This is the home of all things alt-football.
After 30 years as a TV sports reporter & anchor, I left the business but I'm still pursuing my passion for football right here. I fell in love with pro football as a teenager and loved it all, from the National Football League of the 1980s to the World League of American Football in the 1990s to the original XFL of 2001.
I started diving into pro football origins in the 90s & continue to enjoy the history of alt-football, whether it's WLAF, XFL, AAF, USFL, UFL or even some you've never heard of.
I'm an avid fan of all things alt-football. That's why I started up this channel...to share that interest with people who want to learn or want to remember the past while we celebrate the current forms of alt-football.

I think it's just Daryl Johnston. He's the one who has a problem with the UFL period.
How so?
@@johnlewissports He's had some kind of issues with spring football that I've heard about. It's like he doesn't want spring football to happen.
I can’t see how that would be the case given he was a GM in the AAF and front office in the USFL and now the UFL.
@@johnlewissports Oh..... Alright, understood. I agree with you.
@markgross8712 not saying anyone is right or wrong and there are a lot of people who have had their issues with him.
This is why the team expansion needs to happen. Because there are a lot of of players who wants to play in the UFL, and a lot of players leave the UFL to go to the NFL. This is why the UFL needs to improve with more teams.
@@markgross8712 there’s no doubt there’s plenty of talent. Here’s to hoping the UFL is financially secure enough after 2025 to at least add a couple of teams.
I can't wait until the expansions happens. We need the green teams back, and we need some black teams, purple teams, and a certain orange team back.
@@markgross8712 there’s a LOT of fans wanting that certain orange team back!
You know what needs to happen now? Stone Cold Steve Austin should come to work in the UFL and help The Rock with all the loose ends and issues that's been going on in the league. Mainly the expansion. The Rock could really use a lot of help from ones like Stone Cold, Rikishi, Booker T, The Undertaker, and John Cena.

1. Nashville Maniax 😵💫🌀🟢🩵🔵♥️ 2. San Francisco Demons 😈⚫🔴🟡⚪ 3. Oklahoma City Outlaws 🤠🐐🟡⚪🔴⚫ These are 3 teams that I would like to see revived in the UFL along with other teams that we want back to the UFL from this video.

All I'm trying to do is help the UFL improve as they asked us to.... All we want now is more teams in the UFL.
@@markgross8712 hoping this year is successful enough for that to happen!
Ok, so now that we know that the first season of the UFL was a success why isn't the league going to get the expansion?.... And that's another team that should be revived in the UFL for New York. As the New York Sentinels.
@@markgross8712 I like it!
I believe the Vipers should have a home field somewhere in Atlanta. As I've been saying for the longest time now, the Vipers team needs to locate to Atlanta.... The Atlanta Vipers would be a good name for the team, and one change of color. 🐍⚫🟢⚪
@@markgross8712 it’s definitely NOT Vegas!

According to 3 Downnation, PJ Walker signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL, just the other day. Walkers' skill set is better suited for the CFL game than the NFL/UFL game

So much potential there!
Baltimore Stallions CFL Grey Cup Champions. Cleveland might have a problem with "Guardians". Yes to Oakland and San Diego.
I like it! I think the Orlando and Cleveland Guardians co-existed once, so I think they could again.
My personal picks for teams that the UFL should bring back 1. Philadelphia Stars (and actually play in Philadelphia instead of Detroit) 2. Orlando Guardians 3. Jersey Generals 4. LA Wildcats 5. Oakland Invaders 6. Seattle Sea Dragons 7. Tampa Bay Bandits
@@rapiddiamonds3248 I like these. Seems like for tradition sake, there should be a Philadelphia Stars team. I think almost everyone agrees on Seattle too!
The UFL should bring back the Maniacs in Nashville. That way they'd be the Nashville Maniacs. The Enforcers team should now be located in Baltimore so that they'd be the Baltimore Enforcers.

@@rangersking6699 I report, you decide 😂
The three key ingredients for any business to be successful are location , location, and location ie, you can't sell snowmobiles in Alabama. To that end the keys to a successful sports league is stability, stability, and stability. I applaud the UFL for their slow and methodical approach towards building this league. Had that approach been implemented in the 1980's the USFL ( my Stallions) would in all probability be celebrating their 43rd year of existence. So, in that spirit, let's all get behind this league and make it the success we all hope it can be . Giddy up , and go Stallions.
@@gregorycrawford5105 all agreed. Big year for the UFL and I hope this is the start of the something!
John, are you planning a podcast regarding the Oakland A's situation? I'd be interested in your thoughts. As lifelong Expos fans, we understand more than anyone in baseball, if I may be so bold. There is a Netflix series about the Expos coming up - painful, even after twenty years. I attended the last series in the Olympic Stadium in 2004. The Coliseum scene yesterday brought all the memories back for me. The hope of Spring Training, no matter how poor a season that just ended, is always there - we think. For A's fans, the temporary move (?) to Sacramento is different - proximity, media market, etc. - but I wonder how many fans will tag along. For me, I left MLB for fifteen years, returning to watch the Nationals with my buddy throughout their amazing 2019 season. Then, the pandemic hit, and I wasn't interested in the ridiculousness that followed with the fishbowl "championship" the Dodgers claimed as legitimately equal to previous World Series titles. The situation in Oakland has incrementally moved me toward MLS apathy, again. Any insights specifically about that situation or in the broader picture? Cheers.
I'm not a baseball guy, just football. But I'm sure there's plenty out there about it!
@@johnlewissports Understand!
Good stud John! Is CJ Johnson returning for Houston?
I have not heard anything to the contrary. The only announcements so far from Houston was thankfully they're leaving Rice Stadium.
@@johnlewissports Right. No disrespect to Johnson, but I really think that they ought to look for a new coach!
@@gridiron_coasters hard to disagree from what we saw this past season.
Good stuff as always, John.
Thank you, Scott! I appreciate that, especially from a longtime "friend of the show"
Good morning. I enjoyed the UFL product last year. I think they are stabilizing the league and thus giving it credibility. Expansion will certainly follow, but the calls to add lots of teams immediately didn't make sense to me. The attendance figures are the most concerning, to me. Even with decent or acceptable TV ratings, I wonder about the financial impact of opening those big stadiums with such little in-person revenue. Small crowds also fuel concerns that the league isn't sustainable. Lastly, keeping the teams in their markets is crucial to the perception of sustainability. Folding and/or moving teams keeps fans from investing time and money, not just in the affected markets.
I think this year will be huge for the UFL to find its footing. As Johnston said in the video, the football is "propped up" and now they can focus on some of the other things in the off-season.
@@johnlewissports Hope so.
The list, Las Vegas Gamblers, Denver Gold, San Jose Sabercats(going from arena football to outdoor) Seattle Sea Dragons, Arizona Wranglers , Oklahoma Outlaws
@@Barbariandisks good ones! I like that Sabercats idea. I believe the parent company actually did re-up the copyright on Denver Gold. Would love to see that one back too.

And lastly, stop using Boomer advertising tactics and start leveraging Gen Z and social media. REAL SIMPLE. Move the Renegades to FRISCO and play in DALLS FC stadium. Not the old Rangers stadium that sit empty af
Agree on the stadium part of it. Ford Field is NOT working. Some of the football starved cities that are left out of the NFL (i.e. St. Louis) can definitely work. As far as marketing goes, there's no doubt the league can use a younger fanbase, but the tried and true "boomer" stuff can also draw the demo that loves pro football AND has disposable income.
@johnlewissports true. Didn't consider the extra income part

The whole league nothing but Stallions and Renegades. LFG!
Like Omaha nighthawks
I still think spring football would work there.
The real question is. Can FOX afford to add more teams for expansion? I think not. FOX is losing money on their spring football endeavour. FOX should change it up because their handling of the UFL isn't working. The UFL won't last beyond 2026. By "change", I mean convert to 3 Down Football and merge three UFL teams with the CFL. Merging with the CFL ensures the survival of the UFL
Not gonna lie…you had me in the first half.
Sorry , Americans are not interested in the nuances of CFL football. Check me , I may be off a bit , but , CFL games only garner about 400k views per game. A merger between the CFL and UFL would only be palatable to the much larger US tv audience under NFL type rules. I would be in favor of a merger under those rules or some variation there of. I think the 2 leagues should re-examine the possibility of some sort of collaboration.
@@gregorycrawford5105 Not true. Americans watch CFL because CBS SN picked up additional games for the recent Labour Day Classic Weekend. Americans access CFL+ to watch CFL games. For a country of 35 million, 400,000 for a CFL game is good. The UFL on the other hand getting 500,000 with a population of 380 million is not that great. It's CFL/3 Down Football rules or not. Every spring football league has operated under 4 down rules and have failed each time. It's time to think outside the box. The CFL only needs one to three US teams to expand/merge to go international which the NFL has tried and will never go international no matter how games it plays overseas
@@davidbuswa9425 Hi David , thanks for the enlightened feedback. I think we are pretty much on the same page with regards to a need to move forward in the quest for a unified spring football association of some sort. The devil is in WHAT form that league should take ? CFL rules or US rules? I think think that issue has been settled by the players themselves. ALL players Canadian or American with the ability to play on a high level are going to opt for football that is played on par with the NFL rules. Hence, if we want players to attract fans we've got to cater to their needs. I'm well aware of the long history of the CFL , but , for the sake of survival and growth sometimes we may need to be open to change. I'm interested in your feedback. Thank you.

The longer the UFL survives the more college talent has to get into the UFL when they don't have NFL spots
Agreed. I think players are seeing the opportunities the UFL players had this year in the NFL so maybe the demand will be there, at least from a player perspective.
