has more mid (kinda muddy but can be fixed simply) and bass but the other sounds more open and clearer in the highs but lacking some mid’s and some bass but overall still good.
I will try it when my pickups arrive, not sure why it works or could you just use an inductor
Hi, it works, but it will add color to sound.
If I were to make a few of these for a few different telecasters, would the fine tuning screw hole differ, depending on where a particular saddle sits?
NS-10 better sound, more clear and better transients, must have for mixing ♪♫
doe's the Tube effect the tone of the mic i mean if the mic to much brite or its harsh doe's different Tube make it smooth ??
just done on my home built lapsteel ... and IT WORKS 🙆. Thank you very much. I just done a double bender for C6 tuning as: C E G A->Ab C->D E Best regrads from Catalonia, and thanks again 🫂.
Thank you for your comment! Im very happy that it works for you! 🙏😊
awesome, thanks for absolutely nothing!
You are welcome😊
Lmao that’s what I’m saying. Pretty sure I blew my Mustang mini
teach me your ways
Chingon
It's not that NS-10s are "brighter", because they are pretty dark, warm, and flat compared to many modern studio monitors that can be brutally sensitive in HF response. Either way they sound correct with the CCR audio you played but I have no idea what settings you have for playback or the HS7s' HF response.
N I C E
Thank you🙏😊
Can you make a dual brnder with spoons? Or are they tto wide?
I don't think it would be comfortable to play with it. Because they would be too close to each other. 🙂
Is it at all risky putting the guitar in a hardshell case once the bender is installed?
Completed this mod in about an hour this afternoon, works perfectly. Thanks for the information provided. The spoon cost me 50p (UK); a little expensive, but it was from a charity shop and for a good cause!
There's no way this actually works right ?????
(brb about to deck out my guiitar with 6 fecking spoon handles they will call me 6 spoon mcgee)
great ! i'll try this s(p)oon too :-)
Great!
Thank you! :)
Trying to get that old good thang back with Valerie. I’ll keep my eyes out for her
Absolutely brilliant
Thank you! 😊🙏
Great! Is this a serving/soup spoon or a tea spoon? How long is after you cut it, before bending it? I just need to find a wider enough one, all my spoons got really thin towards the end 😂
Di sounds very plasticky like youre playing a barbie toy guitar
Nice to see a mic comparison without a 20 min preamble before - thanks for the simple, v useful vid!
Thank you! 😊
❤❤
Amazing! I'm sold
Thanks for the video! Do u think it would work out for classic guitar?
Hi! I think, it might work with classical guitar too. Thank you!
Makes a video, doesnt try it out. Idiot
Tex Mex até much more defined. Especialy in high ends
The Squier PU sounds thicker but less well-defined than the Tex Mex but this seems to be noticeable only in clean playing and it doesn't differ much if one is mostly playing rock with distortion.
Clever.👌🏻
Thank you!
Clever
I guess you could add this to 2 or 3 stringa if you use a skinny enough spoon handle eh?
And really nice song btw!
Brilliant! Sounds even better than the ridiculously priced benders from these companies.
Thank you!!!
Great Idea! Any verdict on how much this shortens the string life? I mean, Is the longevity enough to survive a live gig, keeping in mind that it's not used all the time(even sparingly). As one commentor said :" Well, that's my tomorrow sorted! " Thanks.
Hi Robert, I have the same strings on my lap steel maybe more than year? I play it not too much, but bended string holds well. 😊
Sounds beautiful.
Thank you!
I can't tell the difference , so many ugraded pickups in cheap guitars videos on youtube , would be interesting to hear if cheap pickups on expensive guitars made a huge difference ?
Fantastics microphones. Prefer the Flea 48 on your voice
I agree😊
Ns10's are not flat... BUT the amount of mids and lack of bass makes you hear the song tracks separated and clear, wich is good for mixing in a superficial way Like you dont gonna "feel" the bass or having an flat listening, but you can hear the overall song clearly, and if something is wrong u can tell immediately
