Trail Off
New Zealand
Приєднався 4 кві 2020
I'm Graeme. I decided to Trail Off.
This started as a hiking and outdoors channel filmed in New Zealand. Based on some pretty crazy success on tiktok with mystery stuff tied into the hiking, I'm going to focus on that for a bit.
My content will be unapologetically random, it's for me first after all, but I do hope you enjoy!
Hiking sets my mind free and I'm putting these videos out there to let you come along with me.

Beautiful Solo Day Hiking on Marchant Ridge in the Tararua Ranges, New Zealand
Переглядів 37310 місяців тому
#hiking #newzealand #alpine Nestled in the foothills of the Tararua Ranges in the south of New Zealand's North Island, Marchant Ridge can be a bit of a punisher and I've heard it called boring - but I really like it. Yes, it is hard, but at the same time, most things of merit are, right? Starting at the end of Kiwi Ranch Road, I climb through the forest and then up along and around Marchant Rid...
Solo Hiking The Tongariro Alpine Crossing | New Zealand
Переглядів 18911 місяців тому
#nz #tongariro #dayhike #hike #alpine The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is one of the greatest walks I've ever done, but was it the best? I don't know. It was certainly up there though. The Crossing is a 19.8km point to point hike traversing some steep and challenging alpine terrain in New Zealand's central plateau. Walking amidst mighty volcanoes made me feel a little bit like a Hobbit, a long way...
The Disappearance of Kaye Stewart in 2005 | New Zealand

#truecrime #newzealand #2005 This is the second video of what will be many videos about crime, mystery, abandoned places and really anything that interests me. About the victims and about the perpetrators of horrific acts. Kaye Stewart is gone, but what happened to her, who did it and why are mysteries that are likely to linger. It made me incredibly sad to make this video. To obtain footage I ...
Testing Topo Pursuit Trail Runners on Boulder Hill | 10km Silent Hike
Переглядів 12411 місяців тому
I'm excited to share my latest mini adventure with you - a 10km (mostly) silent hike up Boulder Hill in Wellington, New Zealand. I needed this, even if it was hard work. 👟 Topo Pursuit Trail Runners in Action: I took my brand new Topo Pursuit shoes for a spin on this hike. I bought them because @DarwinOnthetrail told me that I had to. I'm kidding of course. I needed new shoes but didn't want to...
Alone in a Wild and Empty River Valley in New Zealand on a Day Hike | An easy 21km
Переглядів 351Рік тому
Join me on an unforgettable journey to and around New Zealand's captivating Orongorongo River Valley! I tripped up probably 5 times on this walk. It was like the trail was out to get me. Nestled in the heart of the Remutaka Range, this wild, rocky paradise is a treasure trove of scenic beauty. This is the park that Kaye Stewart went missing in in 2005. Her disappearance is in my thoughts every ...

Hiking 16km Alone in the Orongorongo Valley, New Zealand
Good movie, kept me on my seat. Didnt expect what happened.
why is this movie nowhere?? I watched it long ago and now I can't find it anywhere literally.
Rest Easy beautiful angel. I remember this heartbreaking story, I see her little bro on FB...much love to the Cardno family
I was 8 when this tragic event unfolded..I can say I’m very disappointed at the fact this individual is still breathing, very surprised.enough about this time to recognise the cardno whanau an the beautiful little Carla. May peace keep coming to their whanau and Rest In Peace little angel.
she had to have stumbled onto someone up to no good
Ah the Barra Track! Every trampers quintessential rooty sidling upsy-downsy valley tramp!
I haven’t done it for ages to be fair. I should head into mitre flats. It’s an awesome part of the world.
I was the main witness to this case. Poor karla was crossing road in front of library on her bike walking with him she stopped in front of the car I was in & dropped her bag & bent down to pick it up , he waited for her and they carried on the foot path at to shop. Next day I seen police caravan at hall & it was like a light bulb going of. Photographic memory I told police I had seen them & identified the clothes he had on which police found a couple of weeks later. I done police Reina tent riding a bike from her place to takeaway bar & home again. We got times pretty well bang on. He plead guilty on the morning of court & police said main reason was evidence they had & mine was the biggest threat towards him. What a monster he is. I was 18 yrs old at the time. If I had known kala was in danger I would of attacked him bit she try to show me my stalling Middle of the road but I didn't click at the time. I think of karla often & still beat my self up about what I cud have done & what cud have been so different for karla. U ain't forgotten karla& I'm sorry. Luv yr friend phil
It’s really important that you don’t beat yourself up mate. You couldn’t have known. Your testimony helped put away a monster!
Thank you for remembering young Karla. I knew her to be a sweet, kindhearted young girl. She was helpful towards others and naturally smiled alot. Her murder was a debt to our society .I felt such pain for Kala and her Mum and brother.
Shame on those who saw her running for help and didnt step in to walk her home
😅Wayne bray 2008 timer case
Life in prison in NewZealand usually means 10 years 😤
I really appreciate your videos. So respectful.
I wonder if she will be found one day like Patricia Burt just was. I hope so.
A lot of the police who worked this case retired at its conclusion.
Just looked on Marketplace so many es335 like looking for a guitars in a haystack
I remember this tradgey from my childhood
This was around the corner from where I lived. She also went to the same high school as me. Truly awful crime.
The girl in case - the most naive and coward ever
I thought the same thing, I wanted to reach through that tv & knock some sense into her. She claimed he was charming, I would like to know what was so charming about him? I know it wasn’t his looks & it sure as hell was not his personal hygiene. He looked like a caveman who didn’t have a penny to his name
Karlas real dad is not unsafe. He loved Karla as much as all her family did. You cannot know the loss everyone felt and when you don't know them don't judge. For all the family my heartfelt sympathy. RIP Karla.
Liked your video :), how long did it take you to get to the tops?
Thanks!! It took ages on this walk with filming. It’s about 9 or 10km until you start getting above the trees. But a fairly tough slog for the second half. I’d say about 3 hours or so from memory.
The police went house to house including Dally's house.....if they had only gone inside and searched they would have found her alive. They knew from her family that he had an obsession with Karla and had been to her house to ask for her but was sent on his way.....he should have been the first suspect and his alibi checked and his home searched immediately.
Absolutely. And now to hear they’re letting him out to learn how to use the train and stuff before he’s paroled is horrible.
If I was her mum I would have got in that house to check for sure ,1 way or another.
Beautiful scenery. I miss NZ. First video I've watched of yours...the kiss at the end was kinda weird 😂 Anyway, it looked like a very enjoyable hike! Cheers!
Thank you! Honestly the kiss is just there to see if anyone watches to the end! Haha. Might have to clean it up a bit!
@@TrailOff Oh, ok. Lol. Tricky trickster. Thanks again.
A close friend of mine lived on Churton Cres, practically across the road from Karla's house when all this happened. She had walked passed that creepy guys house everyday to go to school. I had also walked passed his house as well. My friend and I were both 16 at the time. It was very distressing when we found out what had happened. So sad.
It’s really horrible to think about him in that house just plotting. I’m sorry for the impact it will have had on you.
Do we have an update on this monster in 2024?
He was declined parole in December 2023, and reportedly has cancer so hopefully he’s never released.
Everyone knows who killed Scott Guy...
Agreed. That’s why it’s so frustrating.
We love your work mate!
How the hell she's running & being chased in a shopping centre is beyond my comprehension. To think no one intervened is unforgivable
it's not an indoor shipping centre, more like a small collection of shops that all face outside. doesn't excuse it tho! but I live nearby and I just think his description was a bit misleading so wanted to clarify :)
Stayed there one night after working the wildfood festival. Highly recommend you dont stay there😂 place is spooky asf but where they have people stay is not the cleanest. Met some kind people who live there tho young and older.
Trail name please
That’s the walk above Brooklyn in Wellington that runs from the wind turbine to above Red Rocks. Theres a few tracks you can take, one is called the “Tip Track”.
*PromoSM*
i was 12 when this happened, remembered all the "new" stuff so to speak that was changing in NZ, as you said in opening credits
Yeah I was 6 and can remember a lot of the changes too. Shocking crime.
Amazing how those crimes happened and they were headlines for weeks on TV and in the Newspaper, unfortunately they are happening every other day and i think people are getting desensitized to it sadly@@TrailOff
Absolutely. It’s a desperate shame that these things aren’t at all uncommon these days.
Good advice on river crossings - especially when alone
Thanks. Yeah honestly you can never be too careful.
The reputation of the Marchant comes in part from the fact it was often an add-on to a Southern Crossing and lacking in the distant views of the open tops. Further, its difficulty was increased when it was moved off the crest of the ridge to the side, out of the Hutt water catchment. Free access was impeded at the bottom for a while. Good to see the gorse has largely reverted.
Yeah it would definitely be a much easier walk along the crest. And I can imagine at the end of a long walk it would be a frustrating slog at times.
Outstanding hike my friend, shots and your storytelling are amazing!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that.
I agree with your wife. She sounds like a smart lady 🤣 Also those cicadas are noisy buggers, huh?
She is smart. But she’s also a menace.
I really enjoyed this walk but me oh my, my hamstrings are tight afterwards. It’s a bit of a lumpy time.
Karla's father was convicted on another child's rape??? It beggars belief that this father could ever inflict the same pain on another child! Let alone with his then partner was complicent. I remember this and other crimes similar! I was a new mother at the time and could not imagine anything worse
I can’t get over that sparkle in the crater lakes 😍 Absolutely stunning!
Yeah it’s kind of like being on a different planet.
I absolutely loved this walk. It was a weird experience in some ways because I’m used to hiking (tramping, walking, shuffling, slipping) in remote areas either alone or with a friend (my Dad). But despite the crowds, I still really found this to be a magnificent walk.
2:33 Department of corrections or conservation?
I cannot believe that slipped through. You’re 100 percent correct.
I can’t get Kaye’s case out of my head. Every time I walk in Remutaka Forest Park I find myself wondering about her. I still enjoy the park. But it’s tarnished knowing that something happened to Kaye and we don’t know exactly what that was.
Same as me. I go hunting in the valley regularly and think about her every time. I think it’s highly likely the local farmer did it.
Have they ever charged anyone with this awful crime? It was such a long time ago I was sure they would have caught the guy by now. Sensing Murder did a feature on it with police involvement, it sounded so hopeful. Bless the family ❤
@@creationismflawed it was the doc guy bak the bastard!
@@creationismflawed was the name given by both psychics on sensing murder the same name as the local farmer?
Not sure sorry, but I’ve since spoken to some locals about it and everyone is relatively certain it was a local pig farmer who lives across the road.
Do we get a full length or ?
Such a lovely day for a hike 🚶♂️, sorry you were not a able to get to peak on private property 😀. Beautiful views of the hills and coastline ❤. Thanks for showing us around, sending you our support from England 🇬🇧 Simon and Beth 🛎🙋♥️
Wow 👌 such a beautiful 😍 walk through the trees 🌳 down to the dried up river valley 😀. Thank you for showing us around ❤, greetings from England 🇬🇧 Simon and Beth ❤❤❤
Thanks very much for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed!
It's been a while! No excuses, I've just been busy, lazy and otherwise occupied! I do have some really exciting plans for this channel going forward though. Plans that include walking. Mostly just walking.
Have you been there?
I've been to the area and into the caves etc, but never inside the hotel.
great video!
Thank you! It's a really nice area to walk in.
I rememeber this case . this horrid turd should never be let out
The hammer murder in Patumahoe.
I did this from Korokoro so a bit of a longer walk a few weeks back. It's a nice walk with great views at the Trig. One of the best walks in Wellington in my opinion. You have captured it pretty nicely!
Old plodder here - older than your dad - took me 12 hours in total so a long day and walked last couple of hours back in the dark; liked the Pouakai Circuit a little better for another long one dayer, but summit of Mt Taranaki was way better trip (and way harder) than either!
12 hours is a solid day! I'm exceptionally keen to do the Pouakai Circuit. Is there a direction you'd recommend doing it in?
@@TrailOff I did it anti-clockwise and would probably recommend that way as you get the steep up and down bits out the way first, and also good views of the mountain until the end when you just want to finish it! Took me a little less time than the Jumbo.
@@chrisj8764 thanks! That’s really helpful!
