Dutchman Explanation - Felling
Переглядів 1,1 тис.14 днів тому
Dutchman explained. (For Professional Purposes Only) in the first part I explain how a dutchman works, and what it achieves. in the second clip I show it in action. Note that the tree I showed during the fall was smaller, but the technique usage is the same. Also realize these are softwood, this will differ or not work at all depending on the tree species. #mitchzenobitrees #treework #treeservi...

    Your job looks super fun. I just recently got into chainsaws and was surprised at how much fun I have cutting trees and tinkering with my saws. I see a lot of videos like this and i was wondering why all those trees are getting cut down ? Is it for lumber or is it forest maintenance? Probably a stupid question but I am from south Texas and I don't know of any jobs like this in my parts. Great video by the way !!!

    • @mitchzenobitrees

      Saws are fun. I'm happy to have a job that I get to run one every day. All the trees cut will go to the mills for lumber. These are being harvested off of Forest Service and DNR lands. Anything that's clear cut will be replanted. This area is on its 3rd harvest.

    Hey Mitch, just curious what you run for a chain length in drivers? I want to give this bar a try in .325 and it calls for 98 drive links and other bars I already have call for 104. Is there a happy medium to run a certain length chain on both bars? Thanks alot

    • @mitchzenobitrees
      @mitchzenobitrees 4 дні тому

      So with this bar, 98 is going to be it's number to run on both Stihl and Husqvarna saws. Unfortunately you can't run a universal length to have one set of chains for all the bars. My Tsumura conversion is 104 and if I tried to go shorter it wouldn't fit.

    I know you mentioned cutting upward with the tip to avoid kickback, would it be possible to saw downwards with the spot right behind the tip and then move the tip into the wood to avoid kickback? (I hope that makes sense, idk the anatomy of a saw to specify what I mean)

  • @nervfps
    @nervfps 12 днів тому

    Hey Mitch, just to clarify, you're cutting the dutchman in when you make your first face cut? You're drifting your bar through the wood at that point, rather than cutting the dutchman as you begin your backcut? Hope that makes sense, great vid!

    • @nervfps
      @nervfps 12 днів тому

      Also to follow up, would this be for when a tree is leaning heavily enough that the tree won't go in the direction of your face cut? For example in this clip, what would've happened if you had just aimed your face cut more towards where you wanted the tree to eventually end up instead of using a dutchman? I'm trying to learn why to use X vs Y in each situation. Thanks again!
