Rising Phoenix Bronco
Приєднався 11 сер 2013
MY video channel devoted to the restoration of my 1968 Ford Bronco.
What started out as a conversion from carburetor to FiTech EFI has become a full blown restoration. I will update each step as it occurs with short videos.
About my Bronco:
1968 model year but is a November 67 build. Several items on the truck have turned out to be 67 parts, not 68. It is uncut with the original paint.
Purchased in Las Vegas in 1992. I am third owner. Gentlemen I bought from inherited from his uncle who lived in Riverside. He sold to me because his RV did not have the horsepower to pull the Bronco. Paid $4,000 cash. Only had 29K miles. I drove as a weekend driver. Replaced things that broke, no real upgrades. I was transferred to New Mexico and used as a daily driver for about a year. In 2005 I was transferred to Wisconsin (who did I piss off?). Rather than rust the Bronco out I took to my dad's house in Phoenix and parked it. There it sat for 10 years. Until now......

Early Bronco Carpet Hold Down Kit and Sill Plates
Finally installed all the carpeting as well as the Wild Horses Carpet Hold Down Kit #3435. Bonus installed the Scott Drake sill plates. Now that the sill plates are in I can’t imagine not having them. Looking good! Also mounted the Tom’s Fold and Tumble seat after the upholstery was redone to match with the front Mustang seats.

Stinger Roadkill Carpet Pad installed in an early Ford Bronco
Переглядів 93Місяць тому
Quick update on progress overall but mainly wanted to document my installation of Stinger Roadkill Carpet Pad. Product number RKCP12. Used two kits for the front cab area of the 1968 early Bronco. Are we calling these Gen 1 Broncos now?
Preparing 2011 Mustang seats to be installed in a early Bronco
Переглядів 502 місяці тому
Did the mock up of the seats to fit in my 1968 Bronco. The Mustang power seats need to be lifted 1/4 inch otherwise the mechanism will hit the Corbeau brackets. We also need to cut the rails just over an inch otherwise they will run into the bulkhead.
Early Bronco drive shafts and engine bay finishing touches
Переглядів 792 місяці тому
This week the rear driveshaft was mounted. Not easy when you have the wrong output yoke. Oops. Also finished up most of the engine bay wiring. Heck we even have a battery. Still no fan shroud. Arrgh. Next week should be a big week with seat, carpet, and lord willing an engineer that is running. Stay tuned.

Bronco Dana 20 Dress Up Kit
Переглядів 9113 роки тому
I'm back! Sorry for the hiatus but had a little encounter with some pesky tumors in my right kidney. Needless to say cancer kind of messes up your life plans. Doing better and in remission, so back to working on the Classic Bronco. Rebuilt the Dana 20 from my 1968 but it just didn't have that wow factor. It does now. Put on the Wild Horses Dana 20 Dress Up Kit which I paid for 2 years ago.... w...
DEI Floor & Tunnel Shield 2 - Installation and review in a classic Bronco
Переглядів 4,1 тис.5 років тому
To keep the interior cooler and maybe quieter I installed the DEI Floor & Tunnel Shield 2. Sorry this is such a long video. Thought about breaking it into several videos such as unboxing, design layout and final installation. Let me know if I made a bad decision with this one. I bought the largest one they make and it barely was sufficient. www.amazon.com/Design-Engineering-050501-Tunnel-Shield...
Lizardskin Final Review after top coat and lessons learned
Переглядів 29 тис.6 років тому
Hi Bronco Fanatics! This video shows you the final results achieved with LizardSkin Sound and Temperature Control. In addition I put 3 coats of body color on top. You could use the LizardSkin Top Coat spray but I chose to use the stock color Peacock Blue. Lessons learned? Use a good automotive tape. I used 3M. a.co/d/2blPwJn Also when you fill in your bolt holes before applying LizardSkin use a...
Lizardskin Thermal Ceramic Insulation Application

Well the title is a mouthful but it's says it all. In this video I apply the second part of the Lizardskin package, the thermal coat. Technically this is coat number 5 and 6. First there was two coats primer. Then two coats sound control and now two coats thermal insulation. I think it turned out pretty awesome. Stay tuned for the final video in this series. The top coat application which in my...
LizardSkin Sound Application on Bronco
Переглядів 8 тис.6 років тому
This video was shot when I did the Lizardskin Sound Control application on the 1968 Ford Bronco. I think it turned out great. Key application points to remember: 1. Make sure your air supply is cool and dry (per Lizardskin). From my air compressor to the in-line dryer is more than 100 feet. The air has to be cool and dry otherwise you can ruin the Lizardskin. 2. Use the thumb test to determine ...
LizardSkin Prep on the Bronco
Переглядів 8826 років тому
Preparing the newly painted tub for LizardSkin treatment. Spoke with the factory representatives and got the instructions straight from their field rep. Big take away is removing all oil residue. They have seen LizardSkin not adhere to panels in the exact shape of a mans hand caused by the oily residue of a sweaty palm. Prep with wiping down with solvent and wearing fresh latex gloves is the na...

Transmission linkage?
@@artsyo4286 Bought the Lokar from Wild Horses #2945 because I have the 4R70W. Had to get a different lever because Lokar wants you to build theirs into the tranny. Bought a lever from Auto Zone which bolted on with no problem.
Great to see you working on your Bronco again! If you need driveshafts Tom woods is where I purchased mine.
I’m sorry if if this is a silly question, but is it possible to install this or any sort of heat shield while the motor is still in my Bronco? Thank you!
Hit those rusty grooves with a brass wire wheel. It will make fast work and won't hurt the metal.
80ml is 4.8 inches...
nice is this single stage blue paint over lizard skin or base coat clear coat ?
So its been about 5 years how are you liking the Lizard Skin liner? Worth the time and effort? Would you do it over again?
So rinse with water? I tried that and dried it but it still FLASH rusted by morning. What now?
A tip; immediately start peeling the tape right after the final coat of LZ.
Sorry, just noticed these are real old posts! I’m stuck on the vent line routing!
Did u just cap all those other tank vent lines?
Seam seal before spraying?
Yes.
I've used lizard skin (sound) for many parts of my project. Best advice I can pass along is DO NOT use blue painters tape, it's a mess to get off, use 3m yellow painters tape or their green bodywork tape. Ive left the tape on thru the first coat, let it cure, and when I spray the 2nd coat as soon as it's sprayed ,start removing your masking tape. Came right off alot easier because it's still wet and softens the tape up a little.
How has this held up?
Should have wire wheeled the floor board first...then applied OSPHO.
Maybe silicon plugs for powder coating, drinking straws, and coffee stirrers will work well to keep the holes open.
Where are you my friend? Looking forward to more of your vids. Hope you're good.
I think for all those chunks of rust like you were hitting with the putty knife and wire wheel I would have hit with the wire wheel or a flap disk before the osfo
Agreed. I just wanted to test the Ospho in real world application to see how far it would penetrate. I ended up sand blasting rust away before hitting with primer.
How is the product holding up ?
Love the make it easier to pour comment!! Great video Thanks!!
u should care what other people say. they are all jealous Aholes
Hey are you ok ? Love the bronco and are looking forward to seeing what comes next.
How is the durability changes after painting the LS What kind of paint did you use? Thx
wonder if a combination would work better wd40 then grease then wet paper or bread wad. Problem with just bread or paper is having to dig it all out afterward as it gets packed in there pretty harshly.
Will this product work on any car ?
Yes my brother put it on his 1956 Thunderbird. Just make sure the surface is clean and stable (no rust or dirt).
Your tip for using aluminum foil for making templates was absolutely perfect. Worked like a charm!
Did you mean 8 mils
Supposed to do 20mils per coat, and they say to do 2 coats. So 40mils for the sound deadening total, and if you're spraying the heat barrier, that's 2 coats of 20mils each. That would total 80mils when using both products. After doing the sound deadening ,my whole shop sounded different and the radio sounds better. It's like I dragged a big area rug into a tiled bathroom.
Ospho is phosphoric acid.
Did you paint and clear coat the paint? Or is that just top coat with no sealant?
I sprayed it with the same body paint the Bronco came with in 1968. It is a single stage enamel. No top coat. No sealant. Most is covered with carpet, etc. what is visible looks just a good as the day I painted. No degradation so far. ;)
@@risingphoenixbronco5328 thanks for the reply and hell of a job you guys did !
Hope you're able to help. It's a job I'm planning to do for my firewall soon.
Thanks for reading my post. That was prompt to answer my previous question. See below. Thanks
I’m curious as what topcoat you used
I used a single stage auto paint the same color as the body. You can see the actual paint used in my other video "Ospho Put to the Test - Paint Plans".
@@risingphoenixbronco5328 Thank you so much for the info sir. I just wasn’t sure if you use some kind of clearcoat topper with your paint or some kind of epoxy
How easy was the material to overlap with other pieces and stick down? Did you overlap the pieces or butt them up to one another? If you overlapped pieces, how much overlap would you recommend to have them stick ok?
You did a top job there, most people would just do it like a multiple piece puzzle.
What are your long-term reviews how's that ospho holding up?
Everything I treated is still solid. All treated areas were primed and painted or primed/Lizardskin/painted and nothing has flaked, cracked or come apart (delaminated). Would use again.
@@risingphoenixbronco5328 ok, thank you.
Looks great! I have been trying to get to mine. I have had all the parts for two years. I am hoping this year!
Yes tool a two year break myself. Fortunately the cancer is under control so I can get her running. Good luck!
And when using a tranny jack chain that sucker down good and tight
Agree. In hindsight a short piece of chain on each side holding the transmission to the transmission jack so it couldn’t rotate would have been the right and safer process.
I remove the cross member disconnect the linkage then unbolt and remove transfer case then remove the transmission disconnect cluth fork remove starter then remove the bell housing
You poor guy!
“Didn’t protect the AMC Pacer” Seriously? I’ll have you for this!
Did you use primer on the van before spraying the Lizard skin on and if so what primer did you use and why did you choose it? I was going to use Por15 but read some bad reviews and that it isn't the best if you plan on topcoating, which I plan on using Lizard Skin. TIA
I used a 2 part primer. The actual can and type are covered in the Video I did on Ospho and Painting plans. I did little research on it and just trusted the recomendation of the paint supply shop. I did not use Por15 at all. I used Ospho for what little rust I had. I felt converting it with Ospho and primering it was better than encapsulating is with Por15. ua-cam.com/video/a-8Bp0nIi_4/v-deo.html

I wonder about using that tape with the hot wire in it that they us for bed liner
The instructions read "Clean treated surface with a solvent before painting."
Dash turned out great!
I am going to use this inside my 1969 plymouth GTX. Good product and much less than dynamat sound deadner.
can you put Ospho in a hand sprayer to spray on the underside of truck bed or is that a bad idea? because it will eat threw plastic? yes that's a bad idea! Okay I answered my own question? thanks self! sounds like some wishful thinking to me!
Comes in plastic bottle so shouldn’t be a problem. May eat out the spraying mechanism over time since it is an acid. Just be careful with the spray at you don’t want it getting everywhere or breathing it.
Wow! So amazed and impressed. Great vid. Thank
Glad your back. Hopefully you can stay healthy. Thanks for sharing, I’ll be watching.
Wow, impressed as well. I like your layout too, thanks for sharing.
Dash is already finished but not installed. Should be posting that video within a week. (editing takes too long). Thanks for the feedback.
@@risingphoenixbronco5328 Looking forward to it,
Nice piece! I bought one from them last year. It did take awhile to get but that's fine. I did have to do some minor trimming on my bronco to get the dash to seat properly. Glad to see your back working on your bronco.
